Spine tingling stuff!

There's 20 years worth of oil left in the North Sea. (That has been discovered and that we have the technology to extract at an acceptable cost.) That figure will probably go up as technology improves and the price of oil goes up.

That's according to a geophysicist friend who works for a drilling company.

fartingfran · 06/05/2011 23:12

I'm not worried about oil running out. By the time that happens Eck'll have got us so shit-hot at renewables we'll be able to live off the power we're selling to England Grin

OP posts:
MollysChamber · 06/05/2011 23:13

Aye with the wind turbines that dinna go round?

K999 · 06/05/2011 23:14

It's a shame Iain Gray is stepping down. SNP could have asked him to keep talking and we could have all lived off the huge amount of hot air he omits...Grin

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:15

i think a lot will change re oil anyway... prices will go up as it becomes harder to extract, so the value will remain stable iykwim, although not everyone will be able to afford to waste it. meanwhile, we are a country with plenty of wind and waves.

trixymalixy · 06/05/2011 23:19

I think you're right Aitch. 20 years is no time at all though.

MollysChamber · 06/05/2011 23:20

We are. But there is a shit load of work to be done on wave and wind power.

I do think that Iggle Piggle DC has royally fucked us over with his oil company tax. They can afford to pay, obviously, but they won't. They'll go elsewhere. And it's Scots who will lose their jobs.

cedarcottage · 06/05/2011 23:21

twoifbysea- please don't include me in any comments about ignorance. It's time we all had a long hard look at what is fair. And silly comments like yours just make it impossible to have rational debate, but then, why am I surpirsed? you've got a cushy number. And don't degrade your argument by saying childish things like ' we're worth 000s more than you'. These things need to be discussed, especially when we're faced with the nightmare that your countrymen left behind. Smile

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:22

see if we did go for independence, btw, what would happen to the banks, particularly RBS? i take it they would still be owned by the uk taxpayer, but who would they be, then?

trixymalixy · 06/05/2011 23:22

Although the way things are going water may become our most valuable resource.

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:23

sucked in, cedarcottage... Grin aren't you tired of hearing DC say that? as if there wasn't, ya know... a global financial crisis?

K999 · 06/05/2011 23:24

What men left what nightmare behind? Confused

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:25

cedar thinks the big scottish boys did it and ran away...

trixymalixy · 06/05/2011 23:25

I think they might have to split things like that somehow Aitch with a % of shares owned by the Scottish and UK(?) governments. The whole process will be a total nightmare of complexity.

cedarcottage · 06/05/2011 23:29

I think that it is a very sad day when MN decides that anything that may upset the Scottish can not be printed. iwrote nothing insulting, indeed mine were all facts, not spurious anti-Tory war-mongering, which is what seems to be mostly on this thread. I am anti-no-one, I just want fairness for all. We should all strive for that. MN for shame.

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:30

then stop being silly, cedarcottage, and blaming what you consider to be the failings of a westminster parliament on where the incumbents were born. for shame, etc.

expatinscotland · 06/05/2011 23:31

cedar, it's time your comedic talent were recognised, preferably someplace else.

MollysChamber · 06/05/2011 23:32

Spurious anti-Tory war-mongering? Where's that then??

K999 · 06/05/2011 23:32

Well, I think the result today was a vote for fairness....

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:33
K999 · 06/05/2011 23:34

If Cedars looking for a new job, I hear Scottish Labour are looking for a new idiot leader....

expatinscotland · 06/05/2011 23:35

Rangers FC are looking for some new people, too.

Hear hear aitch!

Although I do think anyone is entitled to give their opinion on this thread.

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:39

och yes, trixy, but look at the trolling shite that they are coming out with. let's have a discussion by all means, but leave the patronising insults out of it.
