I do hope it isn't on the NHS. It is exactly the sort of elective surgery which should certainly be private. That said, he is a Labour leader - squandering other people's hard earned tax money without a second thought should come naturally to him.

Priorities have to be set. If it is purely for "cosmetic" reasons (as in the case of Red Ed) then it should not go ahead, even for children. If it is the difference between being able to talk and not being able to talk, then of course it should go ahead - but no, operations just to make people sound/look/smell better should not be provided on the NHS.

I agree with you about Cameron though. His pandering to the left on so many issues, have dented him. He should have detached us from the European Court of Human Rights, vetoed all EU budget increases, and not given hundreds of millions of aid money to be funnelled off by Pakistani extremists. He wants to be liked by the Notting Hill Guardian set for some unknown reason, instead of being respected by the public.

None of that changes the fact that Red Ed is a loser though. His nose job won't change that either.

It might be disgusting, but it is true. Focus group after focus group of voters say that his voice puts them off.

ChocolateCoveredlissielou Fixing the economy helps everyone. Quangocrats, benefit scroungers and vested interests will squeal. I am not hugely bothered - the cuts are very minor, merely taking public spending back to 2007 levels or so. If anything, they should be far deeper and faster - it is outrageous that people will still be able to get £400 a week in housing benefit.

It is a bit of a dilemma for Ed. If he's goes private then he's validating private health as an option. Plus, he's emphasising his relative wealth and ability to pay for something that most of us would have to go without.....

I don't think it would be an issue. The Islington set is perfectly happy with cognitive dissonance.

A good example is the Guardian. It rants and raves against perfectly legal and tax avoidance, even though the Guardian Media Group itself avoids stupendous amounts of tax through an intricate network shady Cayman Island companies.

My advice to Ed M would be to go private and make it very publicly known that the reason he chose to do so was because the op was decided upon out of 'vanity'; he DIDN'T want to be a burden on the NHS in this case, being as his adenoid problem wasn't a serious issue, only bothersome as he needs a good voice for all that speaking out in public.

I've found it odd, ever since I first heard his voice, by how very very much like Tony Blair he sounds; does anyone else think so, and if so, why would that be?

Loving the way 'Red' Ed is now accepted description of a man who believes cuts are 'necessary' if done a bit slower. Tax the banks! Does he plan to repeal anti-trade union legislation? But anyway...the Labour leadership contest left a clear stage for weasel Gideon Osborne and his Eton pals to spread the debt/deficit "the sky is falling" nonsense for weeks on end. Hopefully Ed will have his NHS operation (since we don't have means tested Poor Laws yet, LFN) when Cameron et al are taking their faux pauvre camping hols in Dorset so they won't be selling the beach from under our arses to make up for their epic fail with the forests while Ed's in hossy. Yes, the voice is distracting, but mainly because it expresses Tory-lite nonsense. We pay your wages, Miliband. Represent us!

DarthNiqabi I am merely stating facts. For someone who follows politics quite closely, like me, his voice isn't the issue - his ridiculous pseudo-communist musings are. However, floating voters won't even give him the time of day - not while he looks, sounds and acts like a dweeb instead of a potential Prime Minister.

Basically, everything he does reinforces the student politician image. He hasn't made a single policy choice which goes beyond his far-left comfort zone.
