I do hope it isn't on the NHS. It is exactly the sort of elective surgery which should certainly be private. That said, he is a Labour leader - squandering other people's hard earned tax money without a second thought should come naturally to him.

Agree with Darth.

aliceliddell · 22/04/2011 13:46

Liking 'far Left' LFN. Suppose he is if you start at Genghis Khan.

jackstarb · 22/04/2011 13:55

To be fair - I don't think LFN is suggesting that people with "speech impairments" [to quote Darth] shouldn't go into politics.

My uderstanding was that is Ed M's supporters who suggested the op.

longfingernails · 22/04/2011 13:58

Of course I'm not suggesting that people with speech impediments should be barred from politics.

Anyway, the story comes from the Mirror.

To be fair to Ed tho, if his adenoids are so bad that they affect the way he speaks he probably should get them done on the NHS.

I had constant trouble with mine as a kid, e.g. recurring sinus infections, constant sore throat because I only breathed with my mouth, etc. So i got them taken out. However, my voice had always sounded perfectly normal so I reckon Ed's probably cause him even more probs than mine do

(stupid things have grown back tho, grr.)

Ah Darth, you will surely combust under the weight of your smugness.

Lefties hate it if anyone 'judges'.
It throws them into a panic about being found lacking. If we all stay touchy feely and accepting, noone notices how execrable everything is. That's the general gist of things.

moondog · 22/04/2011 18:44

Oh and I love the way the acolytes forget that Ed had possibly the mo st privileged upbringing you can imagine and now leads a very comfortable life.
He's not down with the feral yoof on the estate (wouldn't last two minutes if he was, mind).

ohmyfucksy · 22/04/2011 18:45

Probably a wise move politically. His voice does sound a little different and most people take against 'different'.

I think if it's a medical need (adenoids often can be) he should get it done on the NHS, if not go private.

I see the sparks...

bibbitybobbityhat · 22/04/2011 18:57

What a classy thread title. It so makes me think I want to vote Tory.

TheCrackFox · 22/04/2011 18:59

He should get them done - it must be very uncomfortable. However, he can join the back of the waiting list and wait his turn.

earthworm · 23/04/2011 10:16

He is having the op at the end of July, on the NHS, according to The Times this morning.

Apparently it is to correct a twisted septum as he suffers from sleep apnoea (and so is fair enough really).

colditz · 23/04/2011 10:19

Sleep apnoea can be very very dangerous. He should have it done, and if he can have it done on the NHS then he should!

longfingernails · 23/04/2011 10:59

The chronology of how the story changed from the Mirror version is most interesting. His spinners evidently briefed the Mirror that it was for electoral reasons, before they realised the potential pitfalls.

If it really is for a genuinely medical reason, then I wish him well (medically, not politically, of course). I have my suspicions though...

Hmmm, anybody who chooses to slag 'Red Ed' (puh-lease....) hear the clip of that utter cnt Gideon Osbourne prior to his voice coaching?? My my. No? How convenient. Shame he has a better voice now but still talks sht.

I love the politics message boards. Makes me feel incredibly self-righteous and spectacularly intelligent, complacent in my lefty smugness.

pats self on head for having a moral compass

BecauseImWoeufIt · 24/04/2011 22:10

He has a deviated septum, which causes sleep apnoea. How is that not a reason for NHS treatment?

I usually ignore your posts, LFN, but this one was just too unpleasant.

SpringHeeledJack · 24/04/2011 22:12

I would do Ed, adenoids or no

annaquangel · 24/04/2011 22:12

I'm having a naive question day today. Why do you call G Osborne Gideon, please? TIA.

SpringHeeledJack · 24/04/2011 22:24

Gideon's his real/first name, iirc

I think his people reckoned he'd sound more appealing/less posh as George

as if

claig · 24/04/2011 22:24

anna, I think Gideon is one of his middle names. I think its use has become widespread to have a go at him because it sounds posh.

ohmyfucksy · 24/04/2011 22:26

Osbourne apparently changed it from Gideon (his first name) to George (his middle name) when he was a lot younger, i.e before politics - not surprising as it is a daft name.

SpringHeeledJack · 24/04/2011 22:26

ooh x posts, claig

you're right- have googled and it's his second name

annaquangel · 24/04/2011 22:27

Isn't it pretty racist to call him Gideon then?
