Join the boycott.

Sorry that didn't make a whole lot of sense Wink

Not conspiracy theories, rather the logic of boycotting the census because 1 of the companies involved is involved in arms dealing conveniently forgetting about everything they do. [skulks off to get a Wine)

poorbuthappy · 01/03/2011 20:15

I'm not going to try again cos for some reason I can't seem to form a sentence tonight.

Ignore the 2 posts above, sorry guys.
OP, hope you have a nice dinner and eventually come up with a good reason for not filling in the census.

Join the boycott.

winstonsmith Tue 01-Mar-11 18:32:56
....my intention in starting this thread was not to convince anyone to boycott

Grin make your mind up dearie!

winstonsmith · 01/03/2011 23:44

Hatti there's a difference between an INVITATION to join the boycott (as in the original post) and convincing someone to. i hope i don't find you on my doorstep asking why i didn't fill in the census with your muddled people skills. you might get a punch on the nose.......dearie.

it's sure been an eye opener though and has thoroughly put me off MN. surely you can't all be so happily oblivious to what goes on around you. will just haveto go back to conspiracytheorists.com huh ladies?

OP posts:
huddspur · 01/03/2011 23:48

I'll do it but I think the census is intrusive and a waste of time. I bet its the last one ever done though.

Sorry, Winston - you are accusing us of being the conspiracy theorists? Blimey.

Look, Hatti's right. The census is used so people can ensure public services are in the right places. The death data is also collated to ensure people are dying evenly across the country (don't laugh, what I mean by that is it would show up if there was something like a cancer cluster in a certain area which would need investigating).

You can get your knickers in a twist about it but it's a fact of life.

To the poster earlier who said it had to be done by a private company because the civil service wasn't geared up for it - minor snort - who do you think has been doing it since 18-whatnot? There used to be an Office of Population Censuses and Surveys whose job this was, and it was merged into the Office for National Statistics a few years ago. Why it can't now do the census I don't know, presumably now it's smaller.

HattiFattner · 02/03/2011 07:57

winston, you come across as very paranoid. You are the one making conspiracy therory noises, not us. Just because someone doesnt agree with your paranoid world view about americans planning to round us all up in interrment camps and the CIA scruitinizing the data from the census, doesnt make us wrong.

And throwing all your toys out your pram because MN doesnt automatically pat you on the head and say "by golly you are right, how could we have been so stupid" is quite frankly trolling behaviour. Im surprised you have not had your best friend come on and tell us how upset you are!

If there was any merit to your conspiracy theory, do you not think the great and good (like all those wonderful elected MPs, councellors etc.) would be all over it like a rash. Not just the coalition MPs but also Labour, green party, independants....

What about leading mandarins from WHitehall?
What about university professors? Where are the intelligent protesters?

Instead you quote quite dubious material from obscure websites to justify your paranoid belief that the yanks are coming.

  1. Not everything you read on the net is true.
  1. Not everything you read on the paper is true.
  1. Someone disagreeing with you does not make them stupid, ignorant or a bad person.
  1. MN has some of the wisest, articulate and intelligent posters on the net. I've learned a lot since I joined about a host of subjects. Not many clamouring to agree with you - does that tell you something?
  1. If you had answered any of the valid points raised in this discussion, you might have been taken a bit more seriously. If anyone thought you had seriously considered more than just the ridiculous arguments in the links you placed, you might have found people more willing to engage in serious debate. But citing japanese interrent camps is just one hairs bredth away from invoking Godwins law..
  1. The people I find protest most about the census are those for whom public services are an optional. If you send your child to public school, who cares about state school places? If you have BUPA, who cares about hospitals? If you have two nice shiney cars in your driveway, who cares about public transport? If you have a nice house in a nice leafy suburb with a big garden for your kids to play in, who cares about surestart centres and playgrounds? If you have gym membership, who cares about public parks and recreation?

jesus my reference to conspiracytheorists.com was directed at MYSELF. I will haveto go back to conspiracytheorists.com etc....next time will make sure i stick in the pronoun. i'm not as uptight as you all are that i can't poke fun at myself. next time will make sure i stick in the pronoun.

outta here.

and Hatti i hope our paths never cross on here again OR when you come knocking on doors in your rewarding job.

winstonsmith · 02/03/2011 09:55

one thing you wrote has got me a-thinking though hatti re. the getting self manufactered "friends" on to back you up. is that what you do? wow, certainly casts some posts in a whole new light. thanks for filling me in on MN protocol as the thought had never crossed my mind. and i'm the paranoid one!

have a nice dayeeeeeee

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 02/03/2011 09:56

I'm always secretly impressed by people who can be bothered to create sock puppets.

HattiFattner · 02/03/2011 11:24

ditto coalition. Grin I had not heard the term "sock puppet" before, but I love it! I think I may change my name to "CIAsockpuppet" just for fun. Grin

OP: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

winstonsmith · 02/03/2011 11:45

haven't you got anything better to do hatti?

or are you bent on getting the last word? if you reply to this or get ciasockpuppet to then i'll know you're a tad bored with your life.

get out knocking on those doors and doing summat useful instead of obsessing on MN.

no strawberries i couldn't as OH has had words and reckons i should now refrain from discussing my hypotheses on here as he's of the opinion they could be held against me one day if i'm ever hauled in as an "enemy of democracy".

he's italian though and well versed in conspiracies real or otherwise whereas i, being an unassuming brit, would NEVER think it possible. Hmm and, indeed, Wink

strawberries ok i'll answer as i'm a sucker and i never obey OH anyway. your first question re. if 'twas a wholly brit company would i object. well, yes if they were arms manufacturers. on a moral level. my other objection is down to the fact lockheed will possibly pass on that data to the cia in their dodgy persecution of anyone they deem enemies of democracy whereas a brit company couldn't LEGALLY do that which isn't to say they wouldn't but they could risk prosecution.

re. WMD. it was never a valid worry as weapons inspectors repeatedly pointed out to UN and UK/US gov's. yet the flimsy, flawed intelligence on there being these WMD was used to manipulate public opinion. this highlights how no power system can be trusted to tell the truth when the maintaining of that power is the bottom line.

so there. have answered and these are my opinions; i'm not arrogant enough to presume they're TRUE but in a democracy we're allowed freedom of expression. even in a world of hattis howling you down.

OP posts:
HattiFattner · 02/03/2011 12:37

troll rule no.405.

Do not attack the argument, attack the poster. This way no one will suspect you of having hairy feet and living under a bridge.

I AM the axis of evil and a CIA stooge. Oh yes.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 02/03/2011 12:40

Lockheed can't pass the data on legally either.

winstonsmith · 02/03/2011 12:52

what ARE you bleating on about hatti..........think i'll just ignore you now.

coalition. really? how can you be so sure? lockheed is a US company so subject to Patriot Act. lockheed UK maybe a subsidiary but lockheed are, ultimately, above the law and, arguably, ARE the law considering the powerful players working n their behalf.

i really must go now which is not "flouncing off"..it's coz i got other stuff o be getting on with but PLEASE carry on the democratic discussion in my absence.

winstonsmith - you can't claim that it's all a trick to get the data legally, and then claim that the company will just get the data illegally anyway.

winstonsmith · 02/03/2011 13:07

check out who the supreme court judges are strawb. they're put there by politicians with links via lobbying or otherwise to Lockheed. it was the supreme court that failed to intervene when the 2000 presidency was wrongly awarded to Bush! come on now we all need to wake up and smell the proverbial caffe here........

OP posts:
TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 02/03/2011 13:09

Lockheed US or the CIA can't get the data legally if Tescos collect the data.

Lockheed US or the CIA can't get the data legally if Lockheed UK collect the data.
