Should racist speech be controlled by the law?

Specifically the criminal law, i.e. should it be an offence (as it is now), or is freedom of speech too important?

Wow, have read the whole of this thread and can't believe how the ethnic people became so hostile and antagonistic, with one poster becoming so irate as to actually accuse another poster (wrongly) of having the title 'my country'. Still I believe all people of all the countries in the world are racist, everyone wants to be in thier own tribe, with norms and values that are exclusive to them.

I live in a pre-dominantly muslim area - the grief I get is almost daily - still my fault, I should move out, then I'll be a racist for 'white-flight' no doubt!! Oh well the joys of multi-culti!!!
