this is getting embarrassing now

Yes he is a bit 'accident prone'.
I didn't like what he said in USA about WW2.

Still on a bit of a honeymoon period with the press. That can't last for ever can it. The MPs can hide themselves away over the summer, but DC can't any longer. I'm surprised at some of the gaffs he's made. He's not as good as I thought he would be. The opposition need to get themselves sorted.

longfingernails · 06/08/2010 10:43

It was a gaffe, unquestionably. Shouldn't have happened.

However, do just remind me, how many public meetings did Gordon Brown do, just for comparison?

Cameron has already done four such meetings, according to the No 10 website.

www.number10.gov.uk/tag/pm-direct

At least he has the guts to go and talk to the unwashed masses, instead of being holed up in his bunker!

In general, I really respect his honesty on foreign policy. Pakistan is a hotbed incubator of terrorism. We all know it; finally, a British PM has the audacity to say it in public.

LadyBlaBlah · 06/08/2010 16:21

I laugh so hard at you grasping at straws to defend him

The guy is a liability and changes his mind like the wind

I think you will find one of the major criticisms of Davey is that he has no substance, and he just goes to prove with his trips to see "Johnny Foreigner". It is clear he has not thought through what he thinks about any of this.

And don't think this is great diplomacy or even honesty, it is pure and simple stupidity.

OP posts:
loonyrationalist · 06/08/2010 17:10

He is either very naive or particularly stupid, probably both. It's all getting a bit george.w.bush v.v.embarrasing for us as a country.

claig · 06/08/2010 17:45

What next? Will he think that Churchill is the dog on the insurance adverts? Is this an example of dumbing down? What does this say about Eton and Oxford?

I think he may need to do less of these public meetings and start swotting up on GCSE history and current affairs.

BarmyArmy · 06/08/2010 18:20

Stop the press!

Shock, horror - lefties on MN think the PM's slip-up a sign of underlying stupidity/poor judgement.

Did you know that they recently confirmed that the Pope was a Catholic?

BeenBeta · 06/08/2010 18:32

OFGS! The left wing really are desperate if this is all they can talk about to criticise Cameron for.

We all know perfectly well this was just a slip of the tongue. Iran has a nuclear facility and there is significant international concern that facility may give Iran the potential build a nuclear weapon.

Stop splitting hairs. What is more important a slight slip of the tongue or a major foreign policy issue of Iran potentially having a nuclear weapon?

LadyBlaBlah · 06/08/2010 20:47

LOL @ slight slip of the tongue

The guy is a disaster. As I said all along, totally inexperienced and a total amateur.

And no - this is not all I could criticise him for BeenBeta - the list is pretty much endless, indeed I find it difficult to find anything he does that is praiseworthy. I find it amazing anyone would think he is any shape or form effective.

'Bloody nice bloke' (if I am being kind), but totally shocking prime minister. And its only going to get worse. Wait until Osbourne unleashes his power on full throttle.

OP posts:
ArthuriaAugustaDArcy · 06/08/2010 20:49

Oh, the lefties on MN are a pain. I wish they would go away and have a Lefty MN all on their own.

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/08/2010 20:56

Riiiight, so the PM makes three or four foreign policy gaffes in a short timescale and it's naughty of the MN "Lefties" to comment. Ooooh, bad us... FFS, even Prince Philip leaves a gap between the gaffes!

claig · 06/08/2010 20:57

Are you saying they are a bunch of lightweights? What about Clegg? surely he can turn things round?

longfingernails · 06/08/2010 21:01

LadyBlaBla Obviously you disagree with his policies - but surely even you can see that in terms of style and management of government, he is a bazillion times better than Brown?

For a start, he can actually talk to people other than Ed Balls, Damian McBride and Charlie Whelan - even to people who disagree with him!

This isn't a party political point. People like John Redwood and Chris Grayling are terrible communicators. Liam Fox unfortunately shows signs of being a disastrous administrator. Someone like Alastair Darling seems like a pretty competent administrator/manager.

But when the PM himself is a terrible manager of people, delegator, and leader, very very bad things happen.

Yes, Cameron gaffes and makes mistakes. Do you remember Gordon Brown's "Obama beach", "0% spending rise", Gordon Brown chasing Barack Obama desperately through a UN kitchen, and infamous Youtube expenses video? I will be honest - I was all too glad to mock at all the above Gordon Brown gaffes, as well as the Mrs Duffy fiasco - purely out of partisan glee and spite. However, in the grand scheme of things they didn't change anything. Cameron's gaffes won't either.

Of course Cameron should make fewer mistakes - we all should! But his Prime Ministerialness - just like that of Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher - is unquestionable.

pinkteddy · 06/08/2010 21:03

Nick Clegg has made a few gaffes of his own recently - there was the illegal war gaffe and now he may be investigated by the parliamentary standards watchdog watchdog asked to investigate claims Nick Clegg misled parliament

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/08/2010 21:06

lfn your loyalty does you credit but I fear his Prime Ministerialness is, for most of us, still very much in question.

I think he has the potential to be a great Prime Minister (and I would rather stick pins in my eyes than vote Conservative) but unless he pulls his socks up the media will have a field day.

claig · 06/08/2010 21:07

Have to agree, Cameron's gaffes have been extremely baffling for someone with his education and background in politics, but he is far better than Gordon Brown. Anything not to see that hideous grin on our television screens, and no more tales of depression and doom and of mobile phones being thrown at all and sundry. No more of the Napoleon complex, the "we have 50 days left to save the planet" flannel, and "we saved the world". He wasn't even able to save his bacon.

claig · 06/08/2010 21:10

Yes I was being tongue in cheek about Westminster Clegg. We haven't yet seen what he is capable of. I'm sure the gaffes will come thick and fast.

pinkteddy · 06/08/2010 21:13

yes wonder how often 'call me dave' will be letting clegg loose at PMQs from now on?!

claig · 06/08/2010 21:15

I think they will have to let David Davis do it.

foxytocin · 06/08/2010 21:18

'hotbed incubator'

longfingernails · 06/08/2010 21:22

Yes foxytocin, I can gaffe too :)

ninah · 06/08/2010 21:27

Lady blahblah
he is not that bloody nice actually

foxytocin · 06/08/2010 21:32

sorry fingernails. I have just been over at Pedant's corner and couldn't control myself.

LadyBlaBlah · 06/08/2010 21:42

his Prime Ministerialness?

Fuck me, that's the point. That thing he does with his bottom lip (licking it I think or maybe a suck in sort of thing) and the way he says "look" while doing that hands thing with a really genuine look into the eyes..................he just hasn't got it. Some people do and some people don't. Dave never has and never will. If you make a gaffe and you have got it then no matter, but he really is an easy target - let's face it, if he couldn't get a majority after the state Labour were in..................it ain't looking good.

OP posts:
longfingernails · 06/08/2010 21:59

I can't say I've noticed anything particularly strange about David Cameron's lower lip. I will look out for it in future though.

But I really don't think Labourites are in any position to complain about body language, after Gordon Brown... I mean - that rictus grin - it gave everyone nightmares!

LadyBlaBlah · 06/08/2010 22:42

Ah but you have noticed that "look' thing he does Smile

Look out for the lower lip action. Tis weird. I think he looks like he is about to dribble then sucks it back in at the last minute
