No.

Was raised a strict catholic.

madamebovine · 21/06/2010 20:46

No I don't. I wish I did as it gives people comfort and solace in times of trouble. I had faith then lost it.

Habbibu · 21/06/2010 20:46

Raised Catholic, now atheist.

SagacityNell · 21/06/2010 20:46

No.

Deemented · 21/06/2010 20:46

I use to believe in a God.

Then my son died.

I don't believe anymore.

Habbibu · 21/06/2010 20:46

Don't miss it, tbh.

Habbibu · 21/06/2010 20:47

No and also raised a Catholic

It worries me now that I'm raising kids who may "find god" as a reaction to their godless upbringing

jenroy29 · 21/06/2010 20:49

I can't really understand how anyone could believe in a god nowadays but I respect the views of others.

Brights website

sfxmum · 21/06/2010 20:50

No

raised Catholic

PrettyFeckinVacant · 21/06/2010 20:50

No, but same as madamebovine I wish I did sometimes as it seems to help people so much.

My Mum was brought up a strict Catholic, getting beatings from the nuns at school. So she turned her back on that.

My Dad was brought up a strict Jew but his Dad then left them (6 dc and Mum) to set up home with another woman. Dad turned his back on Jewish faith.

I was brought up faith-less

Ragwort · 21/06/2010 20:51

Yes, I have a strong faith and am a member of a church community.

ifancyashandy · 21/06/2010 20:51

Virtual do you really believe in Heaven and Hell? Not judgemental - I am genuinely interested.

Where are they for you? Does the Devil live inside the earths crust, whilst the Big Fella resides up in the sky?

Or am I being far too literal? Or ignorant - has Christianity moved on from those ideas?

Habbibu · 21/06/2010 20:52

Oh Lord. Think I'd rather eat my own teeth than describe myself as a "Bright".

lal123 · 21/06/2010 20:52

no, raised protestant
Don't see any need or reason to believe in a God

Portofino · 21/06/2010 20:53

I used to. My mum died when i was young and I found great comfort in the idea that she was out there somewhere watching over me. That idea held less appeal when I was 15 , but generally to me the "omnipresent God" of whatever flavour is illogical.

I think it was "invented" when people had short, crap lives and needed more "meaning". Spirituality on the other hand....a friend of mine is a Buddhist and I quite admire the philosophy behind that...

msboogie · 21/06/2010 20:57

Raised Catholic, now atheist.

Takver · 21/06/2010 20:57

No, raised without religion, so don't really 'get' it I think.

My Mum was actively raised as an atheist (much more of a big thing in the 40s I guess), as her father had left the Catholic church for personal reasons. She rebelled by going to church for a while as a teenager - but I think now for my generation in the family it is more irrelevant than anything else.

BosomsByTheSea · 21/06/2010 20:57

Why Habbibu? Bit of a crappy name I'll agree, but I think atheists need a voice in society (counteract all the blimmin 'thought for the day' and 'someone has chosen euthanasia, what does the Bishop think')

Lots of high profile atheists are involved; they also think it's time that one of the largest groups was better represented in debates about education, society and health decisions, for example.

Porto, if you read the Ragged Trousered Philanthropist, it seems the whole thing was invented to keep the working class fearful and in their place.
