Hi there
The Hedgewitch book by Rae Beth is really good.
Unfortunately I got rid of all my pagan books when I had DS, out of extreme paranoia that a HV would see them and report me. I now recognise this as a symptom of PND and regret donating to Oxfam the magical library I had spent 15 years building up!

Iklboo · 03/10/2009 14:28

Dis - yes I am! Heaton Park is great for discreet barkrubbing cos I can just lean against one of the trees and pretned I'm watching DS play

Disenchanted3 · 03/10/2009 14:53

Hahaha - do you wear a long mac for your bark rubbing?

We were going to go to Heaton Park today, i think it was there at least - They are having some kind of festival thing - but its freezing and windy and I decided to stay home and make some yummy lunch instead, lol.

Oh Gothmummy I would be sad about that too, but just think that they have gone onto a new owner who will appreciate them.

Disembodied3 · 04/10/2009 16:39

Hiya,

had a really bad experience today picking up the 'crystal ball'

Am feeling really shit

ChilloHippi · 04/10/2009 17:17

DO you want to share it, Dis?

Disembodied3 · 04/10/2009 17:44

I feel a bit daft really

I spoke to the woman on the phone and she as so nice sounding and I said I would go and collect the ball today.

As she sounded so nice I went without DH and the kids as it would be hard with all 3 of them on the bus.

Anyway I get there and its flats and they were creepy! And she was at the top floor,

She opened the door and she just seemed really 'odd' nothing I can put my finger on, I just felt immdeiatly uneasy.

We go in and she was nice but kept telling me to sit down etc... I just wanted to get out of there!

But I think she was nutty ... she brought out the crytal ball and the cards, I, looked at them and just said ''oh, thats great - Ill just get them in my bag' and she was trying to put them in my bag for me,

Then she was faffing about with LOADS of carrier bags and by this time I was getting quite panicked! (You'll see why in a minute!)

So I get all the bits in and give her a tenner ... and on the way out shes saying 'ive loads more stuff if you want any - just give me a ring and ill sort out what ever you want.

I was SO glad to get out.

The crystal ball was one of these ... here but with a big iced wedding cake inside

with 'to a special couple' wriiten on the base

She had sellotaped photocopies of a picture of a genie onto it and told me there were 3 wishes inside.

And the tarot cards she had made herself!

they were black and white printouts sellotaped onto pieces of ceral boxes.

And she gave me a used candle.

I was so freaked out.

I know you must be thinking 'why did you pay her for them?'

But I just wanted to get out of there and was scared I ma offend her.
I cried when I got home

i feel stupid fo putting myself in that situation but on the phone she seemed so well, normal!

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 04/10/2009 17:47

Are you all really Wiccans?

Snowtiger · 04/10/2009 18:20

Oh Dis you poor thing, that's awful. If I were you I'd get rid of all the things you got from her, have a nice hot bath and do some kind of cleansing ritual (smudging with sage is quick and easy and I find it really helpful), then chalk it up to experience! YOu'll be fine in the morning, we all make mistakes from being too trusting at times x

Disembodied3 · 04/10/2009 18:47

Thanks Snowtiger,

I was planning on doing a cleansing tonight but it was supposed to be of the cards and ball in preperation for use - not for cleansing me after such a bad day

Snowtiger · 04/10/2009 19:24

Well it might be worth a go - cleanse yourself of any bad energy, from the woman or just from within yourself, bad feelings about it etc.

Forgive me for asking but do you feel happy about using the cards and ball after everything you've been through? If they have associations of bad feeling / creepiness etc they might not be the best tools for you - I've found in the past I really have to feel happy with my cards etc and that they're really 'mine' before I can use them comfortably. Maybe that's just me, but if it were me I think I'd chuck 'em and start again.

You could always make your own cards, and use a bowl of water with dark blue colouring in it as a scrying surface instead of a glass ball? Hope I'm not being bossy! None of my business really, I just feel uncomfortable for you using them, given how bad you seem to feel about everything that's happened. I am a bossy old cow at times, sorry if that's how I'm coming across, just feel it's such a shame that something you were so excited about turned out to be such a grim experience.

Disembodied3 · 04/10/2009 20:22

Oh no I threw them away!

I think the big cake in the middle may have put me off!

You don't come across as bossy at all, quite the opposite actually - helpful and caring!

I feel the same as you, I think things have to feel positive for them to work!

Think I may have a little full moon ritual to cheer myself up a bit.

Its a lovely night.

ChilloHippi · 04/10/2009 21:12

Dis, that sounds scary. Where did you contact her from? That's not really a crystal ball, is it? It's sort of a snow globe. Weird.
And the full moon is gorgeous tonight

Snowtiger · 05/10/2009 14:30

Hope your ritual cheered you up, Dis and that it cleared your energy / feelings too.

If you don't find the right cards / crystal etc. in the meantime, how about asking a trusted loved one to buy you some for Christmas (Solstice / Yule)? I read once that tarot cards 'work' best if they're given to you as a present rather than bought by you yourself. I've bought lots of packs over the years but the only deck I use with confidence is the one my parents bought me when I was 12. They're a bit tattered and battered, but I love them!

DippyDino · 05/10/2009 23:33

Dis... what can I say? I would have run for the hills...

Get yourself onto amazon and type in 'tarot cards' they have a huge amount to choose from. Good prices too for the most part.

Crystal balls are more expensive, perhaps just get a book about them first, then you will have a better idea what you want.

DippyDino · 05/10/2009 23:36

Hang on I am getting all bossy... haha, get me with the get thee to amazon attitude!

I love internet shopping though and amazon is my favourite for esoteric books etc.

ChilloHippi · 06/10/2009 08:29

I wish Amazon took Paypal.

beldaran · 06/10/2009 13:27

Hello all....can i join in?

I was raised Pagan but chose Wicca when i was old enough. Trying to get back into full wicca mode after 3 tough years after the birth of DD (you will most likely find me in the SN section).

Looking forward to talking to other like minded people.

BB

Snowtiger · 06/10/2009 14:14

Hi Beldaran and welcome to the group! Would love to hear about your upbringing as a pagan, sounds much more glamorous than C of E!

ChilloHippi · 06/10/2009 19:17

Yes it does sound interesting. Tell us more

beldaran · 06/10/2009 20:10

Well, it's not really any different from being raised as a Catholic/Muslim etc.

Until i was actually old enough to understand what was going on, i wasn't included in rituals etc but when i could understand what i was being asked to do and the reasoning behind it i was allowed to partake. The one thing i do remember is being taught the wiccan rede and it is something that i still live by.

My parents were very much solitary pagans (we have a distant relationship now due to other things). I suppose that i one reason why i don't feel comfortable in a coven although i am of able experience to be a senior member of one.

I am a member of the Pagan Federation and also The Children Of Artemis (mainly for the contacts and local news). I specialise in crystals and herbology and i do like to dabble in tarot when i have free time.

I am open to anyone asking me questions i feel the more information i can give the less misunderstanding i face. Though i have never had any problems with people after i have told them.

Samhain is my favourite sabbat as i was born on the 30th. I am married but i did Handfast my husband and he is Atheist with interesting in shamanism.

Hope i havent bored anyone

BB

ChilloHippi · 06/10/2009 20:31

Do you wear a pentagram anywhere?

beldaran · 06/10/2009 20:52

Yes i have a few pendants that i wear. I also have a few bags with pentagrams or pentacles on.

I have a lovely pair of earrings too....planning on a tattoo aswell but can't decide where.

MisterAlestorm · 07/10/2009 00:04

"I am a member of the Pagan Federation and also The Children Of Artemis"

The CoA let you join if you're in the PF now? Wow. Things must have changed there...

beldaran · 07/10/2009 08:13

Well i've always been a member of both.

Don't see why it should matter to them.
