I feel it is , very similar to what i do in hypnotherapy sessions. Also similar to meditation yes , with meditation you just need to let other thougts go , by acknoweldeging them and letting them flow away.
All it is is training the mind to concentrate on one thing only for a streteched period of time. It is acheivable, id suggest trying it a few times a day , just start by doing some deep breathing only, so as not to overwhelm/overload the mind with a new way of being.
When I was being shown how to self hypnotise , my therapist made me put post it notes all over the house,(fridge/car/bedside/ pc), to make me deep breathe over and over for 6-7 days, at least 6-7 times a day!!! It worked as I do it automatically now. Breathe in through nose whilst expanding tummy and getting that sensation of filling yuor lungs(hand on chest to really feel it), then pause and exhale letting out all the inhilation. Just do this first then after a week or so move onto just visualising a relaxing colour moving into your body whilst doing the breathing. Imagine the colour soothing and calming your mind and body. You can really do any form of this that you want; the colur could be water , smoke , it could pour from your head down , it could seep from your feet up . eventually you can : walk yourself down into a walled magic garden , move up stairs to a white floating sanctuary, sit on a deck or balcony loking out at white beach and the sea. Imagine what these views and places are doing to yourbody is it cool, warm , breezy . Do you feel at peace?? are you relaxed??
Do whatever really makes you get that hmmmmmmmmmmm feeling! These are all just suggestions, my therapist is always encouraging indivdual and personal ways of doing it. Learning to do it withought any props (tapes/cd's) is a good discipline as you can then access the techniques withought anything but your MBS xx HTH xx. Now Ive told you and written this its reminded me that I would like to really be doing more often !!!
I love coming to this space and I dont always remeber how lovely it is.
