What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen God do?

If you’re a Christian, like a miracle or breakthrough, or even maybe someone encouraged you with exactly what you needed to hear and you know it was God… all those sorts of things… I wanna hear!

OP posts:

Ah yes, I remember when the god I used to believe in made my son suffer then die, then 10 years later brought my daughter nothing but pain and misery and then she died.

It's OK though, he apparently has a plan and only takes his greatest warriors or some such shit.

It's OK though because God apparently helped my neighbour find her keys and helped the lady over the road get her cat returned to her, swings and roundabouts I guess.

CurlewKate · 04/10/2024 16:44

It's not "Have (ing) a Pop at Other People's Belief Systems."to want to question things like "someone's leg grew longer after prayer"

I'm perfectly prepared to accept that things happen when I take a breath, pause and calm my mind - I might see a parking space I'd previously missed, or my stress induced headache, skin condition or stomach issues resolve, and some people call that the answer to a prayer. Amazing coincidences do happen and expected remissions of illness happen too. Some people call those answers to prayer too. What I don't think is good for individuals or society is framing these things as miraculous. Apart from anything else, it leaves people open to charlatans. The leg lengthening videos that periodically go the rounds are a case in point.

The fact that it appears in Active Discussions is irrelevant. Yes it will get seen more for that reason, but the forum title is Philosophy/Religion, not Have a Pop at Other People's Belief Systems. If people really want to do that, there's nothing to stop them starting their own thread, but it's got nothing to do with what OP is asking.

Aren't you having a pop at other people's belief systems by telling them this thread ... with God in the title.. has got nothing to do with them?

Christianity is a relatively new religion, yours is not the only God.

Well according to one of their players, god saw to it that the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday.

No explanation forthcoming about why he saw fit to let the Buccaneers lose at the same time. Perhaps their players just didn't pray enough, or perhaps god had a bet riding on the Falcons or something.

for me it was when he Multiplied children’s party bags so each child had one.
I organised a community kids party as an alternative to Halloween, expected around 25 to 30 kids, I packed 40 party bags with sweets bubbles etc, thinking I would have loads spare to be on the safe side. We catered party food, (we pizza, hamburgers, snacks things) drinks etc for around 30.
By a miracle, word swept around the town and we ended up with over 70 kids who came after trick or treating etc, church was full with kids and their parents/minders. Amazingly, everyone, including adults received food and drinks, and incredibly, every single child left with a party bag. I myself was the one who packed the party bags and I know we had 40. But we had around 75 kids all leave with a party bag in hand and even had a couple left over for kids of the volunteers.

Darkdiamond · 04/10/2024 18:03

Sigh. There are plenty of threads debating the existence of God. The OP specifically asked believers for their experiences, not for non believers to shoe horn their views in.

Fantastic! Like the magic porridge pot.
God always loved a good party. Best ever party trick was the water into wine, I often try but so far have failed.

Oh dear this isn’t going to go well, but I need to know more about the leg

What do you need to know?

My friend had 1 built up shoe for all the time I'd known her.

About 1994, a visiting healer came to our church. I was sceptical. He made a call for people to come forward with one leg shorter than the other. She was the only one who went forward. He sat her on a chair with her legs stretched out in front of her. He prayed a very calm prayer. I slowly watched the built up shoe extend forward as he continued praying over a period of about 5 minutes.

She's not had to wear a built up shoe since as her legs have been the same length since that day.

AndThereSheGoes · 04/10/2024 18:15

I'm not religious but my mums side are Portuguese and raised Catholic.

All I kniw is that St Anthony finds stuff. He's really, really good at it too.

AndThereSheGoes · 04/10/2024 18:21

@Downtoyou . I'm so sorry. 💔

Wait... so he just randomly asked for people with one leg shorter than the other to come forward, on the off-chance there just happened to be someone sat there fitting that particular description?

What if she had one arm shorter than the other?

"As sorry love, I can only grow legs 😕"?

In afraid this is the sort of thing that makes me boil. You believe that god produced party bags while people's kids die of cancer?

ImaniMumsnet · 04/10/2024 18:38

Hello everyone,

We’d like to remind everyone to read the OP’s post and keep all posts relevant to the ask of the OP. Any posters that continue to derail risk suspension.

I can't imagine this was a simple case of miscounting or over-estimating numbers. Presumably someone was stood on the door with a clicker, refusing any child without a bag permission to leave. **

Well every child had to be registered at entry so we know that there were over 70. The party bags were given at the door on leaving. I wasn’t one of the volunteers who gave them out but those that did insisted that each child took a party bag. Even if a few were missed and didn’t take one, that would be unlikely to be 30 kids who didn’t.
it doesn’t have an explanation, and if someone had told me this story and I hadn’t been involved I probably wouldn’t have believed them either. The only reason I believe it was God was because I was there, I was the one who prepared 40 party bags, and there was no other explanation. To me, and all the volunteers, it can only be explained as a miraculous event.

Fair point. Turning yourself into a series of birds and animals to have sex with mortal women is probably up there.

At least they had some warning of potentially becoming pregnant.

Some poor kid a couple of thousand years ago just got a message from the father's sideman after it had happened 'Hey kid, guess what? You're pregnant, isn't that great and aren't you lucky? Oh, you'll get stoned to death for this? No worries, I'll have a chat with your fiancé and smooth things over, you can keep this a secret between you, me, your boyfriend, your Mum and Dad, his Mum and Dad, your cousins and, of course, the actual father. Oh, and I'll definitely let you know a few days in advance when the batshit King of this country decides to murder all under fives because some guys we're going to invite to see the baby will tell him yours will replace him, just so as you can all run like mad to get out of the country for a bit whilst everybody else has their little boys massacred. Laters, kid'.

no, it’s not random- actually sometimes a particular ailment may be called out for people to come forward who have it as God has told someone in the congregation what He plans to do on that particular occasion.

Fetchthevet · 04/10/2024 19:13

I remember reading an article online called "Why does God hate amputees?" It was about the fact that when prayers are said for healing of amputees their arms or legs have never miraculously grown back. Odd that.

Fetchthevet · 04/10/2024 19:16

About 20 years ago a friend of mine had a tumour on his back and attended a Catholic healing mass. He was given a blessing and when he woke up the next day the lump had completely disappeared. Coincidence or God?
