What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen God do?

If you’re a Christian, like a miracle or breakthrough, or even maybe someone encouraged you with exactly what you needed to hear and you know it was God… all those sorts of things… I wanna hear!

I don't get why atheists have to come on to threads like these and try to spoil them. I'm not sure why atheists are even interested in the religion board, but in particular why click on a thread about God if you don't believe in God. Why can't people just live and let live?

Well firstly, this thread is not on a private site for believers, it’s on a public site anyone in the world can read.
Secondly, the topic affects everyone in the world. We have all suffered, some lightly but some greatly. And this thread is happily asking for the crazy great news of stuff God has done. But for those who have suffered they are seeing happiness at what God has done for others but chosen not to do for them. Or chosen not to do for people they care about. Or for people they don’t know but whose suffering disturbs them. You can surely see why this provoked strong reactions?

I genuinely find rejoicing at leaving most to suffer but handpicking a few to help deeply offensive. There’s something so callously disregarding about it.

If you are going to post something that affects everyone on a site everyone can read, I don’t think you really have grounds for complaint when anyone replies.

I asked similar earlier and my post was removed which I’m really pissed off about as it didn’t break any talk guidelines. Apparently we’re not allowed to question these things 🙄

I’m sorry!! Please question things, I’m not of the mind that everyone thinks the same as me.

You may not have seen, but I’ve said a few times that I also question things and I don’t have all the answers. I’m simply sharing my first hand experience, which I can’t deny because I was there and it’s happened so many times.

I know that’s a frustrating answer, sorry!

I will probably get slaughtered for this, but I’m hoping not because it’s just my beliefs and I happen to be a Christian. I know a lot of people are really against Christians but I wish they knew that we’re not like the idiots that come up in the news or elsewhere for the awful things we’ve done. That’s such a tiny percentage of a huge group of people who just want to live their faith and care for others. It’s in the same vein as extremists - these are people doing things and hiding behind a religion and are not representative of that religion as a whole at all.

For me it’s not just about miracles and what God can do - I believe in Jesus and a life after this. So even when I don’t see a miracle or a prayer answered I still have hope. I’m happy for people to disagree with me on that because it’s simply my belief and I don’t feel that people should be angry at me for it, just as I’m not angry at those who don’t believe!!

As I’ve said probably about five times now - I don’t have all the answers, I’ve doubted in my faith, I’ve questioned a lot, and it won’t be the last time. However, my first hand experience means I believe in God and in miracles. I don’t believe that he causes all the bad, I believe that bad things happen because there are lots of horrible people in the world and God isn’t a controlling God.

I know this answer won’t satisfy a lot of people but it’s really not what this thread was for anyway 😂

'You don't see faith healers working in hospitals for the same reason you don't see psychics winning every lottery' - faith and warm fuzzy feelings aside OP, if healing by prayer worked then doctors would be redundant and, well, they're not.

If you believe God is omniscient and omnipotent, and that he created the world and everything in it, then he is responsible for every cruelly early death, every tsunami, every genocide, just as much as for the warm and fuzzy miracles.

Can you explain why you don't agree?

As it is, I was brought up atheist then became a christian and then realised I could no longer be a christian. Studying the bible quite intensely, praying, worshipping, and spending time with a whole variety of christians, made me realise that there were too many aspects of the bible and of christianity which just didn't make sense and/or were so utterly offensive that I no longer wanted to have any part of it.

Do you believe all the evil things in the world come from the devil then? Do you believe in hell as well as heaven? I'm not being goady, I'm genuinely curious.

I believe and have seen more prayer in hospitals than church (and yes, plenty of medics will pray as well as use medicine 😉).
Important not to always be cynical.

It's also important to question something which troubles you.

Yes, I do! I’m aware lots of people will think I’m nuts but that’s just what I believe.

Appreciate you asking without being goady :)

There is no miracle possible that would make me believe in some deity who gets to decide which children die because of disease/war/famine/natural disaster.

If your god is more powerful than the devil, which we're told he is, why doesn't he do something about him?

Eyesthelimit · 05/10/2024 10:41

@Goxhound yes much more believable that he is actually a spiteful childish being that really doesn't give a shit, creates a planet watches from a distance as it destroys itself. Half heartedly attempts a few interventions and then gives up and buggers off to start a new project elsewhere in the galaxy !

He's maybe a bloody minded teenager and his parent gods are going to be very angry when they find out what a state he has left the place in ?

ZenNudist · 05/10/2024 10:46

I don't believe in the devil as such but I know there is evil in the world. I believe all good is from God. I don't know why evil exists but it doesn't disprove the existence of God. Especially for those that try and connect with the divine they would know that goodness exists.

Apart from your first sentence, I agree.

But really, this is not the question I asked 😂 what is going on 😂

Nothing 'proves' the existence of gods or devils or anything else spiritual.
Some folk choose to believe in a certain faith story, that's their choice, but it doesn't mean it cannot be questioned or criticised.

BenditlikeBridget · 05/10/2024 11:02

Your OP title asked what the craziest thing we’ve “seen God do” is.

Purely answering that- IF God exists, then the craziest thing i’ve see him do is allow evil people to flourish. If he is omnipotent (and if not, what’s the point) then the second craziest thing is the russian roulette he seems to base his decisions on in terms of who gets protected/saved/healed.

Crazy actions indeed.
