If you’re a Christian, like a miracle or breakthrough, or even maybe someone encouraged you with exactly what you needed to hear and you know it was God… all those sorts of things… I wanna hear!

Lets around half a million children die each year from malaria.

ProvincialLady2024 · 04/10/2024 10:32

Create a world full of hatred, violence and cruelty in the name of worshipping him?

Viviennemary · 04/10/2024 10:32

Give people free will. It's a recipe for disaster, IMHO.

And writing it.
And deciding what’s in or out.
And deciding that mistakes and contradictions don’t matter
And deciding what languages to write it in.
And then changing their minds.
But then deciding when the cut off point will be, even when further manuscripts are discovered after that point

Inspire people of enormous talent to dedicate their lives to healing the sick, feeding the poor, bring comfort to those in prison or refugee camps, or are otherwise victims of general inhumanity - when they could have chosen to use those talents for personal enrichment instead. This is fortunately a miracle that happens many many times.

DC was diagnosed with a rare disease where its effects are minimal if it's treated within the first 3-4 days of it being symptomatic. I'll still never understand why, but we decided to take DC on day 2 of vomiting and a rash (upon reflection, fairly non-specific symptoms which I know many of my baby club have taken no action for until progressed for a day) to A&E to a non local hospital. It happens that this hospital is a world famous research centre for this particular disease. DH and I had no idea but I put it down as an act of Allah (we are Muslim). The doctors acted very quickly and DC, after two months of treatment, is like any other toddler now and we are so grateful.

OldTinHat · 04/10/2024 11:04

I'm not religious and don't believe in an 'almighty' judging us all. Interestingly, my MH nurse suggested I volunteer at a local church. I popped in last night to say hello, told the minister that I didn't believe. He said he didn't, either!

I'm so glad to hear your child is well and thriving. I'm not a Muslim (I am Christian) and I do believe that was divine intervention.

Excatly, a book basically for controlling others

When religion has helped society that is commendable,

@bluejellybelly thank you for making such a lovely thread and giving people a space to share their beautiful stories.

@ginasevern thank you, it truly felt miraculous. May you both have a blessed day x

Ignore genocide, rape, murder, child abuse etc, but gets bent out of shape because some randomer doesn’t chant certain words in a particular building every day/week.

Notagain24 · 04/10/2024 12:17

Gets to pick a tiny number of very ill children to cure, and convince their parents thinks that their child was more deserving than millions of others, and that they should share their good news with no regard to the suffering of families of other very sick children.

Also, finding car parking spaces for my mum.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 04/10/2024 12:25

If God is directly responsible for saving / healing some people then I think it’s pretty unfair on everyone else.

And if it all comes down to who prays the best, than that’s highly unfair too.

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 04/10/2024 12:38

Convinced masses of people across the world that he's the only one (no matter what name they refer to him as) and that they should kill others who don't believe in the same only named God or punish people who do believe in their same God but don't blindly follow exactly the "rules" (for example being gay).

You forgot the bit where apparently that’s all our fault because of ‘free will’! But it’s all OK because he let a Jewish preacher endure an unpleasant method of execution 2000 years ago, which apparently ‘ransoms’ everyone! Unless they think it’s all utter nonsense dating from a pre-scientific view of the world, obviously.

Drachuughtty · 04/10/2024 12:46

There was this one time when my neighbour needed a parking space so she said a prayer and got one! Almost enough to make me believe again...

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/10/2024 12:46
