Atheists and proof

1000 replies

Kdtym10 · 18/03/2024 09:07

On several threads, some atheists have said they would believe in God/the Divine if they had proof. If you’re an atheist what would that proof look like to you?

@Kdtym10 "Unfortunately, the humanist society took away our one CofE school"

How did they do that?

Lalupalina · 22/03/2024 17:02

Also are you that bothered about " funding " a few bible storied and colouring in?

No, like a previous poster, I strongly resent priority admission s being given to people of faith. These schools are funded by us all but unfortunately not accessible to us all.

I also don't think it's good for children to be 'brainwashed' into believing in a specific religion - I want all children to learn about all religions and about atheism so that they can make up their OWN minds as they grow into adulthood.

@Thegreatestoftheseislove Fair enough. I do have to say that your post displayed exactly the sort of arrogance that grinds people's gears about Christians.

You are entitled to your opinion.

Do you strongly stand against school catchment areas where people are priced out of attending decent schools?

No I am not.

Say you said that the Rwanda Bill was unjust and the Tories need to be kicked out because they are a bunch of entitled out-of-touch incompetents. Would it be a reasonable thing for me to say that I am Tory and that has deeply offended me to the core of being?

And would wider society say “that’s right, don’t criticise his political beliefs, that’s rude.”? Obviously not.

Try criticising the gender stance in scotland

I always find it funny when this sort of thing gets thrown at (generally) Christians by atheists. It’s generally not the Christian being rude

@Kdtym10 I'll understand if you don't want to-but could you give me a clue about what school you're talking about? I'd love to read more about it.

I didn't mind @CurlewKate calling me arrogant. I was a bit surprised because everything I've typed came from a light heart, and I thought we were having a friendly exchange of ideas, but if 'arrogance' is their perception, then I am sure they have their own reasons. 🙂

@Kdtym10 perhaps you should report your own post where you include an easily identifiable quote, perhaps?

If you make a large claim, expect it to be fact checked. If you don't want people to comment on your claims then don't post such identifiable content.

Really - o mistakenly thought people would use their discretion- clearly not!

Well, apart from denying, in a jocular/winky way, the reality of Christian privilege. The Christians I have most respect for are the ones who acknowledge it and don't like the unfairness of it.

fedupandstuck · 22/03/2024 19:28

Like I said I thought we were having a light hearted exchange of views, and it's a shame you took offence at my perceived "jocular/winky" way. You called me arrogant. It is is what it is. You are entitled to make your judgement. To which I will reply with a 😉I am rubber, you are glue: bounces off me and sticks to you.

Nope, sorry, you have still not convinced me that in my day to day life I have any more 'privilege' than you, despite your claims. There is no 'reality of Christian privilege'. I am no more 'privileged' today than you, nor compared when I was an unbeliever. Of course it is human nature to 'most respect' those who share your world view.

If you can show me proof of how you personally suffer unfairness in your day to day life compared to a disciple of Jesus, then we may be able to progress. Without proof we are at stalemate and this particular line of discussion can go no further.

Because resentment is absolutely dripping off you. Christians were the first who created schools in this country for children who weren't well off & we do have a tradition of history with many POSITIVE Christian social actions so how terrible there are some C of E schools around still.yes I agree about admissions but making OTT remarks you can't back up & nasty assumptions & comments is not on actually. And before anyone says how unchristian of me then maybe move on from silly stereotypes and understand how obvious your own behaviour is.

Nope just how much contempt they had for anyone believing the Christian faith.

its doesn’t matter who said that as a one off. There have been a lot more rude, derogatory comments from the atheist side.
