Atheists and proof

On several threads, some atheists have said they would believe in God/the Divine if they had proof. If you’re an atheist what would that proof look like to you?

Actually in terms of looking at the overall pattern, no. The occasional outlier shouldn’t matter. Or are you saying that everything is individual and one shouldn’t try and extrapolate a pattern? Are you saying scientific principles cannot be applied to every situation?

Ah another person coming a long trying to tell me why I started the thread. For people who don’t believe in the supernatural there seem to be a lot of atheists who are into mind reading lol!

So why are you trying to undermine me and the thread? There are some interesting patterns emerging.

I just want to make it clear that I used the word "arrogant" to describe not a person but a mindset which is incapable of acknowledging obvious privilege, probably because of the presumption of deserving it. This mindset does not apply just to Christians, and not,of course, to all Christians. But it does go with the feeling of being persecuted. Which Christians in the UK aren't.

Well I guess you would probably benefit more from working that out yourself. Love and light💚

Again projecting & assuming bc not one person has said Christians are persecuted. You have some idea about privilige when actually its just a result of our shared history & you know perfectly well that majority of Christians are just normal part of society, not better or worse off except your 1 example bc actually we have started & helped give children schooling for many years before.& then told me not one Christian cares about how unfair it is - very charming .

1Corinthians13 · 22/03/2024 21:52

Basically the equivalent of going to Saudi Arabia & complaining you can't get a pint. Sadly- or not -you can't erase history & I'm all for making things fair but not while dodging projectiles & seeing you insult others .

heyhohello · 22/03/2024 23:42

My stance is that I don't need evidence. That requires experience and knowledge which there isn't enough of to definitely make decisions in the situations I have encountered in my own lifetime. I need hope which belief in God (Christian) offers. Good enough for me. Statistically an outlier. Science wise. Cancer survivor. Genetically probably the proverbial. Refused testing. Don't want to curse future generations. All I can say is the thought of living without hope is an anathema to me. So God all the way. Thank you very much.

I bowed out of this thread, but thought I'd take a look back.

This is as bad a take on anything as I've seen in a long time! Really FFS!

So you claim it’s a bad take - but why? You haven’t explained it.

Christianity in entrenched within British culture. It’s impossible to separate out British history over near the past 1500 years from Christianity. Our laws, instructions and culture and customs have been formed within the framework of Christianity. Some of the comments on here about privilege are misguided to say the least and fail to recognise that this perception of Christian privilege is merely the alignment between the backdrop of the development of Britain and someone’s current spiritual practice.

Irrespective of numbers of practicing Christians Britain is still a Christian country in history and culture.

@1Corinthians13 "except your 1 example bc actually we have started & helped give children schooling for many years before.& then told me not one Christian cares about how unfair it is - very charming ."

The church provided hospital care for many years- does that mean Christians should get preferential access to health care? And I did not say "not one Christian cares about how unfair it is" Many do. There are lots of Christian Secularists.

1Corinthians13 · 23/03/2024 09:29

Actually you said -
it's about admissions policies, not about colouring in. But hey- why would you care? I've never yet met a Christian who didn't take a "Oh dear, how sad" attitude to school admissions.

Why would you care?? Do you actually hear yourself?

As I have said about 3 times now, I dont agree with the policies but why let that get in the way of another comment from leftfield about health care now ?

One thing I've always noticed with ppl like you is you could fix the problem but you wont fix the real problem which is you dont like us so then its on to the next thing to say sorry about

Just like I can say 3 different ways and still get a reply acting like i never said it .

Not interested .

1Corinthians13 · 23/03/2024 09:35

And ppl saying " oh dear how sad " 100% see that in you which is why they won't give you the energy you want .

heyhohello · 23/03/2024 09:59

One thought I had this morning is 'Do atheists feel there would be a gap left in their lives if they did not have people of faith to argue with about their faith?'

No gap left? Then why are you wasting your time? Gap left? Then why are you biting the hand that feeds, metaphorically speaking?

Turn the above question around to Christians it's easy.

We tell other people about our experiences of faith, if they are interested, because they might want to follow Christ themselves. The bind is discerning who is genuinely interested...and it's not always about people who are posting, it could be about people who simply read the threads.

heyhohello · 23/03/2024 10:02

@Graviga, why?

heyhohello · 23/03/2024 10:04

@Graviga I have posted the question, of why I come on threads like this many times. Especially after spending a great deal of time posting and ending up with neck and shoulder strain from spending too much time on my iPad!😂
