There's a lot of earthworks and settlements in my area, I think from more bronze age peoples though. I am just down the road from where the stones of Stonehenge are reputed to have come from, we have quite a few of the burial chambers dotted around. Always quite amazing to walk around and look at, marvelling at the precise engineering and sheer effort it took to make them, without all the aides of modern life we have today.

speakout · 07/02/2025 20:15

Thanks for the good wishes - and links, I will look into that when my eyes heal.

Surgery went well, it was a little daunting to know they would be cutting into my eyes but the anesthetist gave me IV sedation. I was awake and could hear what was going on but the medication took away my fear and anxiety.
My eyes feel sore and gritty. and I have a headache, I'm very tired my vision is foggy - I can see rainbow patterns around lights and lamps- which is quite sweet! This morning I had around 10% of vision, but that has been increasing over the day.
The surgeon phoned me this morning and reassured that everything is on track and normal, it will just take a little time and all the symptoms will resolve with in a few days.
I have a ton of different eye drops to take, my DD has worked out a schedule and I have set alarms on my phone- that is super helpful. My DS is supplying me with lots of tea, he is also reassuring me and setup a playlist of audio books- I am enjoying some Agatha Christie!
My OH has been very supportive too- hes bought me my favourite foods and snacks and squeezed a large bag of oranges for juice - I am feeling supported and loved.

@speakout I'm glad to hear all went well and you're being well looked after.

@speakout oh darling.... I feel for you, I really do. Families are such hard work, especially when you have a member such as your mum. I have many toxic family members, and it's hard to detach yourself from them, and when you are made out to be the bad guy when you give your all, it hurts. I have no words of wisdom or anything that will make it better, but know that I am standing at your shoulder in spirit, with a heart full of empathy and understanding.

quirkychick · 09/02/2025 14:55

@speakout feel free to rant! Surely the paramedics shouldn't expect you to be searching for stuff post surgery. We had years of difficulty with my late mil (including accusing dp of stealing etc). I'm currently having major issues with my own parents - who previously were open and supportive - but just when we most need it, are dredging up stuff from 14+ yrs ago that may or may not have happened. So difficult.

@BlankTimes thank you so much for the Pre-history Guys recommendation. I really enjoyed that video and will look at more. There's something so magical about those sites and the footage of the moon over the standing stones!

Craftycorvid · 09/02/2025 22:33

@speakout I’m so glad the surgery has gone well. My word, but your mum clearly cannot bear the attention to be elsewhere, can she? It all sounds wearying and absolutely galling. Sending strength.

speakout · 10/02/2025 09:29

Your support and understanding mean the world to me dear friends. x
Thanks for your well wishes. I am in a better head space now, and giving little thought to my mother. I could understand if she had some cognitive decline, but this type of behaviour has always existed- even when I was a child.
I hope to venture out today maybe a local ALDI, a change of scene would be nice, OH will drive me there- even the drive would feel good. although I had better take my Jackie O sunglasses, things look very bright out there and my eyes still feel gritty and sore.
Have a wonderful day sisters,I can feel the love and healing energy that you send. X

OP posts:
quirkychick · 13/02/2025 13:39

@speakout I think your Jackie O sunglasses sound a good call, always great to glam up ALDI. I wore similar when I scratched my cornea (I have dry eye and rubbed it in my sleep, ridiculous injury). I hope you're mending well and you're in my thoughts when I'm lighting my candles.

@BlankTimes thank you so much about the Prehistory Guys recommendation, I'm really enjoying their videos. I do like the way they discuss things. I'm finding Neolithic history and monuments fascinating. There's something so awe inspiring about them, our ancestors were so much more sophisticated than many people think.

speakout · 13/02/2025 16:53

quirkychick thanks, I am smiling at the idea of glamming up for Aldi, my DD bought me some gibbitz for my crocs, so I am half way there.

I am just back from a one week check with my surgeon. The results are truly astounding, I can read the bottom line of the smallest chart he has, my distance vision is now better than 99.9% of the population.
The discomfort has gone, and I am just at a stage of being awestruck by the beauty of our world- having been very shortsighted since a teen this is all new territory for me, as if another dimension has opened up to me- it's very exciting.
I still need to take things easy for a while, although I can shower and wash my hair now, but there are internal structures that need to heal. The lens capsule needs to shrink, and new tissue grow to hold it in place. The new lens has "arms" which embed themselves into my iris muscle, and that too takes time.
But so far I am delighted by the outcome.
My thoughts now turning to my craft, my work, but all at a slow pace, lots of tea, lots of sleep. lots of healthy food.

Bright Blessings dear sisters.

Heavens! Has it corrected your short sight?!?!?!. That would be wonderful. Speaking as someone with severe myopia.
so glad you are feeling better and seeing our wonderful world anew.

speakout · 13/02/2025 19:01

FizzingAda · thanks for your support. x

Yes correcting for myopia is one of the aspects I wasn't considering, I thought it would be a case of clearing out the cloudiness and replacing with a synthetic lens.
But each lens is made to order to correct myopia, and I have gone from -6.5 to perfect eyesight, needing no glasses at all. So an amazing bonus!

OP posts:
FizzingAda · 13/02/2025 19:36

Wow, I didn't know they could do that, amazing. What a joy!

Hedjwitch · 14/02/2025 08:59

Wonderful news @speakout and a reminder to us all to enjoy our bright and beautiful world.

LostInAMist · 14/02/2025 13:54

Hello sisters 👋 hope you are all doing well. @speakout it's great to hear you are healing nicely, I'm envious of your lack of need for glasses now, especially in this wind and rain! I can't see with or without in this weather! I agree with what @Hedjwitch said, it is a remind for us all to stop and look at the beauty of nature, even is it shows that the wind and freezing rain have flattened all your newly emerging bulbs 🙈
Bright blessings to all

quirkychick · 14/02/2025 14:13

@speakout that's amazing that the surgery corrected your myopia too. And a great reminder to appreciate the nature around us, thank you @Hedjwitch. I always think winter has mysterious, bleak beauty, especially some of the misty fogginess we have had of late here.

speakout · 14/02/2025 14:21

I love the bleak beauty of winter too- the starkness, dramatic skies and freezing temperatures. I need to clear some dead things from my small patch to let the sprouts see the sun, but no rush today.
My surgeon has given me the go ahead to resume yoga- even inversions and forward folds, I texted him this morning as I forgot to ask at my appointment.
I am stunned, but he assured me that it is perfectly safe. Eight days after surgery! I had assumed it would be 4-6 weeks, but apparently not!
I have booked some classes, but I need to build up my confidence a little I think, so I will be taking all the easy options.

I have a woman's "self love" circle tonight, I am looking forward to it, a chance to dig deep and heal.

The first seeds have germinated. Feel joyful

Any Witches here? Part 20
LostInAMist · 14/02/2025 20:46

@Hedjwitch what are you sprouting? I've yet to plant mine. I currently have loads of larkspur and foxglove young plants in the potting shed from an autumn sowing, I'm looking forward to when they can be planted out!

Hedjwitch · 14/02/2025 22:27

This is basil. I never have any success with it from seed but trying again. Have loads more seeds still to sow: comfrey, calendula, cosmos,st johns wort,larkspur,nasturtium...

speakout · 15/02/2025 08:25

How lovely to see these seeds sprouting, bringing us messages of hope and resilience.
Your plans sound exciting Hedjwitch,- keep us posted on the progress- basil is one of the many herbs I don't have much success with. Do you transplant outside?
The growing season is a bit shorter here, and even indoors herbs like basil and coriander tend to bolt.
I attended a lovely women's circle last night, very healing, soft supportive energy. We had cacao, Oracle card time and circle talk, followed by a sound bath. I floated home and slept like a log.

quirkychick · 15/02/2025 13:47

How exciting @Hedjwitch I only have basil on the windowsill, bought as a plant. I've swapped my bulbs out for basil with coriander in the kitchen. Now dd2 is in residential, I'm planning to add houseplants too, as she wouldn't tolerate them (she had minimalist ocd tendencies). I've bought a weeping fig, but am going to start getting more. I feel we're trying to reclaim the house after all the carers over the summer and autumn.

Craftycorvid · 15/02/2025 19:39

Lovely to see the sprouting seeds and fresh energies. @speakout being able to see so much more clearly sounds wonderful.

speakout · 16/02/2025 08:48

I am glad everyone is enjoying the coming of spring- it is such an exciting time.

I am aghast at the number of huge cobwebs adorning every corner of my house, spiders are always welcome in my home, but most of these webs look old and uninhabited. I have only just noticed them- one drawback of having amazing eyesight now! I will wrap a broom with a cloth and tackle them. I also didn't realise my kitchen cupboard doors and corners were so grubby!.
I am resisting the temptation to deep clean the whole house, it's still early days and my body still has healing to do, dust and cobwebs are trivial compared to the joy of a new colour filled world that has opened up. This is a pic of my woman's circle on Friday. a temporary altar with roses and Oracle cards.

Have a magical day sisters.

That picture looks so cosy and inviting. A women's circle sounds lovely, there's nothing like that round here. Cobwebs galore in my house too, forever a losing battle! I don't mind the spindly spiders that live in most of them, they do a great job of keeping the bigger ones at bay (DH is a bit nervous of them!) and keep pests down on my houseplant jungle.
Bright but blowy here today, so blowing the mental cobwebs away! Still battling a hoof abscess with girl horse, it just won't give in 😢 trying to bandage to hold a poultice on in this wind is a challenge! DH is bravely attempting to put up the bulk load of bird boxes we've bought ready for nesting season, but I think he may abandon it for today soon. Our honeybees are all sensibly snuggled up and munching on their winter stores, so I may follow their lead for the rest of today until it's time to change a poultice again!
Bright blessings all
