I guess that is the point- the Bible is a meditation aid. It should and will be interpreted differently by each and every person reading it. It’s no good taking someone else’s interpretation, because like all good meditation it is a reflection of yourself. Listen to others interpretations all you are hearing os reflections of them.

Religion is the enemy of spirit and faith.

Plenty of evidence that the Bible is a work of fiction

That website is seriously something else.

@StopStartStop
Thankyou for sharing, I know the thread was posted weeks ago, but have only just started reading it. Your experience is so reassuring, I hope I see that heavenly light too. Thankyou again. Happy Easter!

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 08/04/2023 10:04

It appears from the quiz that I would get into heaven. However, I think the idea of heaven and hell is a lot of utter nonsense so I'm not worried about ending up there by mistake.

bossonext · 08/04/2023 11:47

Hope not.

Someone asked about my NDE.

I was ill, ready to accept death.
I saw heaven - very traditional, cloud-like walls, and a gate. Thought I'd curl up like a dog or cat by the wall, and be perfectly happy there for eternity.
Was pulled through the wall by an unseen force. Found myself in a garden - very simple, just grass with edges, like the verges at the side of suburban roads. (Didn't say my NDE would be exciting...😂)

Was able to run (I'm old and fat, I don't usually run) along the road though the surface was knee-deep cloud. I ran towards the light.
The light managed to be both white and gold in colour (not in patches, all at once) and gave great warmth. The light was also the sense of absolute bliss, peace, joy. Knowing that everything about you is known, understood, you are completely and utterly loved. Knowing that this is true of everyone, no matter what they've done.
The light asked me one question, "Is there anything left that you need to do?"
I answered honestly "I think my daughter still needs me." (She was already adult).
Immediately I was back in my body.
The sense of loss was immeasurable, shocking, devastating. That stayed with me, perhaps for two years.
It made me less afraid of dying (but not completely unafraid because the way to death is often painful).
It made me less judgemental, more relaxed about my own religious observance, more willing to love people at a distance, even more confident that positive thoughts and prayers will actually help people.

I think it's my role/duty to share my experience when asked. I don't ask anyone to believe it.

This is so fascinating, thank you for sharing. You had the impression that this place was where everyone could end up, regardless of whether they followed a specific religion?

StopStartStop · 11/04/2023 06:13

Everyone. Regardless of background, or actions in life. There was complete knowledge - of everything a person had done and why - and complete, amazing love.

Why?

Because heaven and God as imagined by the people on that horrible homophobic website sound shite, and I'm not a fan of the idea of eternal life anyway.

But that’s prob not representative of the afterlife. If heaven exists where else would you rather go in the afterlife

God no, I'm a total Heathen.

For all those saying it looks from the other quiz like they're going to Heaven, try this one:

It's a much more simplified version.

@StopStartStop What gave you that impression if you don't mind me asking? Did you meet with Jesus?

That's really beautiful. I suppose the concept of there being a deity, of whatever description, with all-encompassing knowledge, means that there is thereby a knowledge and understanding of why everyone has done whatever they have done. Makes me wonder about the intersection of religion and human society, and whether it's true that humans are the ones who have, along the way, added the "rules" and prospect of punishment as a means of control, when actually, the love, forgiveness and understanding is the real part.

Bit of a waste of time, having questions that don't count and don't really apply to many people anyway.

But anyway, no. According to this American evangelical preacher I'm not going to heaven. 🤷‍♀️

Don’t worry - heaven and hell are just scaremongering tactics to try and get people to comply!

Vincitveritas · 12/04/2023 15:38

Forgot to say happy Easter!

I'm going to further annoy ShodanLives by quoting another American Evangelical Pastor - Jimmy Evans. He describes what he imagines Heaven might be like (pointing out it might not be biblically correct). It's along the same lines as my thinking too. I've cut small bits out but didn't want to lose too much, so sorry in advance for the length:

"...So, you go into God's presence in Heaven (in my version) and worship Him with a perfect voice with Heaven's music, which is a thousand times better than any music you've ever heard before. You're in the very presence of God - where there's fullness of joy - you're not in a church or a sanctuary. Your heart is exploding with happiness. You stay there for a million years and you never get tired, distracted or bored. After a million years in God's presence you decide to go with some friends and family to eat at the banquet table in paradise. You're waited on by angels and eat the most unbelievably delicious food for 15,000 earth years, while you're having incredible conversations and fun with everyone. You never gain weight, feel full, get sick or need the bathroom. Then you decide to go back to your mansion and have a family reunion. You tell one of the angels to gather your family. One second later you're in your mansion, which is set in 500 acres of paradise, and your relatives begin arriving. The angels have everything perfectly prepared and they serve you and your family for 3,600 earth years. You eat, play games, have fun, talk about memories. No one gets their feelings hurt, says or does anything hurtful, everyone is mature, sensitive to each other, godly and very loving and affectionate to one another. There are no ants, insects, you never get a sunburn, no one gets injured, you never need money and everything you want is immediately served by the angels. At the end of the family reunion someone suggests you go on an adventure so you and a group of friends and relatives take a 14,000 year journey to explore the earth. There are no wild animals, you can get anywhere you want to go immediately, the world is a paradise and there is thrill after thrill that is beyond description. You can climb the highest mountain without getting fatigued, you can swim in and under the water for a hundred years and never tire and there are no sharks or dangers. There are no deserts or bad places on the earth. There's no place for any bad thing - nothing bad has ever happened - it's a new earth, the old earth of sin and corruption is gone. At the end of your adventure on earth everyone is thrilled and excited. Someone says they were exploring the universe with a group of friends recently and they found a galaxy 300 million light years away that was really cool, so you all agree to go and one second later you're there. For the next 30,000 years you explore that galaxy and it's stars together as you share great experiences and see things that are beyond description. Everything you see is different from anything you've ever seen before and incredibly fun and interesting. After this you decide to go back home and visit the Hall of Pavilions where you meet all the heroes of the Bible. All the original 12 disciples (not Judas, but Matthias) have their own pavilions, as well as the Apostle Paul, Mary the mother of Jesus, King David, Daniel, Esther and all the others. In each pavilion you personally meet each character and spend time talking to them and getting to know them. Also, in each of their pavilions there's a 3D movie of what actually took place in their areas of the Bible...You stay in the Hall of Pavilions for 40,000 years. After this you have a strong desire to be in God's presence and worship Him again, so one second later you're all in God's presence. As you're worshipping God, He looks at you and smiles; just then you realise that an angel has you by the hand leading you towards God's throne. Suddenly you find yourself face to face with God and for 100 years He personally loves you and gives you affection, as He speaks words of affirmation to you. When you're finished, you return to your place and worship Him for 7 million more years...then some friends invite you to eat at Heaven's banquet table - and so on and so on and so on (forever)."

As an aside, here's a brief description of the different Christian denominations for anyone who might be a bit confused by it all:

What have I just taken part in?

Feuillemille23 · 12/04/2023 18:07

God this brings back memories of the Hungry heart campaign coordinated by all the mad religious groups when I was an undergraduate. People who had ignored me all year suddenly sidling up at breakfast in an attempt to convert me. Apparently there was a league table and the halls of residence with most converts got God points or something....

Judging by most prominent Christians I've encountered or know of, I'd rather not end up in heaven thanks. An eternity with the likes of Rees Mogg and half the Tory party isn't my idea of heaven.

Give me a fun loving honest pagan or two any day....!

StopStartStop · 12/04/2023 18:11

@StopStartStop: What gave you that impression if you don't mind me asking? Did you meet with Jesus?
I received that impression from being in the presence of God, whom I did not see as a figure but only as light, knowledge and love. I was aware of angels, too, though I didn't see them (they were behind the light). I did not see Jesus, though I have seen Him on other occasions.

Vincitveritas · 12/04/2023 23:55

@OMG12 You're welcome 😊

@PollyThePixie Thanks for stopping by!

@Feuillemille23 Haven't heard of Hungy Hearts, it all sounds a bit disingenuous to me.
I'm sure there are also quite a few Christians in the Labour Party, Lib Dems, Greens etc etc. and a lot of us know how to have fun too. 😉

@StopStartStop Thank you. I am interested though in how you make sense of the following Bible verses in relation to your experience?

Matthew 7:13-14, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

John 14:6, "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Acts 4:12, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

John 3:36, "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them."

1 Timothy 2:5-6, "For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people."

1 John 5:12, "Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life."

I am not bound by the Bible, or by any verses committed to print by men. I don't have to assess my actual spiritual experience based on rules laid down by anyone else. Like every human being, I stand in direct relation to God. There are many roads to God, the distance is not far - as the Muslims say, He is 'closer than the veins in your neck'.

Ask yourself 'Who is claiming ownership of the path to God, and why?'
