85-99% range. However, not good enough 'as all our righteousness is like filthy rags in God's sight'. Ah well.

OMG12 · 23/03/2023 11:24

Isn’t that just deaths in battle though. - and as always statistics only show a small part of the story.

AnorLondo · 23/03/2023 11:28

Still nothing to suggest that we're all going to hell in a handbasket as the OP claims/hopes.

@Parker231 Not my world, not my rules.

@pointythings I started a thread with a Christian theme, on the topic of Heaven. It shouldn't come as a surprised when I start talking about things from a Christian perspective. All the 'do what thou wilt' and relativism is leading society down a dangerous path and away from God. It's the duty of Christians to highlight that and warn people - if that comes across as arrogant, then so be it.

@Hawkins003 Is this about the aliens again? In some ways Jesus disapproved of man made, man-centric organised religion so maybe that's a possibility!

@AnorLondo I wasn't threatening anyone, the subject came up so I addressed it. This thread is supposed to be about Heaven.

To be fair, there are ways that society is going backwards. For example Uganda is about to pass some extremely anti-gay laws. It must be thr lack of Christianity, after all they're only about 80% Christian...

It’s probably not going backwards, people assume time is linear, that things will just keep moving forward. Society moves in cycles, things change for a certain period of time then history repeats itself. What we often see as progress is only progress from certain perspectives and often ends up reprising past patterns anyway. If it wasn’t Christianity it would be some other belief system

I always presumed Christianity was against being with the same gender ? Or is that old testament bibles ?

The mainstream Christian church has largely peddled this to ensure inheritance and bolster numbers to the max.

Vincitveritas · 27/03/2023 10:27

@Parker231 I added you by mistake, the link was around God’s so called ego. Nobody is forcing you.

God does have an ego unless there are chaos gods that god is trying to prevent us from worshipping.

@Hawkins003 Yes, that's pretty accurate actually. The chaos 'gods' are not gods as such but demonic entities. The Bible makes it clear who is running the show here on earth, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12. "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient." Ephesians 2:1-2.

@watmel Nice try, but I wasn't talking about war, although if Putin, Xi and yhe rest have their way that may well all change very soon!

@AnorLondo Once again, hope is not a word I would use in this context.

@fireflown No idea what's happening in Uganda with regard to gay rights but it's no secret that the problems in parts of Africa mostly stem from deeply corrupt leadership.

@OMG12 Sorry, but your theories are really muddled and I'm struggling to make sense of them.

Any vicars/priests/curates/pastors or fellow Christians reading - I know you're out there! Please feel free to join in the discussion.

I have issues that Christians come after atheists but do not question that their god essentially condemns entire countries such as China to hell based on their standards.

You know your God is so merciful into he isn't anymore. You know just casually boiling small children alive in the afterlife making is so they can never die or feel relief from their pain and torture. Their crime? Being born in a non-christian country.

Yep. This is healthy and normal thinking patterns.

@DaughterOfGaia I hope you don't mind, but I saw your post on another thread and thought I'd reply here.

Before I start, it's important to point out that this is only one angle and as the Bible is fairly quiet on the topic, I could be wrong.

I believe that God's mercy extends to the innocent. That would include all children under the age of accountability (which is thought to be around 13 or 14) regardless of their background or upbringing. As far as I'm concerned, there are no children in Hell. I also believe the same is true of those who are severely mentally disabled and also anyone who has not had the opportunity to hear the gospel in life. Again, this is extra-biblical so we have to be careful, but from the NDEs I've heard there might just be a chance for someone to turn to God between the moment their heart stops and clinical brain death.

Church numbers in the UK have continued to drop - I don’t know anyone who goes. I’ve only ever been for weddings, funerals and some school visits.
In the southern US states church attendance is high - it’s like a cult. It’s thanks to the pressure from these churches that women in the US lost on the ability to have a say over their own body from Roe v Wade.

Vincitveritas · 27/03/2023 11:08

Why - it’s a major issue for women and regularly spoken about in the context of religion. Similar problem by the church with same sex marriages.

Can you expect to go to Hell if you have an abortion?

pointythings · 27/03/2023 12:16

@Vincitveritas you really do need to read up about the situation in Uganda, because much of what is being done over there is being done in the name of your god. The death penalty for gay sex, no less.

If there were a god, they'd bloody do something to stop it.

Yes (although interest in spirituality appears to be growing - second hand book prices in certain spears are going through the roof😂).

I do know a few people who attend church- although mainly waving hands in air type of services and a few old people who go to more trad services. I like the ritual of the trad services (but then I’m a ceremonial magician so I’m big of smells and bells).

in the US, religion and politics are so intertwined it’s a massive issue for women’s rights and increasingly children’s rights. The Temple of Satan are doing a great job fighting these issues.

But according to Christian doctrine unbaptised children are the inheritors of original sin so therefore cannot enter heaven, Baptism cleanses away original sin,

St Augustine was very clear unbaptised babies went to hell. Although this was later changed to limbo (until Catholics decided limbo didn’t exist recently). But sin (original or not) separates us from God (or we are cast out from Eden) so therefore, according to established Christian Doctrine unbaptised babies cannot enter heaven (see Dante’s take in the Ist circle of hell).

You don't know what's happening in Uganda, but are able to state with certainty why it's happening?

pointythings · 27/03/2023 16:14

You see, original sin is also a concept I have a massive issue with. It isn't my fault Eve ate the sodding apple, ok? I wasn't there. Not me, guv. That would be like holding me responsible if my mum robbed a bank.

Well, of course how the Church teaches it it makes literally no sense, esp when you look at Ezekiel 18 which states no son will be punished for the sins of his father. But that’s what happens when you nick a load of stories from other cultures over quite a long period of history and stick them together in a book.

Really the garden of Eden thing was for the good of humanity and the experience of god. It was necessary. There’s a great meme about it.

Sin doesn’t exist - it’s just another concept to try and scare people into religious compliance
