I was thinking to go to Northumberland for a couple of days as I have a friend there....plus I want to see if there's anywhere left that's not overpopulated!

the garden is another reason to go, though the fug is still not lifting for me, gah.

speakout · 31/07/2022 17:50

Fuggy here too EmmaH2022. Has been a little challlenging the past few days.
I agree Northumbria is an amazing place to visit, miles of unspoilt coastline, Alnwick Castle, where Hogwarts scenes were filmed. Lots of folklore of witches and magical happenings, and lindesfarne - the first settlement to be raided by Vikings, the island can be crossed via a causeway at low tides- a great place to explore.

EmmaH2022 · 31/07/2022 18:28

speakout I actually meant the mental fug around me!

but yes, horrible hot humid weather in London, which is trapped by the flat. Went to a good green space yesterday but bus ride was grim and actually ground level, even surrounded by trees, wasn't as much better as you'd think.

VioletCharlotte · 31/07/2022 19:06

Northumbria is on the my list of places I'd like to visit. When I was child, there was series of books I used to read that were set there, and I've always felt drawn to it. Kilder water looks like it would be a great place to stay, and the observatory there looks fascinating. Alnwick gardens look interesting too.

I've had a fabulous weekend, I went to a womens' circle yesterday. It was held on some land that is used for forest schools and similar, in a secret clearing, shaded by a majestic oak tree. We drank cacao, journeyed, danced, sang, played musical instruments, talked and laughed so much. It was wonderful to feel free of any responsibility for a few hours and just be in the company of like minded women. My entire being feels revived and ready to take on the week ahead.

mothernaturesdaughter · 31/07/2022 21:27

Hi @Fashiontatts I completely get what you mean about feeling in tune with nature, your art sounds beautiful.

@speakout your upbringing sounds quite similar to mine, mine was the early 00’s but in a really rough area and lots of trauma in my family that meant parenting wasn’t the best. We couldn’t afford much water and at one point there were 7 of us in a 2 bed and we’d all share bath water. My family are Irish immigrants so religion was definitely a huge part of our lives. But coming from something like that to where I am now sometimes feels like I’m living someone else’s life, like you, not a day goes by where I don’t reflect on how lucky I am

@Elphame the Welsh mythology sounds so interesting

@VioletCharlotte oh wow that sounds so wonderful! I have a mothers blessing way soon I’m really excited about that but I would love to create a womens circle near me.

We watched the football today and it has gave me a lot to reflect on. Hearing about how only a few years ago stadiums were turning down womens matches is unbelievable. My younger sisters were there to watch it and they’re both huge football fans and play themselves. It’s wonderful that they were both able to witness the lionesses win the euros. I’ve been sobbing a lot, it’s such a lovely atmosphere and so different to the mens games. It just shows how incredible it can be when women work together.

speakout · 31/07/2022 21:31

VioletCharlotte I often read you mentioning your women's circle, you seem to benefit and find community and perhaps healing.
I have an opportunity to attend one this week- a full moon circle. The centre is in deep countryside, and hold regular events, but I am not sure what to expect.
Or anyone else who has attended a circle?
Would I need to bring anything? What should I wear? It will be outdoors unless bad weather, there is indoor space too.

EmmaH2022 · 31/07/2022 22:08

Just a quick note on the football

as most of you know, I'm thoroughly sick of where I live

but tonight, being able to see the Wembley arch lit up for the women's victory is terrific. I normally complain you can see that thing from the moon! 😂

Violet glad you enjoyed the gathering.

Fashiontatts · 01/08/2022 08:03

@mothernaturesdaughter thank you... I've always loved art, even tho I have zero artistic ability myself! But I've built up quite the eclectic collection over the years! Love to be able to appreciate other peoples gifts.

Interesting to read previous threads re altars... I've always had little collections of important things in strategic places but never really made the connection until reading, it's obviously something I've done unconsciously. Although, my usual bedside setup has had to be moved into a drawer lately due to a v curious toddler!

VioletCharlotte · 01/08/2022 09:59

Lammas blessings sisters.

Blessed Lammas friends. May your harvests be abundant.

Thank you for the new thread speakout 17! Incredible to how how much wisdom, support and magic has been shared since you shared your first post here. I’m so very thankful that you did x

Any Witches Here?- Part 17.
VioletCharlotte · 01/08/2022 10:08

Speakout sounds wonderful, do go along if you can. I was a little apprehensive about what to expect as it's the first circle I've been to with this group (the one i used to go to find her as the leader moved away). Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, no judgement, just kindness, support, understanding and a desire just to be with other women.

The group leader should tell you what to bring with you, but usually it's something to sit on, like a yoga mat or a rug, a cushion, bottle of water, a journal and pen. Often you're invited to being an offering for the fire, so maybe flowers, petals, leaves, etc, and some light snacks for afterwards.

Do you know if you'll be served Cacao? If so, you should avoid caffeine before the event and drink plenty of water. Cacao is fabulous, it's a gentle, heart opening plant so makes you feel very relaxed and full of joy.

We also used sunflower essence, which is brilliant for building confidence and self esteem, I bought a bottle so I can continue to work with the energy at home.

Do let me know how you get on 😊

Retsina24 · 01/08/2022 16:22

Tentatively creeping in to say hello.
I'm currently on page 22 of thread one and will be heading back there to read through all the threads to catch up.
I'm so excited to have found this and hope it's OK for me to join in the chat.

Back in 2012 I became very interested in paganism, wicca, witchcraft etc and did lots of reading and exploring. I love crystals and genuinely have felt comfort and benefit from wearing or carrying specific crystals at different times and for different purposes. I'm interested in tarot though I don't think it's any more for me than interest, I certainly don't feel that it's instinctual for me unfortunately. Over the past few years since my second child was born I've found myself entrenched in work, life etc and have got out of the way of my previous practises. I've stumbled across this thread and am determined to get back to positive habits.
I'm genuinely loving reading through the old thread and feel both comfort and excitement.
I experimented a little with some spells years ago and would love to get back to to this. I love poetry and always wrote little verses and used candles for my efforts.

While I go back and read through, I wonder if anyone has any advice, if it's OK to ask. We go on our first family holiday abroad next week. My eldest son is often anxious (he hasn't said he's worried about flying but I secretly wonder how he will react to it) and my husband is a very nervous flyer. What can I do to help them.
Any crystal suggestions? Other thoughts? I'd be so grateful for any help.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

X

Trenzalor · 01/08/2022 16:51

Welcome @Retsina24 ! Believe it or not, I’m still reading old threads - it takes a while to catch up!

I don’t know about stones specific for flying, but howlite is very good for anxiety and stress. A nice piece to hold and rub may work well? The original Bach flower remedy is also very good.

Retsina24 · 01/08/2022 16:57

Thank you. There's a shop near me that sells crystals so I'll have a wander in and see if they have howlite or what else they've got. I was looking at the bachs flower remedy... Is it suitable to use with children (age 9)?
X

queenrollo · 01/08/2022 18:25

@Retsina24 yes the Bach Rescue Remedy is suitable for children, though they may not like the taste of the essence much so I give my 9 year old the pastilles instead. I think they come in two flavours.

A quiet Lammas here though rather fittingly the farmer has started harvesting the field right next to my house today.

Retsina24 · 01/08/2022 19:13

Thanks @queenrollo I'll have to have a look. Small town so not many shops and only the drops on the shelves. Will Google for the pastilles. Hope you've enjoyed your Lammas. Sometimes quiet is perfect. X

GaeasDaughter · 02/08/2022 00:08

Is anyone else having problems with MN? I got logged out of my old account and because I used a disposable email I had to create a new account. I’m a bit annoyed that I’ve lost my old username😟.

Blessed Lughnasadh

@EmmaH2022 wow I bet it was amazing seeing that.

@Fashiontatts haha yes I love art but am awful at it myself too. I wish I was artistic it’s such a great talent

@Retsina24 welcome 🤗 could any essential oils interest you? When I was flying I created a little oil mixture to calm myself down.

We’ve had a wonderful lughnasadh. We baked some bread earlier and then checked our homestead and thanked Lugh for the harvest. We then had an impromptu sun dance🥰. I’ve read a couple of books to the boys and then this evening we had a little campfire. I’m extremely excited for tomorrow as it is the day of the Veela’s so we will leave some honey and sweet bread for them. One of my favourite things about this way of life is how many celebrations there are it means there’s always something to look forward to.

I’ve been feeling a bit nervous about my upcoming birth and welcoming a new life into our family so I’ve done some fire meditation especially for pregnancy and I feel a lot better. Hoping to get some sleep tonight.

Retsina24 · 02/08/2022 06:52

That sounds lovely @GaeasDaughter.
Essential oils are a fab idea. Off to Google and search through my books but any suggestions for combinations gratefully received x

speakout · 02/08/2022 07:08

Wonderful to hear of the lughnasadh. and Lammas festivals.
I have spent the past few days having deep dives into some of my inner workings, psychological schema, habits and ways of thinking that are hindering my growth. Yesterday was a breakthrough day in a way, I was able to have clarity on a situation and although work to do I think I have found opportunities ahead.
Violetcharlotte thanks for the encouragement surrounding the women’s circle, the one near me is next week, on the full moon. I will take myself along, I am seeking guidance and healing right now.
I read with interest about how many of us feel we have no artistic ability.
I have heard lots of people say this in real life too.I makes me a little sad that women ( because it is nearly always women) deride themselves in this area.
I blame schools to some extent, many have a huge emphasis on line drawing, and realistic representations in order to find the few children they can push though exams easily.
Art is so much more than an ability to draw. And the creative juice that fuels art
also seeps into cooking, home decoration, make up and hair, our gardens, choice of outfits and jewelery, our sacred spaces and altars, grimoires, handwriting, photography, craft, knitting and knotting, crochet and sewing using IT to produce amazing things.
Who hasn’t helped a child paint or make an autumn collage- and see how proud our little ones are of their work. That joy of creativity that is unblemished, raw and unconstrained, young children have no concept of whether they are “good” at art, the question is quite redundant to a two year old.

As time passes others start to judge, or worse we start to judge ourselves.
Line drawing (probably the biggest fear) is often the tag we use to judge but is only a small part of visual creativity. Even line drawing can be learned though- and a lot of art is about technique that is simply information.
Redefine your judgement- you may have amazing colour sense, able to blend nuanced or bold tones to spectacular effect. You may have a skill for paper folding or origami, a huge attention to detail and an eye for symmetry.
Perhaps working in 3D is your thing, get some clay and have a try, build with wood, try or decoupage, paint and glam up some old shoes with spray paint and beads.
Creative juice flows though us all, we all have artistic ability..
Bugger the rules.

Fashiontatts · 02/08/2022 08:38

Hi @GaeasDaughter pity about your old username...!
Sounds like you had a fab lughnasadh though 🙂
I'll admit i forgot what day it was, even though I was looking at festival dates the other day... but I also baked little oat and carrot breads yesterday with my little ones... must have subconsciously remembered haha! I've so much to learn but it seems like a lot of things do come naturally if you're in tune so that's good to know.

Oh it's tough to think about such a big adjustment... I hope you slept after your meditation. When is your little one due? I had another little blessing arrive in Feb and it was the best thing to happen to us all. I had my fave essential oils and stones with me in the Hospital bag and then my beside when we got home and everything was calm and went perfectly... Anything like that which would help you?

Funnily enough, my two kids have birthdays that are quite cool dates... my daughter was born on the winter solstice (21/12/19) and my son on 2/2/22... gonna be special kids I think! 🤍

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2022 08:46

I think that association you pinpointed Speakout is why i dislike the words art and arty. I am creative and crafty. I knit, sew, embroider, quilt, crochet, weaving, spin, garden, make salves and balms, cook and adapt recipes. Can't draw, kinda want to want to draw, but as far as traditional artist crafts photography is the one that pulls that i have not yet dedicated the time to. But I am crafty not an artist.

It has been an odd few days. Pretty much slept 36hrs straight. As much as the sleep was needed to nuture my body, it is now craving nutrition and caffiene. And I now have a 101 things to catch up on, in a month with very tight, workload heavy deadlines.

Fashiontatts · 02/08/2022 08:47

Morning @speakout ... you are of course 100% right, there's far more to art than typical line drawing that people associate with it. I think you're right about it being taught in schools... To be honest, almost everything I am drawn to or like is anything but typical line drawings - but you're right when you say the association with being artistic sits with the ability to draw.

I'll take a minute to take stock of my own artistic abilities... I love to cook and a good cook, I can sing (to a degree!), I love decor and have a beautiful home (in my own opinion haha) and I have a keen eye for fashion.

Thank you. I needed to make that connection 🤍

Glad to hear you managed to work through your situation and have a breakthrough.

The full moon circle sounds amazing and like it's perfectly timed for you, I'm sure you'll have a great time and come away with some guidance.

Fashiontatts · 02/08/2022 08:53

@HillsBesideTheSea you must have needed the sleep... it's so healing. But yeah, lots of caffeine and good food to see you right. Your body has a way of guiding to you what it needs at that time, doesn't it? We just need to listen to them 🙂

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 02/08/2022 10:00

Ohh a new thread! Somehow I missed this.

Just flying into say hello to everyone. I'm on my holidays and I've found a hagstone on the beach. Had anyone ever made one into a necklace?

EmmaH2022 · 02/08/2022 16:50

Gaeas to be honest, it's just part of the furniture for most Londoners I think. We joke you can see it from space. but Sunday night was grand.😍

hope everyone is well. I decided to plan a trip to Alnwick! Have posted on the Holidays board for advice.

I have never found a hagstone, would love to.
