Does anyone know much about the Brethren?

There are plenty of indications that our new neighbours may be part of the Brethren and I suspect that the house has been bought by the church for let to Brethren families.

I'm fascinated by such a different way of life and am really just interested in finding out some more about it all. I'm guessing I won't find any on here due to the restrictions on using internet. we've had a few interesting situations with them so far and it's certainly not the usual neighbour interaction.

Dear poster. I stumbled upon this discussion quite by accident and reading through the comments gave me me much amusement and also confirmed to me how much misinformation there is online. I'm not a brother or a sister nor do I need to have a 'special' phone.
I live in a place where I have had many neighbours and people in the community over the years whom to me at times seem weird , unusual, strange if you like, many different races, faiths, rich and poor but I respect their right to live a life they wish and offer kindness. While I respect everyone's right to free speech I wouldn't ever consider publicly humiliating or condemning online any minority group. Funny world hey!

I worked in a Brethren company... No false information from me here.

My family were in the Exclusive Brethren and I still have many relatives still ' in'. I am also in contact with many people who have chosen to leave or been ' shut up' and eventually kicked out. Whilst there are undoubtedly very many lovely people who have been born and raised in the PBCC, it is undoubtedly a cult because it follows the commands of the elected Man of God( MOG) who unsurprisingly is incredibly wealthy and also because of the way it treats anyone who wants to leave. The stories I could tell but basically husbands and wives kept apart, parents denied access to children, parental alienation as the parent who has left is labelled wicked and worldly. Children and young adults who leave our who are kicked out( for having non approved mobiles/ laptops) who lose house/ job and all contact with friends/ siblings/ parents etc.
This is not mis information as I am living it.

Ooh this is my thread from ages ago.

I have just reread it and really don't think I was ever setting out to humiliate or condemn anyone - I was just really curious about a way of life I didn't understand but had become very aware of.

I actually spared a lot of detail from the post but they were not easy neighbours and I was deeply uncomfortable for a lot of the time they lived next to us, for lots of different reasons.

That particular family moved out - to Australia- at the end of 2021 and the house was then empty for about 18 months - at a time when there was a real housing shortage here.

There is now a new family in - still brethren but totally different vibe - much friendlier albeit with a polite distance.

Did you ever solve the stick conundrum?

We have a teepee sorted of arrangement of sticks by our front door and it sounded incredible similar. I wondered at the time if our neighbours were curious about our large stick collection.

a) It was a joke

b) The funny thing is that everybody knows what goes on in the exclusive brethren, I've seen it for myself working in their homes and schools. They're not fooling anyone, it's a cult.

c) Nobody is being publicly humiliated, this is an anonymous forum and compared to many other discussions on here, VERY tame and respectful

d) the fact you said 'special' phone confirms that you're aware that many exclusive peebs do! Own goal.

Apologies@musicteachersussex

Your response to my post indicates you've had some very bitter experiences with the PB although I did wonder why you continued your employment at the school and went into their homes🤔which of course is none of my business.

Have a nice day 😊

Why post a message like this if you haven't got a vested interest in the Brethren?

I'm intrigued.

You question the motivations of others telling the truth and don't explain why you are so defensive of them?

Hmm.

Nah actually I've had great experiences with the ones I've spent time with! Really great people but sadly very trapped and limited, especially the women, reduced to babymaking machines.

The employment at the school ceased when they removed music from schools globally because it was deemed sinful again. The kids were devastated and I continued to teach many of them in private. Some of the things they told me were chilling.

The bitter experiences I saw were endured by the girls banned from pursuing higher education, forced to wear skirts not trousers, abused, extra digits removed from inbreeding mishaps and sick as parrots because their parents didn't want to take them to worldy doctors.

Don't get me started on the way the kids were told that black people are black because they are unclean, women can't have jobs and that the teacher that got fired for being caught taking a bite of food in front of them accidentally was going to hell!

You're welcome to message me privately and chat about the misconceptions you're trying to disprove, I'm totally up for this - the more people that are able to leave the cult the better

@ShowOfHands no, the sticks all went when the family left. Again, in the middle of the night like when they moved in. The new people just have potted olive trees and very nice cars. Smile

In hindsight, this thread is probably a sign of the times in 2021. I was probably far more aware of the last lot of neighbours as it was the pandemic and I was home so much!

Interesting that it resurfaced 3 years later. Must have been the result of a pretty specific search.

Definitely the result of a very specific search.

Three years ago I was reluctant to tell much but now I'm not directly involved with any of them, some of the stories I can share are hair raising.

There are lots of documentaries on YouTube etc about their practise of shutting people up and shunning them, tearing families apart etc etc and the gross wealth of the MOG

carlycurly · 18/01/2025 21:57

Oh gosh there is definitely money there. Everyone who visits has one of a fleet of shiny, expensive and silent cars. The wife has an enviable collection of louboutins and amazing outfits for Saturday church.

The dds seem to go to a regular primary. They always have skirts on but all usually wear very short jersey skirts with leggings underneath.

They just seem more relaxed and happy. There was some awful energy about the last family. A haunted feel. I hope things worked out for them.

The ones I worked with had somewhat modernised in the last couple of years.

From being not allowed pets they were keeping chickens

They were watching things on tablets and seemed to know what some memes were. The girls sometimes wore trousers and there was an air of progression

I hope that the cult will collapse and these wonderful intelligent hard working people will be released into the world soon

carlycurly · 19/01/2025 08:35

Yes our last lot had chickens! They made a total racket and occasionally got through the fence and left me eggs in my garden Grin
