Good morning sisters.
It is another beautiful fresh autumn day here. The magpies have already been by, singing until they get their breakfast. I have no laundry left to do – I feel like the Mammy in Derry Girls, scraping around for clothes to avoid doing a half load!
Of course, that will change when DS1 gets home from camp tomorrow (notice how I’m assuming he will actually change some of his clothes
)
Elphame - I get the sense that you are naturally concerned but not unduly worried about this health scare. In my experience, if there was any worry about the nature of the new lump at all, they would have had you in for more testing right away. I understand your concerns about surgery. I’m sure you’ll have a good discussion with your surgeon and anaesthetist before you make any decisions.
Violet - hope everything goes okay for you. Please try to find some time for self-care both before and afterwards. Meditation always helps me get through such things.
Loyaul - that orthopod sounds like a complete dick. Pain is whatever the patient says it is. End of. We all have different tolerances and react and recover differently to procedures. Blank has given you some good advice re monitoring the condition of your leg. Please do seek help if you are at all concerned about it and if you can’t weight-bear, well just don’t. Do you have a follow-up appointment with a physio? If so, follow their advice as they are usually far more clued in than some surgeons about post-op care. If not, make one and get yourself a realistic post-op plan that fits your needs and leg function right now.
Blank - you seem have nailed the character traits of orthopaedic surgeons there! Oddly, DH & I were only discussing them this morning.
I’d be tempted to make a complaint about the surgeon. I am the normally very quiet person who had a stand-up row with the pompous cardiothoracic surgeon who wanted to send my quite clearly round-the-hat rack father (he was trying smoke his oxygen sats probe ffs!) home in a taxi the day before a bank holiday weekend with no community nursing support in place for his chest wound which was pumping out frank pus. It bought him an extra few days of in-patient care that he desperately needed.
I shall light a candle today for everyone, but especially for those who are experiencing health issues. Sending you all positive, healing energy for a restful night.
