Or Wiccans. or Pagans? Or anyone who is interested in a magical path or feels some magical stirrings.

A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration

All welcome.

Blessed Be All
I am a bit lapsed . Been to I'll the last 18 months to practice . Hoping as the new year (Samhain) approaches I can start exploring.

MawkishTwaddle

One of the lovely things about a Pagan path is that there are no "rules" unless you want them.

Many witches make money from their craft. Not all do by spell casting, some may make candles or incense blends or magical oils for instance

I doubt many Tarot readers will do readings purely for charity.

If you are happy with making money from your craft I don't see it's anyone's place to judge.

We may or may not choose to do as you do- but it's a personal decision in my view.

Is there similar restriction on a witch making money from her craft to the one that clairvoyants and similar have?

None whatsoever - witches have always been paid for their skills - not always in money but by barter too. Villagers would leave eggs or butter or other foodstuffs for the local wisewoman in exchange for services rendered. There is a recorded tale of a Welsh cunning man ( a dyn hysbys) charging a village £100 for the removal of a particularly troublesome spirit who had defeated the local vicar and several lesser cunningfolk. That was a staggering amount 150 or so years ago.

If you want to earn a living from your magical skills it is no ones business but your own.

Evening all, just catching up. I've had a lovely day in Glastonbury with my DM. It was such a beautiful day to be there, the sky was blue, the sun was out. As we climbed the Tor, we had a fantastic view of all the trees and the autumnal colours. Feel recharged and invigorated

Very interested in the discussion about dark sides and working with our shadow. Thank you for explaining so well @TooManyPaws I will download the book @Bellecose2 mentioned.

WillowWitch · 03/10/2018 18:46

thank you for the link to shadow work. Timing was perfect for me.

darkriver198868 · 03/10/2018 18:47

@VioletCharlotte I don't live that far from Glastonbury. Haven't climbed the Tor is several years. Glad you had a nice day.

MawkishTwaddle · 03/10/2018 19:40

Thank you for your answers, that's put my mind at rest.

owlshooting · 03/10/2018 21:31

Very interested in the collective unconscious. i think this is why places have a different 'vibe' as they contain the unconscious thoughts and beliefs of the area. I do believe that each one of us influences everyone around us with our thinking. Thoughtforms are a real, tangible thing. They are like clouds containing our collective thoughts and feelings. This is why each one of us needs to be aware of what we are putting out into the ether. No one is an island, literally. We are all connected.

owlshooting · 03/10/2018 21:32

Also, I love Glastonbury. I have been many times. Last time, there were witches everywhere, having open conversations. It was fascinating.

speakout · 04/10/2018 06:49

Glastonbury sounds so interesting. I would love to go someday- it's so far from where I live.

Violet, Glastonbury sounded lovely. Glad it was a good day.

Elphame, I have the Jason Miller booked you linked up thread. It’s a pretty good explanation of how magic works or doesn’t. Certainly, when I read it I could nod along at some of the pitfalls! It’s interesting what you said about the universe recognising a spell even if we aren’t consciously doing one. I had a couple of fairly miraculous occurrences when I was in dire straits a few years ago.

Bellecose2 · 04/10/2018 09:46

@Mawkishtwaddle.... It didn't sound arrogant to me either. I've always paid particular people like tarot readers and I don't begrudge that. Yes, some really awful ones over the years and I should have asked for my money back. However 2 have been outstanding and were responsible for starting me on my spiritual path ( I just couldn't explain their gifts in a rational /scientific sense which made me question my own beliefs) I think that is priceless. If they weren't paid, they'd have to earn a living in some other way and be unable to reach as many people as they do.

Bellecose2 · 04/10/2018 09:57

@boldlygoingsomewhere....Yes, things like that happened to me too. Wish I could list them all to get an opinion from the experienced witches but I can't.

speakout · 05/10/2018 12:39

Glastonbury must be a lovely place to live. I imaging such acceptance of a pagan path.

Unlike my town,
As expected my application to run a stall at a christmas fair very near me has been refused- the third year running.
It's a lovely event in a huge historic building, mulled wine, craft tables, choir singing etc.
I had applied first 3 years ago- along with photos of my items. They included Yule tree decorations, scented candles, winter themed smudge sticks, witchcraft charms, spice and incense blends.

I have been told that my stock is " not in keeping" with the ethos of the fair which "remains" a traditionally christian event and may cause upset to some.

Grr.

The building is not church owned and the fair is not run by the church.
So for the third year a letter of rejection.
As expected.

OP posts:
TooManyPaws · 05/10/2018 13:15

Is it a council-owned building? Would they reject Hanukkah items? Given that paganism is a legally recognised religion in Scotland, they are laying themselves open to a complaint on the grounds of religious discrimination. Have a quiet word with your Councillor.

darkriver198868 · 05/10/2018 13:15

@speakout that's a shame.

Sadly Glastonbury isn't without its own problems. It attracts a lot of people with issues and some of them never deal with it. Recently there has been some Anti Social Behaviour problems and people who work there are consider security things are that bad.

It's honestly better to live outside of the area.

VioletCharlotte · 05/10/2018 13:17

@speakout Glastonbury is lovely and very different from my town too. If had a nice, calm energy about it. Also nice to be surrounded by like minded people 😊 I'd like to live there too.

Such a shame about your Christmas fair, I bet there would be a lot of interest in the things you make. Do you have a website? If so, would you mind sending me the link? Xx

speakout · 05/10/2018 13:20

I guess I could pursue it, but I don't really want to be there if I am not welcome.

Edinburgh which is very close is a very welcoming place for pagans, huge festivals throughout the year run by the Beltane Fire Festival.

Violet I don't have a web site ( yet) I will pm you a link to my ebay shop.

Speakout can they do that? Seems extreme if you have candles and Christmas decorations

speakout · 05/10/2018 17:11

It seems that was the nature of discussion at the comittee meeting- according to one member who told me off the record.

The letters I received have told me that the event is over subscribed, although I did apply in July.

user1457017537 · 05/10/2018 20:21

I think I would consider a solicitor’s letter to the selection committee, I think being passed over 3 years in a row is a bit much. If it is that popular they should hold a ballot just to be fair. I do however have a problem with Councils that are run as personal fiefdoms

speakout · 05/10/2018 20:34

user1457017537
Thanks.

I don't feel I want to fight. It's my community and I don;t want to ruffle feathers.
I actually just applied out of curiosity this year anyway, I am so busy in the run up to Christmas that I wouldn't have had the time anyway.

It has been a learning experience however, there are some people who are not as accepting to a pagan path as we would like.

I remain happily skipping along my own path however!!

OP posts:
user1457017537 · 05/10/2018 21:08

I understand but it just makes me angry how unjust it is. You have much more grace though and are right that it is not worth pursuing!

speakout · 05/10/2018 21:14

user1457017537

You are right, and it saddens me too- but I am not big enough to take on those in the system that don't understand.
I am happier to walk away, and live my life in a positive way.

@speakout

I’m sorry to hear of the prejudice shown towards your application.

But I agree .....pour that energy into yourself and your wonderful gifts rather than in seeking to change the narrow minded.

Shine bright on that merry path. 🌟
