Hanifah · 01/03/2007 16:07

salams Kerelene, my due date is mar14th so 2 wks from yestrday but hopefully sooner rather than later inshallah. thanks 4 d ayah and d advice!

ezridax · 01/03/2007 22:59

Salaams, I'm from Manchester.

Unfortunately my son dictated to me with the whole breast feeding thing. I expressed and put in a bottle and he wouldn't have it. I tried to give him a dummy and he wouldn't have that either, although he'll put everything else in his mouth but those two things.
i have since come to realise that you can get cups for them from 4 months old, he was also cup fed in hospital due to too much weight loss so there are other ways to do it. To tell you the truth i didn't persist that much - he liked BF and i liked BF him

Kerelene i do agree with you with the whole settling thing. My son doesn't know how to settle himself and he co sleeps so at some point i'm going to have to wean him off that.

So i'm still BF (he's 6months)and have found it easier than i thought. I just wear a really big scarf and put him under it to feed whilst out and about.

He is attached to me though, the longest i've been away from him was approx an hour - secretly i think i like it .

InshAllah wil make dua for you hanifah - i think my hubby recited ayat al kursi whilst i was in the 2nd stage of labour.

Hanifah · 02/03/2007 19:14

assalamu alaikum sisters...just wanted to ask abt circumcision again, hav decided inshallah to get baby done early like mayb first 6 wks..was gona go for plastibell method but was just reading info on a clinic dat does it...says needs2be done under anaesthetic, is that how it is?is that ok for such a small baby?anyone any other suggestions, wanna avoid bleeding and stitching but then it has 2 be done so whatevers least painful for baby inshallah. Anyway how is everyone? Im feelin much better alhamdulillah been keeping myself busy and walking(which keeps causing me to get mucousy discharge)my mums coming to stay 2moro inshallah dnt have long left

Nikki76 · 02/03/2007 20:19

Salaams dear

I can't remember what method our Dr used on Yusuf.....but he was left with a plastic ring type thing on his penis - no stitches or anything. That came off naturally within about a week. It healed very well and very fast, ill hamdu illah. I recommend doing it within first 6weeks...do you want me to ring the Dr that did it for Yusuf and ask if he can recommend anyone in London for you?

Yusuf was due 17th May 2006 and he didn't arrive until 24th May....first babies can be quite comfy where they are but I know how you feel - running (waddling in my case!!) to the loo when you feel the slightest trickle and thinking is this it?!!

We used the same method as Nikki and they use a local anesthetic (SP?). Ismaaeel screamed at that point and i felt so cruel . It's funny i don't cry when he has his injections - but i guess i'm there to comfort him.

Isn't it weird how we're all doing the same thing (having a baby) yet we have such different experiences.

I had no discharge or trickling, no BH. I just went into labour and didn't believe it. I was 10 days early and my waters didn't break until I had been in labour for a good few hours. They just popped (oh when you go into labour think about wearing a maternity towel so that you don't 'pop' all over the place)and i promptly threw up more thaan once. That was my que to get to hospital

I'd forgotten to do my belly cast so in early hours of the morning whilst in labour i got my hubby to do it for me. LOL I'm sure that was a sight

Hanifah · 04/03/2007 11:47

salams,so the anaesthetic is ok then!?I remember sum1 before saying u cudnt giv2young baby...anyway inshallah we'll get it done, yeah Nikki if u dnt mind seeing can dr recommend sum1 cos prob better than just picking sumwhere at random, dh said his friend got his son done in our local mosque by plastibell as well. Ezridax 10 days 2 ur due date mashallah...im 10 days away 2day!been getting really stabbing pains low down mayb babys engaging more, going midwife2moro so nshallah shell say everythings ok,not in so much agony anymore, idnt think hes neccessarily posterior...hmm we'll see inshallah, my mums here now which is great taking my mind off things probably wen im least thinking abt it is when it might all just happen...just hope inshallah I dont go beyond due date and hav 2 be induced. Did anyone get internals during the last few weeks2check cervix r just after labor started?

Nikki76 · 04/03/2007 19:38

It was a local not a general, would not have agreed to it if a general was required as I think thats just too risky. DH has the number of the Dr in Birmingham so I will ask him to dig it out for you to call him and ask for recommendations....it takes ages before my nagging has any effect on him so be warned!

Feeling exhausted today..went to a friends of DH's house. They are from Egypt and the poor girl doesn't have any family staying with her - she's worn out and the husband is not being very supportive. He's done two nappies so far (he didn't like the smell apparently!!) and when the baby crying gets too much, he sleeps in the spare room!!

I went up to the bedroom to see the cot etc and found the plastic packaging sheet still on it!! I was horrified as cot death etc and besides, plastic toooo hot to sleep on, even with a sheet on top. So I said this needs to go and explained why but she said her husband wouldn't do it so I said I'll do it for you and she agreed...so sorted it all out, explained she shouldn't really have bumpers or a quilt and then felt really guilty when I left as if I was interfering too much but if you see something that you know is a cot death risk, as a mum, you have to say something cos you just think what if what if?!! Hope they didn't think I was interfering too much

aww dat poor sister,no u were right to say it...dats bit scary, did u put ds in cot straight away?we hav moses basket for now as no room4cot too until rid of basket, lol.i forgot theres diffrnce btween local n general A,thats a huge relief!just got sum weird backache but probly nothing, got myself a birthing ball2day we'l c how much gud datl do lol

Nikki76 · 04/03/2007 20:11

I loved the birthing ball!! bounced away on that for a good couple of hours when first when into labour....so relaxing!

We had DS in a moses basket for a good 6mths as I wanted him in with me...I cried when we no longer used it and put him into his own room! You can always get the cot and put the moses basket in the cot, saves space and that way they get used to the surroundings of the cot...we were lucky though, DS settled into a cot very well - he's pretty good really - bless him!

Hows it going with your mum there?

Niks

Hanifah · 05/03/2007 13:53

hey hun yeah its great havn my mum over, she cnt sit still tho, cleanin everything, itink its her who has the nesting not me lol. yeah im hopin 2 keep ds in moses basket for good few mths, my niece is 4 n half mths tho n shes gettin2big for hers, shud realy start lookin for a cot. Dh has 2 get me pump2day for birthing ball, cnt wait to start on it cos i hate sitting on couch during eve...on my way2midwife now, hope sum news but i doubt it lol

Kerelene · 05/03/2007 14:58

Nikki I think you did the right thing taking the plastic off your friend's cot and giving her some advice. What is that thing that some middle eastern and asian folks have about keeping the plastic wrapping on furniture?! My Algerian friends keep their TV remote control wrapped in clingfilm to keep the dust off. (hope haven't offended anyone with this)

Anisa is still sleeping in our room as we have a one bedroom flat and I can't wait till we have a 2 bed place so she can fidget and chunter away to herself without waking me up in the night!

EZ we had a lot of problems with Anisa not being able to settle herself to sleep and eventually it reached crisis point, we went to a sleep clinic where you get dedicated support from a health visitor and it really helped us, we just gradually reduced the help we gave to settle her, eg stroking in her in cot instead of picking her up - she cried to begin with but it was better than leaving her to cry on her own and it worked.

hanifah sorry still have to check number of sura/ ayat so youl can look it up. I would really recommend tens machine, found it really helped with contractions in earlier labour, once they became too strong i took it off and got in the birthing pool and which was fantastic, never needed any gas and air. The dua helped me to focus it was like pain relief in itself, al hamdulillah

Hanifah · 05/03/2007 16:05

salams guys, cnt wait til im mommies jus like u guys nshallah wont b long, just back frm midwives, babys now 4/5ths engaged and in anterior position (think maybe pain last week was him pushing even further down cos not posterior as other mw said)she said my bumnps huge and its all baby not fluid etc, thinks hell b big baby(argh!)said if i dnt go by 40+5 theyl offer me a sweep and if not by 42 then theyl induce me!

Nikki76 · 05/03/2007 16:07

Yes, that is a tradition, keepping the plastic on things and I was wary of doing it as they probably wanted to keep the matress clean if baby sicked up or something but I just couldn't let it go cos if I had gone home and something had happened, I would have felt like I didn't do my bit.

Am horrified at lack of support some foreign women seem to get from their husbands over here - she's b/feeding almost constantly and so tired and her husband is just so impatient....I felt so sorry for her. I think she was pleased to have me rock him for an hour or so....it makes me mad as he was happy to marry her and bring her over but doesnt seem to want her family here at a time when she needs them most....I've invited her over on Thurs....don't know whether she will come over or not, but getting out will do her good. She told me she can't get out as he's breast feeding too much - I know how that feels - I was like that with DS in the beginning!

Anisa is such a beautiful name, mash'allah. I really love it!!

Hanifah - let me know how you get on at the midwife....fingers crossed!

OP posts:
Nikki76 · 05/03/2007 16:09

Hanifah - oooh sounds promising!! Make sure you take the laptop in the hospital with you and post on here as soon as you have delivered the placenta! lol!

OP posts:
Hanifah · 05/03/2007 16:14

lol i carry my psp wit me all d time to listen to surahs, nasheeds, watch shows, photos, net etc so im sure il hav with me. U knw abt mattress thing can u just get mattress protector 2 go under incase of baby gettin sick etc, think thats wat my sis did, leaving plastic on dats scary. I think back home foreign sisters get great support cos of the women in family/friends etc looking after them for 40 days but when its just them and hubby God lov them. Alhamdulillah for my great dh,lol.

Nikki76 · 06/03/2007 20:26

OP posts:
Hanifah · 07/03/2007 16:11

Went for walk after with mum and bouncing round on my birhting ball just praying Allah will relieve me soon inshallah

Nikki76 · 07/03/2007 23:09

Aww sweetie!! I'm sure Allah will give you your son when he feels its the right time. My DS was born in May last year...7 days overdue so I know what its like....get bouncing on that ball dearie but no sex cos your mum may hear you at it!!! How embarassing would that be! lol

OP posts:
Hanifah · 08/03/2007 17:24

haha i know i wudnt do it now anyway YUCK plus i think i lost my mucous plug dis mornin, been gettn more and more sticky discharge ESP when i walk and then dis morn had one big blobby gunky stringy(2much info)clear thing come out....i thought it was sumtn but my mum said it has to be bloody show, done sum research and asked friends and it doesnt have to have blood in it, although that usually means labors nearer

Nikki76 · 08/03/2007 19:32

I had exactly the same thing - no blood at all but it was my mucous plug...I went into labour not long after and DS made an appearance three days later...so, you could well be on your way!! It is very gunky and gross -like egg white texture! I had the misfortune to pass mine after DH helped me out of the bath as I'd been soaking to ease the niggly pains I'd been getting and I wiped and it all came out and DS was very calm about it but afterwards confessed that it grossed him out!!

Anyway!how is everybody?i got a trickle/small gush 2day but didnt rush2labor ward as had appt few hrs later wit midwife, shud hav known she didnt examine me but sent me2labor ward who sent me to foetal assessment where they were rude and horrible as usual. They said I must have just leaked a little bit of the waters but sent me home, took a swab said a lot of mucous...no one even checked my cervix so have to wait til next mon2see midwife again and see whats goin on,unless i go into labor myself before inshallah. Is it just me or do any of these people have a clue what theyre talking about? I was told babys head was fully engaged now saying a lot left..its getting ridiculous ALLAHU ALIM
