No don't speak spanish but i just liked the sound of 'heyzus'. Went to spain a couple of years ago to c all the Islamic history was beautiful - a well kept secret.

Hubby is somali speaking, inshAllah son will be fluent DH is only speaking to him in somali and so is his family.

JuJuMoo · 26/02/2007 20:42

Salaams, InshAllah my lovelies are all well today :-) Hanifah, tried desperately to find out what sex we were having last time but Ali wasn't confirming and wouldn't reveal himself (pious son that I have lol!) I had a feeling it was a boy but this time both hubby and I are having "girl" feelings so inshAllah we'll have a little pink one :-) I'm thinking of "Maria" (wive of Prophet) or also we like Deena (as in 'Deen') for a boy maybe Amin (hubby's mum is called Amina) or maybe Sami. I'm having first scan tomorrow (dating scan) so make du'aa all will be okay inshAllah. Not long now for you Hanifah, good luck and may Allah swt reward you for your efforts as a mum-to-be :-)

JuJuMoo · 26/02/2007 20:50

Nikki, my hubby is from Iraq, just next door to Syria. He speaks Arabic as first language too, but also Kurdish and this odd Iranian dialect that is just spoken in one area of Iraq next to Iran. Oh, and English and German, he puts me to shame! I only know enough Arabic to say the prayers and the dhikr's (is that the right spelling?) Inshallah, Bismillah, SubhanAllah, EstafaAllah (use that a lot lol!) etc....

We're probably going to Iraq later this year and my Mum is having a fit about the safety aspect but inshAllah we'll be okay.

I work with refugees and I have a few Syrian clients at the moment and they are all lovely. They are all families and insist on making me eat nuts and cakes and sweets and serving that awful sweet tea (hehehe, toooo sweet) before I leave!

I wear hijab alhamduillah even though it makes me look awful and dead-looking but you are all right, its not mean't to make you look lovely lol.

Hope we can all keep in touch and keep this thread going inshAllah. JazakhAllah sisters :-)

Nikki76 · 26/02/2007 20:57

Salaams

I see you are also on the thread about circumcision......quite a hot potato of a topic isn't it!! Showed it to DH and he was like

GOOD NEWS GUYS INSHALLAH INSHALLAH INSHALLAH...felt weird wen praying isha 2day cud barely do sujood and then abt half an hour ago i got mad contraction i dont think it cud b BH's well i hope not inshallah, just went for walk with DH,determined to get another and for it not to go away cos i got one like this the other day and everyone made me think i imagined it but this time it was SO strong and dh felt tummy go rock...so inshallah...I really hope something is starting cos tummy was in bits last nite and just havent felt right last few days...so inshallah bismillah will be going labor ward 2nite r 2moro...pls make dua'a sisters cos i really dont think i can handle anymore, I think somethings been starting for the last few days but maybe my bodys just slow going into labor(ud know iv never had kid before wudn ya lol)...if im in agony with back and tummy again 2nite im going in anyway inshallah cos my friend said if my cervix is in any way ready and im in pain...they might break my waters and induce me INSHALLAH,wud prefer to go naturally but dont care at dis stage

Hanifah · 27/02/2007 17:01

Salams, well i shuda known i was wishing 2 much...went to foetal assessment 2day,was waiting hrs as was packed, then midwife was really smart2me before even checking anything, put me on a monitor and it showed up my contractions so she changed her tune a bit, babys heart beat is fine mashallah...mut my cervix isnt ready!had an internal OUCH, mw thinks the babys back to back which is y so much back pain but im not sure...all my checkups before said he was in anterior position and his heads been engaged ages so unless hes turned!?!anyway so looks like the waiting game for me is still on

Nikki76 · 27/02/2007 20:32

Salaams my dear

You sound really stressed, I know its hard but try not to worry. What I did when I was pregs was just think well this baby will be born when God wills it and that made such a difference to my outlook on things while waiting. I was a week overdue and it does get tiring waiting but as a friend said to me - just enjoy putting your feet up while you can cos you won't when the baby is here lol

OP posts:
Hanifah · 27/02/2007 20:41

wa alaikum salam hun, yeah i feel a bit better after seeing some poor girl there 42 wks preg waiting on a bed 2 b induced, shed been there since 7 n morn and was still in waiting room at 2.30 when we left, made my waiting seem a bit easier. For some reason I thought i could magically dua'a the baby as soon as i wanted, lol,it worked with getting pregnant...but Allah swt knows best, maybe he needs2gain a bit more weight first, hehe. Inshallah the MW on mon will say hes in anterior position though cos heard OP can be a nitemare. Giving up trying and waiting, just gona take paracetemol every now and then, everyone else seems2 so inshallah wont do 2 much harm

Nikki76 · 27/02/2007 20:45

MY DS was OP for the whole labour -they didn't tell me he was that way until near the end and I was wondering why all my labour pains were concentrated in my back!!! I think if I have another baby I'm going to make sure I'm much more informed about what I can/can't do in labour as I think that will be better - although I did read loads before I gave birth, all the stuff that Lulumama says, I didn't even know about - hooray for mumsnet....may even get myself a doula for the next one cos hubby is still traumatised! Mid East men don't like seeing your fanjo in non sex situations! lol!!

OP posts:
Hanifah · 27/02/2007 20:48

haha iknow my hubby says every1tells him not to look i said u bloody better lol. Oh yeah u had c-section was dat cos of Yusuf's position?

Hanifah · 27/02/2007 20:49

some of those books r stupid rnt they, dont even mention post natal bleeding and say stuff like have sex any when ur comfortable, some even a week or 2 after birth...ugh YUCK...i think its much better to talk to people whov had kids cos every experience is different and u learn so much, books go by general rules and looks like there arent really any

Nikki76 · 27/02/2007 20:55

No, part of my womb contracted but didn't go back so it wasn't contracting/expanding like it should have been to push him out so after three days, I was still only 5cms dilated

Nothing to do with his position so please don't worry that it will happen to you. They said when they took him out, that one side of my womb was still contracted up....its quite common apparently but I still have a good chance of a vaginal birth next time, if I have another one so that's good.

Hubby didn't look at my fanjo but that's cos of the c section. He saw them breaking my waters and that made him a bit green!! lol!!

Have to cop myself on and be grateful alhamdulillah

ezridax · 28/02/2007 21:56

Salaams just poppin in 2 say hi. Alhamdulilah that ur all well. InshaAllah ur birth will be easy Hanifah, I didn't really believe labour had started and alhamdulilah everything was txt book.
I was adamant that my DH didn't go below the equator whilst giving birth i want a little bit of mystery about me lol!
Obviously he did witness our son being born he just didn't have a birds eye view.
I'm sorry but i've watched the vids of ppl giving birth and it aint attractive - natural- but not attractive. I'm not sure how much of it i'd have wanted to see -i was a little out of it on gas and air.
I must say that i used a tens machine and i think it did wonders. I also think eating fresh pinapple kicked of my labour (could have been a coincidence)oh and took those raspberry leaf capsules. Most importantly i made dua

Hanifah · 28/02/2007 22:16

salams erzidax, thanks myabe ur right wont force him to look lol, long as hes there inshallah.cnt blv tens actually work!?Im lookn forward2d gas & air but might end up with ep,we'll see inshallah!

ezridax · 28/02/2007 22:48

Yea i say go into it with an open mind i was prepared to have and epidural but alhamdulilah i got to the hosp at 6-7 cm dilated and it was a case if u want anything other than G&A have it now. So said i'd try G&A and before i knew it i was pushing. Approx 2 hrs after getting to hosp Ismaaeel gave an appearance.
Must tell you that BF is likely to hurt so if you want to do it i'd say try and persevere. I was told that it doesn't hurt if your soing it properly.
I'd say that is true once it is established but i must say my nipples were put hrough the mill (so to say). Oh get some of that purple nipple cream - even if it doen't work it feels like your doing something proactive. It does get better how ever. Your baby learns how to breastfeed and so do you.
However if you chose not to, embrace it.

What about you other ladies out there, did you BF?

Oh yea nikki popped in on the whole circumcision thread, was quite shocked at the opinions but guess they were shocked at our readiness to do it.
I did do search on tinternet before getting son 'done' and was shocked to find that the first lot of sites that came up were propaganda on not performing circumcision.
I really didn't know that it was so controversial in some circles.

Sorry 4 length

ezridax · 28/02/2007 22:51

Soz another question if you did BF how long did u keep it up for.
Islamically the upper limit is 2 years and the WHO recommend at least 2 yrs BF. Not sure if i can keep it up for that long but it is may aim - I WANT AN UNDERWIRE IN MY BRA!!!!!!!!!!!

NovMum05 · 01/03/2007 10:34

salaamz all, where is everyone from?

Kerelene · 01/03/2007 11:20

Salaams sisters

how nice to see this thread. I'm a revert and my husband too, we have a daughter Anisa who is 19 months. Haven't read whole thread as I'm at work so trying to be quick!

Hanifah there is a very nice dua you can recite for childbirth, in fact it's an ayat from the Qur'an, it's supposed to help the birth be smooth and easy for mother and baby and it certainly worked for me al hamdulillah. I will get the details for you if you like. I also recited durood sharif throughout and it helped me a lot with the contractions.

When Anisa was born and I saw we had a girl I was so relieved we wouldn't have to worry about circumsion!! I was also worrying about what my mum would say in case she thought it was barbaric etc!

I live in Streatham South London but moving to east London soon inshallah.

I am still breastfeeding (twice a day) at 19 months, we had a lot of problems as Anisa was tongue tied, it finally settled down after 3-4 months. Feeding in front of people or in public is tricky to begin with but it gets easier. I agree it's best not to have too many visitors in the first couple of weeks and give yourself some time and space to bond with your baby.

Nice to meet you all

Hanifah · 01/03/2007 14:07

salams, yeah thanks cud u giv me the dua datd b great inshallah, was planning on reciting the surahs i know(especially ayahs like INNA MA'AL USRI YUSRA)and also bringing my portable playstation where i have all Quran downloaded, am a bit scared but more desperate for it to start really. I guess I just have to be patient for now, which isnt one of my strong points, lol. Inshallah I plan on breastfeeding (have got brestpump bottles steriliser etc as hope to express and try to get ds taking bottles sometimes when its 2 awkward2feed nshallah) I dont know how ill get on with it but nshallah ill try, have the nipple creams ready! I think Ill prob only feed for 6/8mths though cos the thought of teeth ouch. What does everyone think of soothers? Im planning on tryna get ds to take one, otherwise everyone says ill just be a human dummy, that even when hes not hungry hell just wana suck nonstop..ive seen it happen with people with 1/2 yr olds, quite embaressing in public...especially when theyre eating full meals like the rest of us,lol. But we'll see inshallah,I hope it goes to plan, been leaking a few mths lol. By d way im in Croydon, also South London

Kerelene · 01/03/2007 14:33

I remember the ayat goes 'Thuumb as-sabila yasra' and translates as 'then doth He make the path easy for Him'. It's from a sura about the Prohet pbuh and his encounter with a blind man. I will check the name and number of the sura - I won;t be able to get online again for a couple of days though - but if you go into labour before that just recite 'Thuumb as-sabila yasra'! You can also read surah al mariam.

I think you can make decisions about how long you want to breastfeed etc later - I had no fixed idea about how long I would feed for etc - I didn't plan to use a dummy before she was born but as my baby had colic and I was desperate to settle her I tried to get her to take one but she never did, but she sucked her thumb from about six weeks and that's how she goes to sleep.

I think you can avoid the 'human dummy' thing by making sure baby doesn't always fall asleep on your breast - he will initially of course but as he gets a bit older make sure he goes down to sleep awake in his cot or bed so he learns to settle himself rather than relying on having to suck.

How soon are you due?
