Re-opening the Muslim Tearoom?

Salaam/peace, I haven't seen a tea room thread for ages. Would anyone be interested in resurrecting it? Perhaps we could redecorate, and have a new range of yummy cakes!
The previous tearooms were places where all were welcome, and we could chat about parenting/marriage/Islam stuff. Visits from those we questions about Islam were also welcome.

Wa alaikum asalaam,

Congratulations Pann and im very glad you were given such good advice. it mirrors a famous hadith by the prophet Muhammad (pbuh), 'the religion is deep, so embrace it with gentleness' (Musnad Ahmad 27318). Lovely that you tried to fast for Dhul Hijjah, i did the 9 days and found it helps me be mindful of the hardships the pilgrims are going through in Mecca.

how was everyone's Eid? I went to the mosque for Eid prayers and was very moved by the Imam's sermon about the story of Lady Hajar and her baby Ismail. every year when i hear it told at this time theres always a new dimension to the story I didnt consider. this year it was about her faithfulness to God and that whilst she submitted to the decree that Abraham was to leave her and the baby in the desert, she didnt tear at her hair and wail like a banshee, nor did she cleave to the dust. she at once made the best of her situation by putting the baby down and searching all over for water. for her struggle by firstly accepting and then committing to her new reality God rewarded her with the fountain of Zamzam and the oasis that then bloomed for her and her baby. with my children sitting by me in the mosque i just found so much in that story to consider. it made me abit teary thinking of Lady Hajar and how in the same situation i would have been paralysed with fear and helplessness not taken the practical and pragmatic path!

Oh wow pannn congratulations.

I second the baby steps advice. Slowly and surely is best.

We had a good Eid, quiet and we went out to dinner as still recovering from the exhaustion of driving home from holiday!

bluedemilune · 03/09/2017 15:40

ooo where did you go fuzzy? hope it was somewhere hot.

slowly and surely is the best, convert burnout is a real and ever present problem, when they give up too many things too quickly without establishing the habits or social networks that will replace them then quickly lose their way and feel empty. i cant tell you how many converts i know who have left islam after converting because of this - the belief and shahadah itself is easy but the lifestyle and pillars is too hard for some people to maintain. heck even i find it hard sometimes and iv been brought up muslim.

Hahaha I wish. But I just had a baby so we stayed in the uk, we went to Northumberland, my younger DD is Harry Potter mad & wanted to visit Alnwick castle it was really fun, also went to beaches nearby was nice to just get away.

I actually have a rule on our house that all worship and practices are down moderately in a way you can continue it, so for example everyone recites the Quran for ten minutes a day and we all pray salat but nobody is expected to do anything over and above that.

It's easier to continue if you begin slowly.

Salam, morning all,
Not sure if the tea room is still open but I'm posting anyway!
Last year I converted to Islam and this year was my first Ramadan. I completed 10 days of fasting, but couldn't manage more. I felt guilty for this and my husband did not pressure me but I could see that he was disappointed.
I have chronic migraines - I have migraines most days and a background headache pretty much all the time. I've tried every available treatment, including injections to block the nerves in head and neck. I've been seeing specialist neurologists for about 15 years.
Long story short, I am currently unable to work due to this condition. I try to eat regularly and sleep at the same time each day as changes in routine, getting up at different times, missing a meal etc triggers more attacks.
My question is should I be fasting during Ramadan regardless or is this a genuine exclusion? I would appreciate your advice

I'd just like to ask a question about Islam, if anyone can answer it? (I'd rather not make my own thread, sorry)

My stbxp has converted to islam. He smokes a lot of weed, is obsessed with anti west conspiracy theories and watches a few (infuriating) islamic discussion videos on YouTube that are very much against women's choices.

Is he a true muslim or is he just a cherry picker deciding what he likes about Islam. Namely 4 wives?

He was not brought up muslim, so I'm confused. Especially as he believes he is permitted to smoke drugs, tells our preschool daughter she needs to dress modestly and wont allow her to play any musical instruments. He insists she is muslim, but I am an atheist and I think she can decide for herself as an adult.

This doesnt sound like islam to me and I'm worried. Can someone please help?

I think abortion is something that only the woman in that position can talk about. I agree with you "perfectly"...I wouldn't judge anyone for any decisions they make and I'm not the type of person to preach. And I hope I'm never in that position either.
What are your views on abortion Lipsy?

UmmH · 25/01/2021 19:14

I'm here. As usual I come late to every discussion, lol. If @Cinnamonstoothbrush and @ohbloodyell would still like answers, do come back.
