Who Wrote The Gospels?

"Matthew contains 606 of Markâ??s 661 verses. Luke contains 320 of Markâ??s 661 verses. Of the 55 verses of Mark which Matthew does not reproduce, Luke reproduces 31; therefore there are only 24 verses in all of Mark not reproduced somewhere in Matthew or Luke."

A good diagram here

head

caps it would only suggest you were doomed if you insisted on taking a dichotomous view

Which is not beyond the realms of possibility....

capsium · 11/04/2014 10:15

Talking of dichotomous views consider my two earlier statements:

They had a ghost writer (?)

I do believe the Gospels were written by the disciples* and don't know why you think it is obvious or unlikely that they didn't write them

I surprise my self sometimes...Grin

*there were more than 12 disciples.

Thank you head.

I'm revisiting the documentary you posted about earlier on the Lost Gospels, at the moment. I had watched some, but not all of it, a while ago. Fascinating stuff, and I am enjoying challenging myself, in terms of finding the unity, within Christian belief. Smile

Why do you think killing someone is a sin saints?

OP posts:
BackOnlyBriefly · 11/04/2014 12:02

saintsalive "Killing yourself is a sin.So if a person who did that, by definition, is not a christian"

By that definition there are probably no Christians, but which religion is it that claims Christians are totally without sin? I've not heard of that one. Is it new?

saintsalive · 11/04/2014 13:16

All people sin.

Killing yourself is murder.

www.openbible.info/topics/killing_yourself

See 4th one from revelation.

Feel we are all going round and round on this thread. Because some of you refute everything in the bible.
So really you are just nit picking. And you also know that us christians are not going to dismiss the bible.

So it becomes bible v non bible.

But bible wins. God wins ultimately. So all beware. But you choose not to beware. So it becomes up to christians to defend.

But be very careful about what you do in life. Everyone is accountable. And if you dont say sorry at some point before you die, you are in the biggest trouble possible. But you already know this. Deep dpwn inside. Please be very careful indeed.

HowardTJMoon · 11/04/2014 14:08

No one is allowed to kill anyone.

Unless you're the Abrahamic god. Then you can kill by the thousand and it's fine. Women, children, whatever - they're all appropriate targets for the Abrahamic god's Big Stick Of Smiting.

Oh, and the bible says you can kill provided the person you're killing is a witch. Or a homosexual. Or a fortune teller. Or has cursed his/her parents. Or committed adultery. Or is a woman who's not a virgin on her wedding night. Or follows another religion. Or has blasphemed.

Other than all that, though, don't forget that thou shalt not kill.

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:13

Howard You are forgetting Christ's teachings. He stopped the stoning of the adulteress woman.....He healed, brought people back to life, is the Resurrection...

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:14

...touched lepers (by OT unclean and deemed 'untouchable')

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:15

He forgives...

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:17

Healed on the Sabbath, allowed the disciples to eat without cleaning their hands first....

HowardTJMoon · 11/04/2014 14:18

Yes, you're right, I did forget Jesus. Add another one to the very long list of people that the god of the bible killed.

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:22

Howard It was human kind that crucified Christ, God is in Christ and Christ in God, they are the same. He allowed humans to crucify Him.

HowardTJMoon · 11/04/2014 14:32

According to the bible while it may have been humans who nailed Jesus to the cross, they were doing so absolutely as pawns in your god's plan. The god of the bible needed Jesus to die and he made sure that that is exactly what happened. The human involvement was merely a means to an end.

After all, what would've happened to your god's schemes if Judas had decided not to take the 30 pieces of silver?

atthestrokeoftwelve · 11/04/2014 14:40

Absolutely Howard, and poor old Judas Iscariot, another pawn in the Greatest Story, left hanging in a field and left for all to despise.

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:40

Howard Humans have Free Will. God just knows us very, very well. He knew that Judas would take the thirty pieces of silver, although it was Judas' choice to do this. He knows the beginning and the end, of everything and each of us.

saintsalive · 11/04/2014 14:41

They did so because they rejected Jesus and his teachings.

Same thing would happen today. Only I think that he would be killed sooner.

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:44

atthestroke Judas killed himself. He could not accept the Redemption available through Christ, which people have to choose (we have Free Will), and receive it. It was his non acceptance of the Redemption that Christ bought, that rendered him hopeless, and ultimately lead to the despair, whereby he killed himself. Sad

saintsalive · 11/04/2014 14:45

I pray that you all make the right choices. Sooner rather than later. Dangerous to get it wrong.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 11/04/2014 14:49

But god is omnipotent, it was all part of his plan, the betrayal,, the crucifixiion all puppets in the show. God used jesus, mary, judas as playthings.

capsium · 11/04/2014 14:55

atthestroke You forget God was in Jesus and Jesus in God, they are the same. By your reasoning God used Himself too, He was one of the puppets, and suffered, in order to save us.

saintsalive · 11/04/2014 14:57

omnipotent yes. All part of his plan, no.
He intervenes in mans' wrongdoing not as often as I would like.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 11/04/2014 14:59

saintsalive and no more so for christians than non believers. Not much point in going to church then.

saintsalive · 11/04/2014 15:01

going to church is mainly for the benefit of christians themsleves.

saintsalive and no more so for christians than non believers
Glad we can agree on something though! Smile
