Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

Prayers BES for you, your mum and dd.

Prayers too for Badvoc and her MRI scan.

And for Downtontrout coming to terms with the finality of her mother's death.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/02/2014 07:50

yawn. only had a few hours sleep in bed before getting up and dealing with ds and napping on his floor.

PandaG · 07/02/2014 18:32

lifting you all up.
BES - have you heard anything yet?

made it to Bible study this morning. Finding it ok to pray for others, but difficult to pray for myself, or to just 'be' with God. People being very supportive and lovely though. Very grateful for lovely friends, both in RL and online. x

BlackeyedSusan · 07/02/2014 19:49

oops sorry. she was discharged yesterday so must be ok.

dd's assessment was confusing.

Tuo · 08/02/2014 00:38

Praying for all, but especially tonight for...
... BES - for her mum, for her DD, and for herself; may she find some time for herself amidst all that she does for others;
... MHD - for better health;
... Sarah, friend of Faith, and her sister at this time of loss;
... Honey&Rum's friend, whose dad died suddenly, and for the whole family; may he rest in peace and rise in glory;
... Zing - for a buyer for the house;
... Dido - thanking God for the safe arrival of her friend's granddaughter;
... Room - for better health all-round in the Room household;
... Gingercurl - for calm preparation, clear thought, and lots of moral support in the run-up to her viva;
... Badvoc - as she mourns the loss of her dad; also for her aunt, for health for her DS, and for Badvoc's own health worries;
... PA - thanking God for her strength in getting over her job disappointment and for a solution to the tax credit issues; praying for a job for her DD1 and for a safe conclusion to her DD3's pregnancy;
... Panda - mourning the loss of her mum;
... MaryBS - for her two friends: one who has lots of problems in her life, and the other whose health has deteriorated;
... LollipopViolet - thanking God for the safe arrival of her cousin's baby son, and remembering all who mourn the loss of Lollipop's granddad;
... Kay, bounty and Charlotte - as they rebuild their new lives;
... amber - for her work improving the lives of people with autism and helping others to be more tolerant and understanding;
... BlessedAssurance - for her pregnancy to continue smoothly;
... Oma - after the loss of her beloved Bob; also for a good recovery from her latest eye operation.

Prayers also for anyone I've forgotten - it was not deliberate!

I am also praying for my DD2, who's struggling with being at a different High School from most of her friends from the Juniors; for a friend who's struggling at work; and for all those affected by the untimely death a few years ago of a young woman I was lucky enough to know.

A prayer of St Augustine:

Watch, dear Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and let your angels protect those who sleep. Tend the sick. Refresh the weary. Sustain the dying. Calm the suffering. Pity the distressed. We ask this for the sake of your love. AMEN

buyers - 7 lots of them are coming today to view the house, a good offer would be amazing and reduce my stress levels enormously.

DS2 has tonsillitis again, 5th time in 3 months so that's it, he needs them out.
stressful enough, but with all other things I feel it's more than I can bear right now.Sad

praying for all of you

NoRoomForALittleOne · 08/02/2014 07:34

Sorry not been around much recently. DS has been poorly for a while and has taken up lots of my time and attention (much to the disgust of the 3 DDs). Now DD3 has woken up with a temperature Sad

Glad that your mum's op went OK, BES. I've been praying for you.

Kaykat · 08/02/2014 08:39

Sorry I haven't been around much either as struggling with lack of internet. Had a few problems with ds he got into trouble at school which is very unlike him. The school were very good about it. His dad coming in and of if his life ad hoc and lying lots doesn't help. Generally every few days I feel like I could have handled something with ds in a better way.
I am also trying to push things forward with my divorce which is excruciatingly slow.
However ds and I are very happy with our new home and I am very thankful for it.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 09/02/2014 21:12

Does anyone know a good (short) book about suffering and the big questions around suffering? I'm struggling to find the right stuff for writing the last week of a Bible Study on Job (I'm going to explore how Job fits with the rest of the bible and look a bit at suffering as Job doesn't really answer the questions people ask).

Dutchoma · 09/02/2014 21:44

C.S. Lewis, The problem of pain?

NoRoomForALittleOne · 09/02/2014 22:05

Grin DH just gave it to me! For now though I need to go to bed as DD3 is poorly and was in bed with us all night last night. I've been extremely achey today!

amberlight · 10/02/2014 19:33

Reading through and praying for each one of you

BlessedAssurance · 10/02/2014 22:35

Praying for each and every one on this thread. When i was reading i thought about something that Dd(3) said this afternoon. I picked her up from daycare and she was on a roll talking about Jesus fighting all the monsters and chasing them out of her room. She talked about having a nightmare and asking Jesus to help her and that she felt that the monsters had gone.

She then asked me why Jesus did not live in our house but in our hearts. I was looking for a perfect answer when she said" i know why mummy, that's because Jesus would get really cold in the closet"Grin. He lives in our hearts because our hearts are warm and have blood". Then she went on to say * but we need to invite Him in, if we don't He will live somewhere else and that is not good". He is King" . My mouth went wide open.She made my day. The same will i echo. He hears our cries. He is hear to wipe away our tears and chase those monsters not in our rooms but in our lives. He wants and desires to be in our hearts pumping with blood, warming us and keeping us alive even when the going gets tough.

So [Sad] for everyone with friends who have lost loved ones. Bes He knows your name, your every thought,He feels each tear and hears you when you call. You are NOT alone. He is in the details, big or small.
Badvoc prayers your way too.
Prayers for all of us. I thank God that my DD is doing great. She has been going through a phase[ baby coming and her not being the centre of attention]. Me being home and focusing on her has made a huge improvement on her behaviour. Praise God.

ZingSweetApple · 10/02/2014 22:50

rubbish stuff going on:

  • we had no offers on house despite 8 lots of viewers on Saturday
  • we are now officially in flood risk area
  • DS2 has got tonsillitis for 5th time in 3 months and we are now waiting for tonsillectomy to be scheduled asap
  • I've had the runs since 5am yesterday, tried to eat today but it made the situation worse.
I'm in pain (stomach cramps) but must keep at least hydrated. (I have lost 5lbs since Friday, not ideal when 4 months pg)
  • DS1 has had bad stomach cramps as well so GP tomorrow
  • DS4 is unhappy at school, his friends ignore him and it's been weeks (spoke to his lovely teacher today as I only found out Friday pm)
  • pg insomnia is messing with my sleep.
  • because of all the above I'm stressed, permanently exhausted have zero patience or energy.

I know things will get better, but right now I feel very sorry for myself/ourself.

ZingSweetApple · 10/02/2014 22:53

*ourselves

and I've just been reminded two more - frequent nosebleeds and ongoing nausea/sickness.

CheerfulYank · 11/02/2014 06:08

Hello everyone :)

Dutchoma · 11/02/2014 06:35

Hello CheerfulYank. How are you doing?

Sorry to hear your tale of woe Zing. Hopefully you will have a better day today.

What a lovely story about your dd, BlessedAssurance* Children can be so perceptive, can't they?

I had a lovely day with Weegiemum and her family, slightly marred by the fact that I had no access to my bank account and had to borrow from my friend round the corner. they promised to restore access: within the working day then overnight and I still can't get into it. Grrrr. It doesn't really matter though, agains all the problems people have.

CheerfulYank · 11/02/2014 06:51

I'm doing well DutchOma. I was so very sorry to hear of your loss and wanted to pop by to say I was thinking of you.

Dutchoma · 11/02/2014 07:38

Thank you CheerfulYank The support, especially from people on MN has been so very much appreciated.

waves to CheerfulYank :)

Oh Zing that sounds so tough at the moment, praying, hope the floods haven't affected you?

Panda praying for you this morning.

Sorry I have not been on much, really struggling to shake off this infection, been on abs 10 days now and still here, went to GP this morning and changing to another sort for another week so hopefully it will kick in, feel rubbish, and dh is off to DRC next week so I need to be strong :(

PandaG · 11/02/2014 12:07

praying as I read through. Zing, what a lot onyour plate, praying for peace, strength and healing. God does deliver on buyers and sellers for houses, he really did for us 2 years ago. Is crap while you are waiting though.

I'm doing ok I think. Not taken prescribed sleeping tabs for nearly a week, have some in hand if it gets bad again though. Went back to our church for the first time since Mum died this Sunday. Was good to be back in the midst of my church family. Still finding it nigh on impossible to spend time with God and pray or just be. Am ok praying for others though. Found that DS (14) had blogged about Mum's death yesterday - he has written very movingly about how death is not the end. So thankful for his faith.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/02/2014 11:07

red level wind warnings

prayers for safety for all involved.

ZingSweetApple · 12/02/2014 12:53

thank you all for support - I'm on the mend now and feel more positive generally.

Dutchoma · 12/02/2014 13:11

That's good to hear Zing. And Bes you watch it in that wind.
