Is the Christian God's love unconditional?

Ok, some questions which have been playing on my mind, I am genuinely interested.

Surely his love is on the condition that you are a) a Christian and b) follow his rules?

Also, if God loves everyone as much as he does, why can't he save everyone by simply appearing to them? If I could save my children by doing this then I would in an instant, rather than turning up at the end and destroying the ones who weren't Christian.

I would rather have a god who would not demand a level of decency from me, that he himself was somehow exempt from.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 21:45

So god had free will because his choices caused suffering?

Woolmark · 27/11/2013 21:45

Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here and tell you what I think. I've come to these conclusions through reading around people who have NDE's (near death experiences, fascinating field btw) among other things.

Basically life in about soul advancement. I believe in reincarnation & that the human soul is reborn into different situations/lives in order to work through their sinful nature. I believe Jesus came to show us the shortcut. Early Christians believed in reincarnation, so does orthodox Judaism.

(I meant reading about, not around)

The bad choices of the human race cause suffering, head.

Hmm. I don't know where the Bible indicates there is reincarnation, Wool but I hope you enjoy your exploration into Faith.

Emporer Justinas banned the belief in the 6th century, I'm assumed anything that alluded to it was removed from the bible, google it, it was an interesting time to be a Christian!

Don't know much about it. But you could probably should look at learning Greek and Hebrew if you are interested in whether the Bible remains true to Early Christian beliefs.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:01

I take my King James in Faith. However look forward to some interesting posts from you Wool.

Woolmark · 27/11/2013 22:02

I think the translations are pretty much correct, but I think bits have been removed or 'lost' over time.

I haven't studied it in any great depth but I would love to, the early Church fascinates me.

But if I knew you specifically were going to hurt a child tonight I would do everything I could to stop you. Your free will wouldn't stop me stopping you. Anyone else would not think it okay if I didn't act on that information. They would be pretty disgusted with me. They would not do intellectual gymnastics to make me seem good.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:06

I'm just getting to grips with what there is in the King James at the moment. However I would agree the early Church is fascinating.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:10

If I knew someone specifically was going to hurt a child I would do everything I could to stop them too head.

As I say God works through people. I'm a person who wants to do His will, so He can work through me.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 22:11

God caused suffering when he decided to make us fallible. Furthermore why would god hold us accountable for something we did before we knew right from wrong?

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:13

God did not decide to make us fallible. Adam and Eve made us fallible through their original sin.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 22:13

So why doesn't god tell you about the people who will be hurt so that you can warn them?

headinhands · 27/11/2013 22:14

But he made it so that we could fuck up in a way he can't supposedly.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:15

If we choose to accept the Redemption Christ bought for us God does not hold us accountable.

Golddigger · 27/11/2013 22:15

He is boss. He made the world. He can do whatever He pleases. Or at least overcome everything.

I gave up being bothered by it, worried about it, struggling to find out absolutely all the whys and wherefores a long time ago. As I realised that I will never never never know all the answers on earth.

So I gave up and trust Him instead.

I am probably not the best person to speak to about all that.

You cant stop God doing anything, unless you possibly pleaded with Him.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:15

If we choose to accept the Redemption Christ bought for us God does not hold us accountable.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 22:15

And he knew what would happen didn't he.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:17

We can warn people. Revelation is full of warnings.

capsium · 27/11/2013 22:18

Yes. God wins.
