Is the Christian God's love unconditional?

Ok, some questions which have been playing on my mind, I am genuinely interested.

Surely his love is on the condition that you are a) a Christian and b) follow his rules?

Also, if God loves everyone as much as he does, why can't he save everyone by simply appearing to them? If I could save my children by doing this then I would in an instant, rather than turning up at the end and destroying the ones who weren't Christian.

Head, when you were a Christian were you a biblical literalist?

capsium · 27/11/2013 18:48

Well would you like there to be no free will?

Would you like the 'pit bull terrier' types to be obliterated or taken off the face of the earth instead?

Neither of these options seem preferable to me. Redemption through Christ seems the best bet to me. Everybody has the potential to change. We have a choice, free will.

msmiggins · 27/11/2013 18:55

We are the pit bulls! I am suggesting that god is being cruel in designing such playthings for himself.

capsium · 27/11/2013 19:00

msmiggins So what would you prefer?

Yes we all have the potential to be pit bulls.

So should God give up and obliterate us? Let us die out? Take away free will? Or offer Redemption? There is Redemption offered through Christ.

capsium · 27/11/2013 19:01

Are we cruel for reproducing? More pit bulls to fight with each other?

Thank God there is Hope, Redemption through Christ.

msmiggins · 27/11/2013 19:14

Why did he create us in the first place, and evil for that matter?

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

—Isaiah 45:7

Given that god is a mythical creature however none of those questions are relevant.

capsium · 27/11/2013 19:16

msmiggins So why are you asking?

Free will involves the choice to choose to do what is not right.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 19:24

About choosing to do what is not right. Would it be 'right' or 'not right' for me to not call the police if I was witnessing a rape? Can you give me an example of how it might ever be the right thing to do to allow someone to rape someone?

BackOnlyBriefly · 27/11/2013 19:30

I've asked this before, but most christians seem to think heaven would be a place without suffering. Does this mean there is no free will in heaven or that there IS a way to have free will without suffering.

capsium · 27/11/2013 19:32

back In Heaven we are at one with God. There is no sin. We have already freely chosen God, we have new bodies free from sin.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 19:37

So when we are in heaven and have chosen god we stop having free will? Or can we still mess up in heaven? Does god have free will? If so and is also simultaneously incapable of being 'bad' why couldn't god make us like that from the off?

BackOnlyBriefly · 27/11/2013 19:37

capsium I'm not sure I understand how a new body makes us so different that we can't sin, but if that's such a good thing why didn't god give us those bodies here and skip the horrendous suffering.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 19:39

X post Back.

Can anyone answer my post about the morality of not intervening/preventing a rape if you could?

capsium · 27/11/2013 19:43

Because the sin is in our flesh our corporal bodies. A 'Sin Nature' or fallibility has been passed down through the generations, since Adam. We were never designed not to have communion with God.

An analogy would be a computer which needs to receive new updates to run efficiently. Anyway when we choose God, through accepting Jesus Christ we are Redeemed.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 20:02

Firstly, why would god make computers that he knew would get viruses, and then hold them responsible for that. Why not make us like him i.e. impervious to viruses? If he has free will but is prefect, make us the same?

Secondly, how can a god, who is supposedly morally superior in every way, watch someone be raped? Why is it okay/moral for god to watch and not act, and negligent/immoral for a human to not act?

capsium · 27/11/2013 20:15

We were made for communion with God. Think of a computer with less capacity. If we were the same as God, we would be God.

We have free will. Would you prefer not to have free will? God works through people, who choose to do His will.

Golddigger · 27/11/2013 20:21

headinhands. You do realise that you are somewhat spending your life trying to find the magic bullet. When the magic bullet is God himself. That is why you believed. He helped you believe.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 20:44

Does god have free will? Why give someone inferior to yourself responsibility that would give them greater ability for harm than you have?

headinhands · 27/11/2013 20:48

Gold I probably spend more time than I should that's for sure. Guess it's taking a while for me to get my head round it as any loss would.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/11/2013 20:49

What have you lost Head?

capsium · 27/11/2013 20:49

How can you have a loving relationship with someone without free will?

Golddigger · 27/11/2013 20:52

Do you think that it is a type of grieving?
Am realising that is a feeling type question so maybe not allowed. And I will shut up once more.

headinhands · 27/11/2013 21:02

So god has free will like me? Why doesn't god prevent people doing bad things? My husband loves me of his own free will, if he decides he would rather love someone else I would not want him to suffer (for long). I would not set up a system where he would suffer in anyway because he did not love me. If I did that would make me a shit. End of. I would like him to love me, but I got over myself some time ago.

I mean loss as in losing faith.

capsium · 27/11/2013 21:08

Because God has given us free will. We can choose to do bad things. If you go against God, since God is good, you do bad things. The bad things people do cause suffering. Even environmental suffering.

capsium · 27/11/2013 21:10

Free will means some people will make the wrong choice which results in suffering.

Would you rather not have free will?
