Right I am going to bite. I shouldnt have looked at the facebook but I did.

Mr Ruggles you have made some horrible accusations. You have claimed everyone who disagreed with you was an atheist who lacked logic and reasoning. You were wrong on ALL counts. Many people told you they were Christian or Theists, they just didn't agree with you. The thread was also full of valid scientific arguments which were well worded and full of logic and reasoning.

You have also accused us all of being bullies. Something I saw no evidence of. Not agreeing with someone is not bullying.

So please do feel free to justify your off board comments here as speaking behind peoples backs is really not on.

Please could someone link to the old thread. Thanks

Ellie I would love to claim the lemon in a box as my own but it is an argument someone (I actually thought it was you) used against me in the first thread..

But then again I believe the true meaning of the word 'atheist' is 'worshipper of oneself'.

Then you badly need a dictionary.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 08/05/2013 19:41

Jewcy, you seem to be suggesting that atheists cannot suffer. Is that correct?

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 08/05/2013 19:44

But, then again, atheists don't do a right lot these days except hang on to the coat tails of celebrity iconoclasts.

What would expect atheists to be doing exactly? Short of worshipping gods I think we do pretty much what anyone else does, on the whole.

LizzyDay · 08/05/2013 19:46

"First of all, January, I didn't say I have suffered more than anyone else, now did I? Apology please."

Jewcy - with practically every post you try to draw attention to your difficult past. You're in danger of coming across as a stampy-footed teenager, I'm afraid.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 08/05/2013 19:49

You made it very clear that anyone who has not visited the bottom of your particular pit...

"And where did I say that, January? Do not put words in my mouth. I will ask you again, however: have you experienced any of the things you mentioned above?"

Well, what you said was:
Anyone who tells me otherwise who has never suffered that degredation is simply arrogant in my eyes.

So that's pretty much guilty as charged then. Unless you haven't suffered that 'pit' yourself, making you equally arrogant.

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:12

Degradation of the soul - the losing of oneself entirely - is not something I believe atheists have experienced. I did not say atheists have never suffered.

Jewcy - with practically every post you try to draw attention to your difficult past.

..and none of you talk about your pasts whatsoever. I find it absurd that you all have these insightful vistas on life which you try to impose on others without ever revealing how it is you have come to hate God and what you have found instead to get you through life. Who are you? What have you done? Where have you been? What have you found?

I'm sorry my snippets of the past are discomforting. Tough. These are my experiences and I will share them. I understand you are uncomfortable at the thought of an atheist having turned to God and been saved but that is something you will just have to accept. Because it is the truth.

How extraordinarily coincidental that the god you found was the god you were taught about as a child. Good job you weren't raised Hindu or any one of a thousand other religions because then you'd be completely stuffed, wouldn't you?

Do you want me to apologise that it was the Gospel of Mark I picked up in hospital instead of the Koran?

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:14

Don't Hindus worship cows?

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:16

What would expect atheists to be doing exactly?

Writing your manifesto?

BackOnlyBriefly · 08/05/2013 21:23

How can I hate God? He is fictional? It would be like hating Tinkerbell.

As for finding the snippets uncomfortable we could all play the attention seeking game. You don't seem interested in the subject of this thread so I suspect you just moved over from the other one to get a bigger audience.

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:32

What is the subject of this thread?

Snorbs · 08/05/2013 21:32

I understand you are uncomfortable at the thought of an atheist having turned to God and been saved but that is something you will just have to accept.

I'm not uncomfortable about that. It's your life. Believe in whatever you want.

I am slightly uncomfortable with the sheer amount of aggression that seems to be hovering in the background of everything you post. It seems uncalled for.

Do you think it's possible that this anger you hold was the driving force behind your "atheism"? Could it be that you claimed a lack of belief in gods not because that was where your reason had led you but, rather, to hit back at the Christian god that you felt had failed you by not saving you from your own self-destructive tendencies? That, possibly, it was driven more by a desire to hurt god's feelings rather than because you had genuinely arrived at a position where you did not believe that gods exist?

Don't Hindus worship cows?

...wow.

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:38

*Personally I am going to ignore Jewcy on the basis of...well pretty much everything they have said so far...but mostly:

  1. They are glad someone is dead
  2. They don't believe atheists can respect theists
  3. The whole drunken disruption thing...I mean that's what's going on right here isn't it? They have switched sides but they haven't actually become in any sense a better person...*
  1. I am also glad Hitler is dead.
  2. You are right. I don't believe you respect theists. I think you are afraid of them.
  3. Am I disrupting your thread? I'm not drunk (I'm a recovered alcoholic and therefore teetotal but didn't want to attention-seek) but neither have I claimed to be a 'better' person since 'switching sides'. I am trying - honest, but it's difficult to rein it in when the person I love most in the world is being denigrated.

No.

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:40

I love how you feel the need to assert that I have never been an atheist. Love it.

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:41

Verses of the Rigveda refer to the cow as Devi (goddess), identified with Aditi (mother of the gods) herself.

Wow, indeed.

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 21:42

Blimey, you are easily affronted.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 08/05/2013 21:48

What is the subject of this thread?

YEC..... You asked what it stood for and you were given an answer. So either you know full well what the topic of the thread is or you haven't actually been paying attention or bothered to read the rest of the thread.

Januarymadness · 08/05/2013 21:48

er right..... where were we. Tell me more about the gravitational time dialation model....

OP posts:
PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 08/05/2013 21:53

..and none of you talk about your pasts whatsoever.

Not relevant to the thread, so why would we. You seem to have just jumped into a thread with no idea of the topic and started rambling on about your difficult past.

I find it absurd that you all have these insightful vistas on life which you try to impose on others without ever revealing how it is you have come to hate God

I don't hate god, I don't believe in God. What I hate are preachy religionists.

Who are you?

I'm Pedro

What have you done?

All kinds of stuff

Where have you been?

All kinds of places

What have you found?

All kinds of stuff.

What's your point?

Januarymadness · 08/05/2013 21:57

Grin Grin @ I am Pedro Grin Grin

are you also sparticus?

OP posts:
Jewcy · 08/05/2013 22:02

..but there are all kinds of things being discussed here, aren't there? I joined the thread at the point where the following had been debated in quick succession: altruism; bi-polar disorder; brain chemistry; God's limitations; gamma ray bursts; the faith gene; and the existence of God.

I will happily leave the thread if you think I am here simply to attention-seek. That is truly not why I came here. I am interested in why atheists pour so much energy into disbelieving and why they're always so bloody angry. Especially you, Pedro..you sound terribly bitter.

PedroYoniLikesCrisps · 08/05/2013 22:05

are you also sparticus?

Yes.... Yes I am Wink

Jewcy · 08/05/2013 22:05

...in fact, Pedro, I think you are full of hate.

Januarymadness · 08/05/2013 22:06

you might want to have a look at the first thread to see how we got here. Can someone link please ? Thank you
