I have absolute proof that there is no God.

I've just seen in our local paper that a little girl who lives in our town has died. She has been the focus of much prayer since she was taken ill last year. Her parents were thoroughly good Christian people who trusted God absolutely.

The is no way that a loving, omnipotent, beneficent God who notes even a sparrow falling would not have answered these people's prayer.

So, if I had even a scintilla of doubt, it is now gone. There is no God.

Also, why do we need philosophy anyway? What is wrong with just not knowing?

technodad · 22/08/2012 15:05

Yellow - oh, OK.

Well I think the post title was in response to another thread claiming evidence for gods existence.

yellowraincoat · 22/08/2012 15:07

Well, so what? The OP claimed she had absolute proof. Whether or not it is in response to a thread is neither here nor there.

Any time you're wondering about why this is or that is, it is philosophy.

headinhands · 22/08/2012 15:34

yellow I trust you are busy making the same comment on all the other threads here where people claim to be certain god has answered their prayer?

yellowraincoat · 22/08/2012 15:37

Why headinhands ? Do I have a quota to fill?

headinhands · 22/08/2012 15:45

Have you made the same comment on threads titles asserting that there is a god?

yellowraincoat · 22/08/2012 15:47

Probably, yes. What's your point?

headinhands · 22/08/2012 15:59

That's okay then. I wondered if it was the claim about the absence that rankled you rather than a claim itself. The title, I think was in response to other grand claims made in other thread titles.

garlicnuts · 22/08/2012 17:26

What is wrong with just not knowing? ... Is a philosophical question, technodad!

seeker · 22/08/2012 18:56

Ht is it breathtakingly arrogant to say that there is no god, but ^not breathtakingly arrogant o say that there is? At least there's loads of evidence to support the first position!

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 22/08/2012 18:59

Er, I already said I'd say the same thing to someone who asserts that there is definitely a God and that they have proof.

headinhands · 22/08/2012 19:01

I think yellow was referring to the claim ether than the details. I don't think they realised you had chosen that bold title deliberately for effect. I may have it wrong though which is not unusual Grin

amillionyears · 22/08/2012 20:19

Hi.Dont quite know where to restart.
Or even if you still want me to.
If you want me to shut up and go away I will.

amillionyears · 22/08/2012 20:24

CrikeyOHare,20 36pm last night or thereabouts.
"the greater the education, the greater the tendancy towards atheism"
This is because, the more money people have, the greater the tendancy to rely on it,instead of God
The bible says something about it is easier for a camel to go through a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven.

headinhands · 22/08/2012 20:25

amillion this is your thread as much as anyone else's. I wouldn't want anyone to shut up and go away, unless they were being very offensive and you're certainly not that Smile

Juule · 22/08/2012 20:31

""the greater the education, the greater the tendancy towards atheism""

and

"This is because, the more money people have, the greater the tendancy to rely on it,instead of God"

I'm not understanding the link between these two.

amillionyears · 22/08/2012 20:35

seeker 00.42
why has God never reattached a severed limb
Firstly,he could if he wanted to.
But agree with you, that I dont know of any cases in history where has has done that particular thing.
There is a possibilty that no one has asked him to.
I,personally would probably not ask him to.So Im having to ask myself why.I suppose because I expect God to fit to certain earthly norms, which is slightly ridiculous really. But I cant see him suddenly allowing houses to fly if I asked him either iyswim.
Trouble is with me,that in RL I do not have much imagination,so I cant think of a suitable other answer than flying houses.Someone else could ,but I cant.

technodad 08.09am
I can see where you are coming from about the bible.
But the thing is about the bible, that if you were to become a Christian, you would know it is a very valuable resource.I dont know of any Christians who think otherwise.
But I realise that it could take you many years before you will consider personally reading any of it.
I have been wondering actually whether it sort of scares you in some way.

amillionyears · 22/08/2012 20:43

headinhands,thank you Smile

amillionyears · 22/08/2012 20:44

Juule.Sometimes or often the more educated people earn the greater amounts of money, thus on the whole tend to be richer.

amillionyears · 22/08/2012 20:50

headinhands 09.38am
The couple I talked about are not the norm amongst the Christians I know.
I can assure you though, that in that circumstance and others, that if there is suffering amongst us,there is also great compassion, support, prayers, and practical help.
If there were not these things in the church I attended,I would personally leave and find another one.

Juule · 22/08/2012 20:50

I just don't consider there is a link such as more wealthy = more likely to be athiest.

Could be wrong though.

garlicnuts · 22/08/2012 21:06

I just don't consider there is a link such as more wealthy = more likely to be atheist.

Head of Church of England: rich.
Head of Catholic Church: rich.
Heads of numerous American churches: rich.

Obv the Queen and Pope are well educated. They prove nothing except that being head of a church is likely to improve your bank balance.

amillion, please don't put yourself down! The imagery of "flying houses" made me gasp a little bit! You do have imagination :)

technodad · 22/08/2012 21:26

Welcome back amillionyears.

Quite clearly wealth has noting to do with it, since the vatican is extremely wealthy, as are the Queen, Tony Blair and George Bush, and they are all quite happy to keep going with the illusion of god. But I suppose it is in their interest to keep the masses believing, as long as they are kept in their luxury!

Clearly the more educated people are, the less likely they are to accept the religious brainwashing and go along with religion.

I can genuinely, without any hesitation at all, say that I am in no way scared by the idea of reading the bible. I laughed when I read your comment, because I can't see what might be scary about reading the bible.

As it stands at the moment, if you are right and there is a god, then I am likely to be going to hell for eternity because of what I have typed on this thread. However, if I am right and there is no god, then when I die there will be eternal nothingness, which is pretty scary too (not that I will be conscious to know it). Why would reading the bible scare me more than these two scenarios which I am already destined for?

Interestingly, I think it is more appropriate to ask you the same question. Does it scare you that there is no god, and that there will be eternal nothingness when you die (don't worry, you won't have any consciousness or soul, so you won't know when it happens)? When I was 10 years old I used to cry myself to sleep about it. I read the bible to try to make myself feel better, but decided that it was nonsense and realised that reality was better than kidding myself. I am now not scared, because the one thing about life which is certain, is death!

I am going to go and amuse myself by reading the funny Amazon reviews of the King James' Bible.

Chat later.

headinhands · 22/08/2012 21:27

amillion you said that the more moola
people have the less likely they are to rely on god. Rely on him for what? What do you rely on him for? And I mean him, not your church or fellow believers.
