Safe haven chat thread for believers

Starwisher · 04/04/2012 23:45

I thought it be lovely to start a" safe haven"thread for all the believers on mumsnet. It doesn't matter what religion or spirituality you are, the important thing is a belief in God or higher power that unites us.

The idea is too talk with other believers to share ideas, thoughts and feelings or even general musings.
So come in and relax!

please can I respectfully ask that this is not a debating thread to challenge people. While I am not the mn police, there are other threads to debate on or please start your own. This is a safe haven

hi monster and chip! am sat in a cafe reading nicky gumbel's Questions of Life. old book but good. interestingly since I have started on this thread, the words "I am the way the truth and the life" keep cropping up everywhere!

Have any of you got stories of signs that you think were meant for you? I find this fascinating. would love to hear about them x

hiddenhome · 13/04/2012 19:01

Not signs as such, but some strange things have happened to me over the years, things which, I'm convinced, have come from God.

chipmonkey · 13/04/2012 19:20

Upthread I mentioned the feathers I believe my little angel has left around for me to find.

Also, the night before my Dad died, my sister was sitting in her living room. She heard three sharp knocks on her window. She was alone and petrified, particularly as my Dad had always told us that three knocks meant spirits calling. The next day my Dad died. We don't know if someone was warning us.

When I was staying in the hospice with dh1 a date kept coming into my head - 14th January. I asked if it was going to be the date that dh died, but the answer was a definite "no", however, the 14th was going to be significant in some way. This went on for quite some time. dh died in January and I had to organise the date for his funeral. I was asked by his colleagues if I could postpone it for a couple of days so people could come up from London to attend. The date the undertaker came up with was 14th January. It wasn't until about two weeks after the funeral that I realised what date it had been. I think I was being forewarned as the end did come quickly due to him having a chest infection.

Also, when I was with the evil foster family I was caught one morning by the foster mother for being away from the park area where I was meant to stay (I used to go looking for friends sometimes). She pulled up in her car and ordered me to go home right away. I knew I was in for it (a good beating), but something told me to go in the opposite direction. I was terrified of her, but I knew I needed to run away, so I did. It wasn't anything I'd ever done before and I was always very compliant and submissive due to the violence. My legs took me to the next village and I hid out then went to a friends house. The police caught up with me and I was returned to the foster hell hole house. I did recieve a good beating, but a week later I was ordered to pack my stuff up as I was leaving. After 6 years of utter hell I was being shipped out!

I have since read my social services records and I have found out that the foster mother contacted my social worker to tell her that, after my running away, she couldn't cope with having me any longer - she was having treatment for breast cancer and her husband had left her (no sympathy please, she was pure evil) - If I hadn't run away, things would probably have just gone on as before. She's still alive btw as I tracked her down a few years ago.

I'm certain that something was telling me to run that morning. It was totally out of character for me to have done that as I lived my life in utter fear. It saved my life I think and it certainly gave me my freedom Smile Something gave me the courage and calmness to just go (I can remember feeling calm for some strange reason).

Thanks everyone for your stories. Yes Cod I do remember your feathers - so beautiful. Hidden I have tears in my eyes reading your posts. You've been through so much and you still believe. You must be very strong to have kept going and still be fighting on.

jjkm what a great story about the deer! when you hear things like that it is hard to disbelieve.

I remember once when I was very disillusioned with it all. finding a battered bible on the windowsill of my work outside. Car dark was an enclosed one for that company only and I couldn't understand how it had come to be there! x

itchitch · 14/04/2012 09:18

car park!

blobtobetter · 14/04/2012 20:30

Does anyone else like watching Christian films?

I nearly always end up in tears and some are really inspiring / moving / encouraging.

itchitch · 14/04/2012 21:04

Blob, what do you mean by Christian films? What ones have you seen? x

blobtobetter · 14/04/2012 21:14

I have seen quite a few!

Things like Fireproof, Facing the Giants, Flywheel and the Perfect Stranger trilogy, Sarah's Choice and Letters to God.

Sure there are some I am forgetting! I want to watch Courageous too!

The feathers thing is interesting, my nan was always a believer that feathers where sent by my grandad as messages for her. Since her death feathers have often appeared at significant times.

blobtobetter · 15/04/2012 07:35

I know the films are sometimes low budget but the train track scene in Fireproof was amazing. I think it is on youtube somewhere.

tummytickler · 15/04/2012 13:06

Hi all, lovely to hear your stories. I find the white feather thing really interesting, and the story about the deer crossing the path is incredible! How could you ever doubt when you have had an experience like that!
I don't think I have seen any Christian films! Not sure dh would approve if I stuck one on in the eve Grin but may track one down for when the children are at school.
How is everyone today - hope you are enjoying your Sunday!

Starwisher · 16/04/2012 00:46

Marking spot, will read back later :)

chipmonkey · 16/04/2012 23:59

Saturday, a good friend had just announced to me that she was pregnant. We were sitting in my kitchen and through the utility room window I could see a white feather falling to the ground outside. This is a very narrow window. I went out this morning and over to the exact spot and found the tiny white feather. I think it was dd saying hello to her new little friend. I hope she will be his/her guardian angel.

Love this one

There are 3 films in the series and a television series too

I think Jefferson Moore is amazing in them all!
