Safe haven chat thread for believers

I thought it be lovely to start a" safe haven"thread for all the believers on mumsnet. It doesn't matter what religion or spirituality you are, the important thing is a belief in God or higher power that unites us.

The idea is too talk with other believers to share ideas, thoughts and feelings or even general musings.
So come in and relax!

please can I respectfully ask that this is not a debating thread to challenge people. While I am not the mn police, there are other threads to debate on or please start your own. This is a safe haven

Have you heard of lillith, Adams maybe first wife, it is debateable! She is apparently the reason we have period and childbirth pain.

I am hopefull more things will turn up. The dead sea scrolls can't be the only long hidden documents.

I would like to know more of the missing years of Jesus.

I watched an online documentary that explained that Jesus may have gone to India after he was resurrected. There is a tomb in a town in India (can't remember the name) with the bones of a man called Issa who was a wise man who lived until he was very old. He was Jewish and next to the tomb is a carving of a feet, one of which has a hole in. It was an interesting programme and put forward some very convincing arguments. I'll try and find a link.

Hi all. Have been reading the thread with interest but don't have much to contribute. You are all so lovely and congrats to cod and tummy! It must be wonderful to believe that strongly. Have been thinking a lot this week about God and Jesus and what I believe. Am a bit stuck really.

one question that I get stuck on is this. What is the truth? as Christians we believe we are the truth and the one true religion. also Muslims believe they are the one true religion, as do others. I cling to the need for The Truth but that is not possible as faith is what is needed. Does anyone have thoughts on this one? Thanks for bearing with me! x

SophieNeveau · 10/04/2012 22:04

I don't know a lot about Muslims etc so I for one can't compare. I know the old testament in the bible is the same as the Jewish book. I know the Muslims respect Jesus and their book was passed from one mans memory to anothers until it was written down, and Jews and Muslims don't eat pork, they also have ways and prayers when animals are slaughtered.

hiddenhome · 10/04/2012 22:16

itchitch Jesus said the He was the way, the truth and the life and that nobody could go to the Father except through Him. That's either the truth or staggering arrogance. You choose.

I have a feeling that free will is only an illusion and those who are raised to believe in another faith and who are unable to choose to follow Jesus for whatever reason, are still given God's love and mercy just as we all are Smile Some people are trapped within their belief systems, some are lucky and have broken free and some are luckier still and get to choose. I don't personally believe that God would judge the trapped ones harshly.

hiddenhome · 10/04/2012 22:18

Sophie, the Koran has ideas from the Bible contained within it.

SophieNeveau · 10/04/2012 22:38

There is something I find difficult regarding the new testament. When they decided which books to put in and take out, and were the dead sea scrolls found now for us so we could know the other gospels?

hiddenhome · 10/04/2012 22:40

You can track down the rejected Gospels Sophie.

hiddenhome · 10/04/2012 22:42

some here

hiddenhome · 10/04/2012 22:49

more here

SophieNeveau · 10/04/2012 23:18

thanks

chipmonkey · 11/04/2012 00:45

itchitch, I did struggle with the truth for a while, so much so that I decided that atheism was the only way to go as then there was no conflict. But then atheism didn't work either as it doesn't explain various phenomena I had heard of and experienced and it didn't work for me, as I couldn't believe this life was the only one.

I think there have been various leaders of different religions who all had insight that others don't have. Trouble is that humans are imperfect and a lot gets lost in translation. I think it's best to to look to a faith or religion for guidance but then to look into your own conscience which will rarely let you down when it comes to right and wrong.
