Well here you are then Smile I don't post often, but just to save Nickel a job...

OP posts:
nickelbarapasaurus · 23/05/2012 11:42

very true.

they can be sidespeople

nickelbarapasaurus · 24/05/2012 14:11

tonight's the night of the Meet-the-prospectives Grin

can't decide if i'm looking forward to it (in a -oops-i'm-nervous way)

Badvoc · 24/05/2012 17:05

nickel hope it goes well!

Its the meeting tonight re: provision for sunday club etc...might get a chance to talk to Rev re: youth co-ordinator role!....

thanksamillion · 24/05/2012 18:07

Big nights for nickel and Badvoc so hoping it all goes well.

nickelbarapasaurus · 25/05/2012 11:52

well, the meeting went very well.

Buffet was lovely, I felt a bit awkward because I'm one of those shy types (you'd never guess it would you!), but I mingled and ate, and it was all fine.

there was a man and a woman, both had spouses (the husband came along a bit later) - both spouses also spoke to people.
they were both very nice.
apparently, the man is the stronger candidate (both on paper and in person), but it could go either way.
the woman can't sing very well, so she was scared that we did sung Eucharist (ie the priesty bits)(which we don't) - but of course, we do the sung priesty bits at evensong! Shock (which has been done without a priest for 4 years now...)
the woman has two children, 15 girl and 18 man (was going to put boy, but he's 18!), and the man has 3 - 3,8 and 10. the 8 and 10 are boys, but i don't know about the 3yo. (I asked if they enjoyed singing! and apparently they're at that age where noting is cool... Wink )
He took DD without flinching or even looking bothered, when she was moaning a bit (she was bored and hot), and he held a conversation with me while she was grouching, without even looking like he noticed! (i was embarrassed, but he actually put me at ease)
I was a bit worried about him being better, because he looks like a comedy-show priest. Blush
both very nice.
couldn't choose myself - I really wanted to like the woman better, but we'll see what happens at the interview.
basically, this time we have good, strong candidates (it seems...), but if neither is suitable, then we can say "no!" and start again.
(which I don't think we had that joy with Knobhead)

Badvoc · 25/05/2012 17:25

Meeting went well.

Lots of meetings coming up next month wrt provision for sunday club til Sept.

I will probably end up co-ordinating it tbh (sigh) as no one else offered.

Glad the meeting went well nickel I know what you mean re: wanting to like the female candidate more (my MILs last minister was a woman and was fantastic) I am sure you will make the right decision.

Bluetinkerbell · 27/05/2012 15:09

Badvoc if you would like to have a chat about being a Youth & Families worker, let me know... I am one at our church! :)

nickel exciting about meeting your candidates! we've got all that to come in a few months years Wink

Badvoc · 27/05/2012 16:24

Thank you.

The Rev had a word with me after the service today and wants to put me forward as as foundation governor at the local school (which my dc go to) :)

I am really pleased about this :)

Badvoc · 27/05/2012 16:36

...any tips or pros/cons of being a governor also appreciated!!! [smile[

nickelbarapasaurus · 27/05/2012 17:31

so, you're being pushed up for all the youth jobs Wink

in that case, don't read Dave Walker's Cartoon Church on Youth Workers Grin
nor this one

Badvoc · 27/05/2012 18:23

hahahaha they are fab Smile

It would seem I am nickel but am glad to be. I have been wanting on the BofG for a while

Bluetinkerbell · 27/05/2012 18:50

Badvoc I am a Foundation Governor as well! Feel a bit useless though atm as our school has gone into a federation with 2 non-church schools and it seems that Foundation Governors don't have much say in things...

Bluetinkerbell · 27/05/2012 18:51

oh nickel I do like the second one! Just like I have been feeling lately Wink

Badvoc · 27/05/2012 18:54

I am looking forward to sitting in a meeting next week...I shall sit quietly and watch...and make the HT very nervous Smile

madhairday · 29/05/2012 10:35

Morning all

nickel, good that the evening went ok...I'm sure the right one will be chosen.

Things ticking along OK here....not been well again but a lot better now, ready for half term hopefully.

nickelbarapasaurus · 04/06/2012 12:20

ooh, it's been a while hasn't it!!

DD's baptism yesterday. It went really well. Everyone made comments about how good she was etc etc (well, yes, she's been going to church since she was 6 days old, of course she was good! home from home! Grin )
We did Stanford's Te Deum in Bb and it went really well, apart from a few little errors here and there. trick is to keep going!
There were loads of bits that were dead confusing, because I was involved, DH was involved, and the other organist was Godfather, there was a lot of moving around here there and everywhere! (where normally we'd be in our positions and carrying on as normal!)
We found our wedding cake, so chopped off rough edges and served that with wine afterwards. Everyone said it tasted lovely, and hopefully noone will be poorly! Grin
And we finished the service with the National Anthem.

We did have an announcement about the new vicar - The interviewed 2, as you kow, they offered one the job. that one decided they didn't want it after all, and so they have to start the procedure again.
I didn't ask why they didn't offer it to the other one, but i suppose it's just not done, is it!
The announcement read that they're worried that the parish profile doesn't accurately express our vision (or something like that) and aspirations, so they're going to re-write it and start again.
hopefully, someone will proofread the typos this time round. Hmm
We're all a bit worried that it won't be the parish profile that will have to change, but the parish aspirations . Especially as we've worked so hard over the interregnum to get the parish (2 churches now) to how they work well, smoothly and suit everyone who attends. It would be awful to have to change stuff just to get someone to work for us.
The thing that I think needs to be seen is that there's no point even thinking about change until they've got people in, and the only way they can do that is by publicity... (random word meaning getting people in by hook or by crook)
we need need need to sort out using the churches in ways other than for church services - not just St Mary's but St Michael's too. It's all very well Mr Events Man (that'll be the Someone from earlier...) making all the right nooises, but he really hasn't done much to get events here - a singing group singing every now and then, a st george's event. it's not enough! Even he didn't sort out the organ concert, we did - and we've done each one so far!
But Someone takes the credit for it!

thanksamillion · 04/06/2012 20:35

ooh nickel glad the baptism went well. How long have you been married for? We kept the top of our cake for ages but eventually threw it out!

Sorry that you didn't get a new vicar. I'm sure that the right person will turn up eventually.

newlark · 04/06/2012 20:54

Glad the baptism went well - we (or rather my mother) had kept a layer of our wedding cake (traditionally iced fruit cake from M&S, best before date approx 3 mths after the wedding) and brought it out for dds baptism nearly 4 years after our wedding - the icing was slightly hard and yellowed but the cake was fine (we did warn people of the age and had a new cake as an alternative just in case!)

nickelbarapasaurus · 04/06/2012 22:22

it was only Aug 2010. we weren't sure if it would still be okay, but it seemed fine Grin

yeah, we cut off the icing, too!

we'll get one - in a way i think most of us are relieved - it's always ben the case that the church gets on better without a priest "sticking his oar in" (as one person puts it!)

gingercurl · 08/06/2012 11:48

One for Nickel and MHD:

I stumbled across it accidentally and couldn't resist the temptation of posting it for you two - and for everyone else too, of course. GrinGrin

nickelbarapasaurus · 08/06/2012 13:03

it had better not be GK....Hmm

nickelbarapasaurus · 08/06/2012 13:05

that was okay actually.

i wonder where you'd get that arrangement.

i prefer it without the clapping.

nickelbarapasaurus · 08/06/2012 13:09

i've emailed the4 choir to find out.

it was less painful than the real version.
and no clapping! (sensing JC1 won't be happy without the clapping though!)

gingercurl · 08/06/2012 13:31

Wow! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was expecting you to be cringeing WinkSmile.

I thought it was OK, but then I'm not a SJS-enthusiast or passionate hater. I don't disapprove of that kind of music as such. Just find that particular song kind of 'meh' for some reason while other people seem to love it.

Agree about the clapping, though.

nickelbarapasaurus · 08/06/2012 16:08

I thought i would cringe, but it was okay.
meh is the word normally Grin
