Happy Ascension Day! Grin

I discovered the other day that DH hasn't called Sunday "Sunday after Ascension" but "7th of Easter" Confused

I don't know where his head was at...

MaryBS · 17/05/2012 10:29

I think that is grounds for divorce Nickel :o

nickelbabe · 17/05/2012 12:19

i agree.
or at least being thrown out of the church Grin

DutchOma · 17/05/2012 12:57

Don't joke about it. There are a couple of terrible stories about people being 'thrown out of the church' on Facebook.
But I'm sure your dh can do with our prayers for his lack of liturgical acumen.

Grin at lack of liturgical acumen

dh put 'Easter blessings' on an email yesterday.

I told him it was silly.

He said it's still Easter season.

Hmm
Bluetinkerbell · 17/05/2012 13:21

ugh had a meeting with our church wardens and vicar yesterday and then today been told that apparently going to church on Sunday doesn't count as working hours for me... it is optional Hmm which basically means my Tuesday off should disappear then, as I'm not 'working' on Sundays anymore... tried to debate it with our vicar, but he still won't budge about it. So socialising with the congregation isn't working hours anymore... grmbl... but if I do rehearsals afterwards then it is work...
For a year they've been very flexible with my working hours, but since I've had to hand in my sheets with working hours apparently they haven't been adding up... that's because I just don't put in everything I do... my work is just not possibly to put in clear hours... feel a bit down about it, probably pregnancy hormones aren't helping either :(

DutchOma · 17/05/2012 13:29

MHD Easter blessing surely last all year? The Lord is risen!! Grin

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 17/05/2012 14:27

it is still Easter season.
until today Grin

but I agree with Oma, you should be able to put it all year- everything since He rose is Easter! Grin

MaryBS · 17/05/2012 21:27

He's risen a bit further, as its Ascension Day :o

DutchOma · 18/05/2012 12:07

I wonder if it is like bread, which rises once and its then proved.
Or is that too irreverent?

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 18/05/2012 12:13
Grin what a brilliant analogy Oma

i'm getting annoyed about this thread at the moment
the number of people who seem to think that people doing stuff for the church shouldn't be paid for it!
and it's always the musicians who come up for flak - just because you enjoy doing your skill doesn't make it any less valuable in monetary terms. why do they think that churches shouldn't pay their musicians?! HmmAngry

MaryBS · 18/05/2012 13:25

There are some OUTRAGEOUS views on that thread nickel. For your sanity though, I think you need to step away. People don't want to listen, they want to rant.

MaryBS · 18/05/2012 13:25
DutchOma · 18/05/2012 13:40

OOerr, Mary

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 18/05/2012 13:48

I have stepped away - I put my last comment and have decided to ignore it now.
(putting it on here is partly my release from it!)

It is quite surprising how many unpaid posts there are in the church.

Bluetinkerbell · 18/05/2012 14:27

There are indeed a lot of unpaid posts in the church which are massively under appreciated!
But it doesn't surprise me as even the paid ones aren't Wink

MaryBS · 18/05/2012 14:43

You know I'm kidding. I don't do it for the money, and I'm sure most organists would say the same (I know that our organists gift aid their payments back to the church, for instance). Glad you've stepped away though Nickel, its just a bit too close. I

Grin

We've got a thing next Thursday, whee the PCC gets to meet the candidates for the Vicar post. (it's the day before the interviews)
I was panicking that I couldn't go, but it's 7-8:30, so actually I can go and leave at 8 (I've got belly dancing, and it's the last rehearsal before a gig so I can't miss it)

DutchOma · 18/05/2012 16:20

The mind truly boggles Nickel. Grin

OP posts:
Tuo · 18/05/2012 18:33

Please tell me that you're going to go along to the PCC to meet the new prospective vicars in your belly-dancing garb, nickel...

Oh, go on...! Do it for those of us with no life and in need of vicarious [sic] thrills--!

It'd be a good test of the mettle of the candidates, wouldn't it? If they don't blink when you turn up in belly-dancing gear, then they are in.

Tuo · 18/05/2012 18:34

Bother... messed up my ... crossing out.
thrills

DutchOma · 18/05/2012 21:24

I like the vicar--ious thrills Tuo

OP posts:
Tuo · 18/05/2012 22:49

Grin It's been a long week, and now I'm feeling mischievous!

nickelbabe · 19/05/2012 10:45

no, i won't be Grin

but i need a good question.
something to probe them as to what their ethos is - we need someone who accepts both modern and traditional worship, but not only that, but someone who wants to encourage both - so improve the choir here and get more musicians there - whilst treating us-lot-who-have-run-the-church-for-4-years as important people with a large amount of autonomy.

So, something like "Variety is the spice of life true or false" or "the church needs to look forward and not worry so much about tradition true or false" or "music is an important part of worship true or false" or "choral tradition is old-fashioned and moves need to be towards more instrument-based msci true or false" or "the vicar is in charge of the running of the church and all final decisions should be made by him/her true or false"

something that covers it all would be better.
