TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 06/04/2012 19:40

oh ffs

[busmile]

Have i got it this time??

nickelhasababy · 07/04/2012 10:52

bu [bugrin]

nickelhasababy · 07/04/2012 11:02

I saw the other chat thread - nearly went on to say "hey!! what'choo doin'? my thread idea!", but it had a lot of non-christians on there, so I thought it was better not to say anything - leave it to all believers, rather than just christian ones like this one is [busmile]

TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 07/04/2012 11:59

Yes I saw that nickel, I hadn't realised it was more an all believers in anything thread, which is a good idea too. But they couldn't discuss GK in the style we do, I feel [bugrin]

nickelhasababy · 07/04/2012 12:04

exactly [bugrin]

they need their own thread unsoiled by GK

TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 07/04/2012 12:09

[bugrin]

Yep. Or the hideous book.

nickelhasababy · 07/04/2012 13:19

we found yet another hymn that was different in the melody-version from the words-only and full music version.
Hmm
totally useless editors!

TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 07/04/2012 17:29

Aaaagh. We may disagree on a few points regarding church music nickel m'dear but we are of firm solidarity on the hideous book and the adaptions of the perfectly good originals therein. [bugrin] We used it in a service I went to on Good Friday and I sniggered. Quietly, into my scarf but still, sniggered a little.

TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 08/04/2012 14:12

Hope you're all having a happy easter! We had a wonderful service this morning, just loved it. :)

newlark · 08/04/2012 21:31

Haven't posted for ages... Did anyone see the "morning" easter relection on WordLive the last few days - it was very moving - telling the Easter story from Mary's perspective. It really captured the sense of hopelessness, grief, anger and confusion after Jesus' death then the awakening of hope and excitement as the reality of the resurrection dawned on her. I've not felt so aware of the extremes of emotions over Easter before, felt really excited this morning to say He is risen indeed, Allelulia!

PandaG · 08/04/2012 22:07

Happy Easter everyone! [bugrin]

I've not seen the reflections newlark, but we had a series of reading from different character's perspectives at the holy week meditations. Straight from the Bible, but just spoken aloud with the stress as if it was say Judas. Very moving.

Don't think we've ever been asked to help serve communion before, and on Maundy Thursday DH was one of 12 men who took the parts of the disciples preparing the passover meal (ie carrying the bread and wine to the front then sharing communion together) as that Bible reading was read, then serving communion for the congregation. DH and I were then asked as we arived at church this morning if we would serve.

Was such a fab service - lots of flags and dancing and 4 drummers playing bongos in the band, then we went outside to take communion around the foot of the cross which stands in the middle of the church campus. He is risen indeed. Hallelujah!

TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 09/04/2012 10:08

Sounds amazing Panda - and amen! Love Easter, and the victory of the resurrection - yay :)

Annoyed that it's raining today, was going to have a bbq and easter egg hunt but it's too yuk, so we're postponing, and just having some friends for tea instead.

thanksamillion · 09/04/2012 11:08

Happy Easter everyone! We're not celebrating until next week because the church here uses the Orthodox calender so it seems a bit strange!

TheGreatestmadhairDayinHistory · 10/04/2012 10:02

Milly wow that must feel strange but nice too. Are Easter eggs a thing where you are? Hi newlark :)

Hope you're all enjoying easter, to all those mia - Mary, DO, TUO, Blue, lost, jaffa etc etc...

nickelhasababy · 12/04/2012 12:04

Happy Easter!

i know i'm delayed, but never late to wish happy Easter! Grin

of course, some still in Lent, blessings for Maundy Thursday, milly :)

thanksamillion · 12/04/2012 14:12

Thanks nickel!

Church service this evening then making hot cross buns with the DCs tomorrow morning...

nickelhasababy · 12/04/2012 14:25

bleurgh (but yummy for you i'm sure!)

best thing about being an adult - Salvation Army woman handing out hot cross buns on Good Friday - I was able to say "no thanks I don't like them" rather than have to accept and eat something I don't like (still bitter memories from that as a child.)
Grin

thanksamillion · 12/04/2012 19:03

Ha ha nickel. Actually I didn't like them until a few years ago, or mince pies. I blame it on a lifetime of attending church events and being forced to eat nasty dry badly made versions. I'm sure there are some brilliant bakers who take stuff to these events but they certainly didn't live in my village Grin

newlark · 13/04/2012 08:25

We love hot cross buns and start eating them as soon as they appear in the shops :) actually it seems you can get them all year round in some shops which seems a bit odd Grin

nickelhasababy · 13/04/2012 11:39

Good Friday event at church - favourite part of the year, apart from the Hot cross bun thing.
vicar (who i loved - best vicar ever!) got us all round in a circle, told us the story behind HXBs and made us eat a piece.
yuckyyuckyuck
I once tried to pas mine to my sister and i got a proper rollicking from it.

I don't like the fruity bits in them.

creatovator · 14/04/2012 10:03

Nickel I'd say sneak it to me as I love HXBs, but am on a healthy eating programme at the moment and just have to look longingly at the ones I bought for our family Sad.

Newlark I saw them all year round a couple of years ago, but not last year. I think some shops did a version of a bun without a cross instead (not teacakes), but can't remember what they were called. (They were still yummy) Grin.

madhairday · 16/04/2012 16:43

Afternoon everyone. The dc are back at school so things getting back in a routine here.

I'm finding life rather frustrating atm. Want things to take off more and impatient about it all. Slightly jealous of normal vicar families Hmm Things are happening, but I just want the entire area to come to know God and start a megachurch. Like to think small, me Wink I do feel a little lonely in it all - have made a number of friends so should be grateful but it all feels so.....nothingy at the moment. Just need somewhere to let off steam a little.....plus the fact I'm not entirely seeing eye to eye with dh as to how we go about certain stuff....nothing huge but of course I know best Grin

Hmmm. Twill be fine, but at the moment I just want to hide away until it's all happening a bit more, you know....it's hard.

thejaffacakesareonme · 16/04/2012 17:01

MHD - maybe you'll look back at these days in the future and remember them fondly as days when you had a bit more time (to mumsnet!).

I was listening to a radio programme yesterday which mentioned the Titanic. Apparently, the band played Nearer My God to Thee as the ship sank. I think it is amazing that the bandsmen had that faith and level of composure. I'd have been running around in a blind panic trying to dismatle anything that was made of wood in the hope that I could use it as a raft.

PandaG · 16/04/2012 19:44

Hugs MHD.

I am trying very hard to trust, but finding it very difficult. Should have exchanged today, ready to complete on Friday, but our lenders need to agree something (should be ok but I am having kittens that they will refuse the mortgage at this late stage), and our buyers are asking for some extra paperwork (not a problem, solicitor is drawing something up). Want to trust in God in it all, and in the grand scheme of things I know his way is perfect, but right now I am trying not to burst into tears as survey the piles of boxes around me...!
