I know we've not officially finished the last one, but I wanted to get the link in before we ran out of room!

Everyone welcome - the aim of this thread is to generally chat about church life, or just gossip in general!
You don't have to be a regular church-goer, nor do you have to know what we're going on about!
It's not about debate, it's just about chatting
:)

we did an anthem of the Lord is My shepherd by SS Wesley on Sunday - I can't find a Youtube, so I might have to upload ours (although the bass is very quiet)

Oh dear, and I did mean to make it clear which one was the true one! Oops!

nickelbabe · 13/10/2011 11:38

don't worry about it Grin

I did click on it in the end.
but i didn't listen to it, because I've heard it before.
in fact, we've even done it in our church (as a choir anthem) - not long ago. the lady who's in charge of music at St Mary's recommended it, we heard it and then she told us it was stuart townend. naughty, naughty lady!

no, i';m wrong - it was a congregational hymn.
church warden was very impressed and laughed at the choice, because she knows what we're like!
it was a while ago now - we did a special hymn booklet for Lent so that we could have stuff that wasn't in the Hideous book, and we included that as one of them.

I like it sung unaccompanied. We quite often sing at least one verse unaccompanied in church and I think it sounds really good.

Lost - praying everything works out for you and that you get lots of practical support locally.

Veggie haggis is honestly lovely. I think it is best with neeps (you could have swede) and mashed potato. THe swede needs to be cooked with quite a bit of salt and have brown sugar added when it is mashed, otherwise it tastes horrid. Proper haggis is great too. Mmmm. Must buy some now it is getting a bit colder. Is it Macsweens? I think it is the best.

madhairday · 13/10/2011 11:54

What on earth is neeps?? Grin

It's 'Stahly quality foods.'

The thought of haggis turns my stomach but the veggie haggis sounds good, anyone got a recipe?

thejaffacakesareonme · 13/10/2011 12:11

Neeps are turnips, but to be honest most people even up here eat swede.

nickelbabe · 13/10/2011 12:21

mhd - you will be able to get it from Sainsbury's soon.

madhairday · 13/10/2011 12:24

I like that word. Neeps. Tis a satisfying word. Reminds me of the stokie word 'sneeped' which means 'annoyed or pissed of with'. That pleases me too Grin

Yay at Sainsbos veggie haggis nickel, bring it on!

nickelbabe · 13/10/2011 12:27
Grin

I must remember to get more this year - I bought 2 last year (for the freezer) and ran out too quickly!

We're planning to get a freezer for when the baby comes and we have no spare time to prepare food, so if I get a few, then I can put them in there. Grin

I'm currently producing a video for the Wesley Lord is My Shepherd, and I'll try to put it in youtube today.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 13/10/2011 12:29

madhairday · 13/10/2011 15:37

mmm looks nice.

Remind me when you are due again nickel? How's it all going? How are you feeling? :)

nickelbabe · 13/10/2011 16:07
SS Wesley's The Lord is My Shepherd Not bad at all, i thought.

(at evensong, we now put the video camera in the pulpit and point ti to the ceiling - it really improves the sound, as it doesn't pick out any particular person's voice, so it sounds a lot more professional Grin )

nickelbabe · 13/10/2011 16:08

sorry mhd - didn't mean to ignore you!

I'm due on advent sunday.
It's going reallywell, but my shoulder won't stop hurting (it feels like i've been in the wrong postiion too long, but it stops when I move, and then start again. very annoying)

thejaffacakesareonme · 14/10/2011 10:16

PA - that video looks amazing. They seem to do so much good work out there.

lostinafrica · 15/10/2011 16:11

Hello, just checking in. We're now surrounded by suitcases and wondering how to fit the rest of our stuff into the rest of our suitcases! We've sold a lot and binned a lot...

... and now we're hearing that we might be given an extension. Which is NOT what I want to hear at this stage - we have almost nothing left to live from now! DH wants to do a business trip that is awkward to rearrange, so hopes for the extension to be granted. We'll find out tomorrow morning.

nickelbabe · 15/10/2011 16:15

:( Not good that you don't even know one day to the next what's happening.

Prayers that it all goes well, and as best to plan as possible.

Lost - praying. It must be so difficult dealing with such uncertainty

DutchOma · 16/10/2011 14:51

Prayers...

PandaG · 16/10/2011 15:55

Praying for you Lost. I would find it very difficult feeling so uncertain. Praying His presence is tangible for you this week.

Great service at church today - was Vision Sunday, first one since the current leaders took over. Very encouraging.

MaryBS · 17/10/2011 09:45

Any more news Lost? You said you'd know more yesterday? Praying...

madhairday · 17/10/2011 16:10

Praying for you Lost :(

So how was everyone's weekend? Panda, vision sunday sounds interesting, was that like where the church leaders share the mission action plan/core values type thing?

Had a good morning yesterday, went to the other sponsoring church which is a big evangelical church, was great, I like them both in different ways. Have to preach there on sun with dh [scared]

PandaG · 17/10/2011 17:32

yes MHD - Vision Sunday happens once a year, leaders sharing where they think the church is going, what God has been saying to them about the direction mission is going etc. Big ideas, and a great big God. Response to the sermon was to go forward and write our prayers for our city on 2 huge blackboards at the front - so exciting to see what is on other people's hearts for our city.

Sung a couple we did at NW - our God is Greater, which I really like, DD and a bunch of her mates were dancing their hearts out at the front, I was dancing with her while the worship team were practising - we were there early as DH was on visuals and I was heading up prayer team. I love to see DD worshipping God through dancing (and I like doing ot myself when the rest of the congregation can't see!)

Lost - still praying for you. please update us when you can.
