Spring into Summer - Christian Prayer Thread

DutchOma · 17/05/2011 20:18

It always amazes me to see the range of things we pray for: from praying for people with cancer at the one end of the range to praying for a lost telephone. With difficult mothers-in-law, marital difficulties and unfeeling fellow Christians all wrapped up in it somewhere.
And knowing with joyful certainty that God hears us all, that no request is too frivolous for Him and that He loves to hear our prayers.
So, I just want to pick out a few highlights to keep our prayers focussed:
We pray for Amberlight and Sweetestthing who are dealing with cancer. We commit the two of you to the care of our Lord and look forward to you sharing your progress with us. We are here for you, knowing how important praying friends are ? there is scientific evidence for this.

Then, there are a few of us struggling with health issues:- Madhairday and Gingercurl?s sister. I would also like to mention my dh, Bob, here. I so value your prayers because I find it very difficult to pray for myself and for him when the going gets tough.

BlackeyedSusan and Teaandcakeplease are both dealing with the break-up of their marriage and bringing up their children on their own. We pray for strength and also for the undivided support of the churches they belong to. Especially in BES? case we could wish for a bit more understanding.

With CazandBelle we rejoice over the latest scan and pray for peace of mind for the rest of the pregnancy. Do share your feelings with us Caz, if you are able.

PositiveAttitude brought two prayer requests concerning her dds. Dd2 was in a car crash a few weeks ago and really needed another car. Wonderfully, her boyfriend was able to come to her rescue. And dd3 lost her phone on a trip that was a miracle in itself after her recent illness. Here again, prayer was answered and a new phone supplied.

Dippy, we love you, thanks for prompting us to do a new summary. We grieve with you over the loss of friends, but rejoice over birthday parties and broody chickens.

Let?s pray.

Evening, all. Day 2 of radiotherapy done and dusted and feeling fine, although pretty tired today (don't think that's necessarily a by-product of the r/t, more just general weariness). I've updated my blog (in a moment of madness, I submitted it to MNHQ for consideration for their bloggers' network - eek!) if anyone wants to read more, rather than indulge on here.

Sad news today - an old friend from way back died from a heart attack this morning. His wife died in her sleep several years ago and one of their sons also died (I think both those deaths were epilepsy related) and he leaves two adult sons and a teenaged daughter. Heartbreaking news. Please pray for a very bereft family if you can.

DutchOma · 29/07/2011 08:56

Praying SweetestThing. Praying for you on your third day of radio therapy and the end of the first week, praying for your friend's family.

May the peace of God be with you all

how are you today sweetest?

still "icky" and got the dizzies again, caused by vertigo, which can be caused by ear injuries... so of course i am thinking it has been caused by a thump on the head. not sure if it has to be recent thump, but it is a horrible reminder. and today is the day we are meeting h, pils, sil for dc's birthday meal. got the grumpies too.

hope you are all ok. praqying on and off when i get chance.

SweetestThing · 29/07/2011 11:50

bes sorry you are still icky :( From what I hear from other friends, there is a nasty bug going around which causes light-headedness and sickness, so perhaps that is what you have?

I am okay - have felt nauseous yesterday morning and again today, which apparently is not unusual in the early stages of radiotherapy and should pass. Fingers crossed it will! Music chosen for Day 3 :)

Praying for all.

JentlyDoesIt · 29/07/2011 20:21

Evening all :)

Sitting here with a filthy cold, temperature and getting over the bug that sweetest has just described so consoling self with large glass of vin rose...

Talking of the v brave sweetest prayers for your continuing radiotherapy my lovely. Please could you link your blog? I've missed it before... I've submitted mine to MN as well - eeeek with you!

Amber my darling, how goes it?

Sooooooooozi long time no see, how ya' doing? Nearly our birthday again :)

Bluetinkerbell so pleased you have some answers for the lovely little Sterre. Much love to you and thanks for "friending" my other self on FB Wink

BES yeps, I've had that bug this week too, I had my first ever migraine on Weds with it. Peace and healing for you.

DO prayers for your DS and DDIL and their little one xx You are a much loved lady xx

Took the kids to see DP today. After 7 months, it hasn't got any easier bringing them away from their Daddy after 2 brief hours. DD is in a "I don't like anyone but Mummy" phase which I think DP found hard too. Still, today marks another month off the list and brings it a month closer to him being home. Spring 2013 is still an awful long time away though.

Enough from me, off for some mind numbing telly I think

MaryBS · 29/07/2011 21:09

Lots to pray for, lots of prayers for you all.

I like my new priest :)

SweetestThing · 30/07/2011 09:59

mary , glad you like your new priest :)

Jently, you are one brave lady, I tell you! It must be so difficult for you and your DP when your DD looks as if she is rejecting him because she's in a "Mummy velcro" phase.

My blog is sweetestthing-ali.blogspot.com - it's just my ramblings, so don't expect a work of great literary merit :) Struggling with nausea at the moment - it's ironic, I sailed through both pregnancies with no morning sickness and I get it now!!

Prayers for everyone else. It's beautifully sunny here today and I hope everyone else is enjoying warmth and sunshine, either literal or metaphorical - or both!!

blackeyedsusan · 30/07/2011 10:50

Must be a bug going round then... sorry that you are the latest victim sweetest...

Jently, how are you today? it must be really hard work trying to keep everything going. I suspect it is like being a single parent with a whole lot more heaped on top.

ZipadiSoozi · 30/07/2011 12:00

hahaha, just starting to sqeak out from under the pews, and you tell me there is a 'virtual bug' trying to get rid of me already!

I have a whole bottom lip that is double the size in cold sores, and a floating gland under my chin the size of a big plum and swollen glands, but... I don't feel too bad, thank you god!

Jently, yes our b'days do come round quickly! I'm 50 in September (feel 90) looking forward to a 'surprise weekend away' thing is my dh has spent our summer holiday budget which was for 2 weeks, clever isn't he - grr bless him he meant well!

Will try and make the summer meet, just trying to sort the logistics of it... train or car mixed with birthday parties and everything else that comes with a family!

I am trying to reply to some of these prayer requests but mn has changed and I will have to write things down then reply, cause once I come into type a message. all the posts arn't there to refer to - the joys of being computer illiterate.

In the meantime, prayers for all you lovely ladies, especially the poorly ones! xx

P.S Waves back Mary - youhooooo!!!!!!
and Jently, amber CD, TACP, Duchoma, SS, CC OJ, PA the list goes on! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Bluetinkerbell · 30/07/2011 13:30

Hi all,

Just letting you all know we're leaving on holiday to Taizé in France tonight for a week, so I will be praying there for you all!

See you when I get back! lots of love and prayers!

blackeyedsusan · 30/07/2011 20:34

have a good time.

gingercurl · 30/07/2011 21:52

am/have been lurking and praying, as usual.

MaryBS · 31/07/2011 09:41

Envy at taize (mea culpa) Blue, enjoy it :)

Should be getting ready for church really...

SweetestThing · 31/07/2011 09:47

Morning, all. Taize sounds great - we often sing Taize chants at church but I have never experienced a Taize service.

No church for me this morning as I am still feeling as if I am going to throw up (sorry! Hope no one is eating their breakfast!) - I know I will be fine by early afternoon but I really don't want to risk any embarrassing scenes during the service :(

SESthebrave · 31/07/2011 10:04

Am around and thinking of / praying for you all. Life is just stupidly busy - mainly because my boss is on hols for 2 and a bit weeks and I'm covering for him as well as doing my own job.

Blue - I'm glad you were reassured by what the hospital told you.
Some uni friends went to Taize but I couldn't go as I had resits. I was really Envy then and now of you! Hope you enjoy!

Jently - have read your blog and I agree - you are one amazing woman. Prayers for you, your DH and DC

Sweetest - I must take a look at your blog too! When things aren't quite so hectic, I'll be in touch to arrange meeting up :)

Prayers here currently for the family of an ex work colleague. She'd been fighting breast cancer for a couple of years and last week fell down the stairs and died from the resulting head injury. Life is so unpredictable and fragile sometimes.

MrsCadwallader · 31/07/2011 16:44

Good afternoon all, and apologies once again for sailing back in after another long absence (I have been prompted by a PM from DO which has reminded me how long it has been since I came on here Blush)

I hope everyone is well. I have had a quick skim read over the last few pages but will go back in more detail and pray properly in a minute. Amber and sweetest - how are things going with you? Prayers for your continued treatment and recovery.

Things are ok here - I passed this year's exams well, so praise God for that :) I would appreciate prayers though for my health - I haven't felt properly well since before my exams (which were mid-June), with recurrent bouts of tonsilitis and very swollen and uncomfortable glands for the last 6-7 weeks. I have had a course of antibiotics and blood tests that have all come back clear, but no answers as to what is wrong with me or how to make it better! Logic tells me that I am probably just worn out after a VERY busy few years, but it is frustrating and depressing to not be able to get on with my life as I would want to. I had a great long list of things I wanted to do after my exams (including training for a half-marathon Hmm) but have done none of them! I gave up praying for recovery last Sunday and started praying for patience and trust and acceptance instead - I am sure there is a lesson that God wants me to learn here! But any prayers you can add to the mix would be gratefully receievd.

I do hope you are all enjoying the summer. Prayers for you all :)

DutchOma · 31/07/2011 19:58

Well, my dear MrsC, looking at your story and looking at all the things you have done and wanted to do, if I were your body I would also say "Do it yourself, I'm not playing ball".
How much rest have you actually taken, how many roses smelled?
I think healing will come when you accept that you are not a work machine programmed to perform, but a human being put on this earth to enjoy God's presence with you. Half marathon indeed Grin

MrsCadwallader · 31/07/2011 20:20

Well, exactly, DO :-o hence feeling there is a lesson in there!

Me: "Ooh, goody, exams done, no real break had for the last 2 years - what shall I do next?"

God (clearing throat loudly): "Well, my dear, thou shalt rest, learn to be still and know that I am God. Capishe?"

Me (meekly): "Oh. Right. But, couldn't I just....?"

God (stern): "No buts!"

Me: "But....."

God: "Zip it!"

Me: "Oh. Ok......'

:-o

MrsCadwallader · 31/07/2011 20:21

Smileys went badly wrong there....Confused

Teaandcakeplease · 31/07/2011 20:31

DS is still waking at 5.30am, sometimes sooner. I keep trying to drop his nap and then having to reinstate it at the moment. He was awful at church this morning in creche, they actually asked me to come and get him as he was hurting other children (scratching, biting etc Sad). I'm actually starting to wonder where I've gone wrong with him on days like today! They gave him quite a few warnings and time outs but he was being too aggressive and not sharing/ and or snatching.

Trouble is DD at home can be so mean to him and unkind and I think he's now processing it and doing the same to others. Being in a 2 bed flat with no easy access to a garden does mean I think that they're on top of each other too much. I'm reading again a great book called "Siblings without rivalry" to refresh my artillery of what to do. But some of it is aimed at older children. I think prayer maybe the next step tbh! Summer holidays and having them both at home all day is probably making it worse. I do try and get out everyday for some of it, but on a budget it is fairly limited on what we do. Please pray they learn to live peacefully together, I have wisdom on handling their fighting and that DS starts to sleep better, please please please?

DutchOma · 31/07/2011 20:50

I'm with God here mrsC. Smile Just learn to say "Thank you" nicely. Smile Grin Are you taking any echinacea?

TACP Very difficult situation. Have you tried letting him have a nap when he wants it? I often found that the better they slept during the day, the better they slept at night. But maybe you have already tried all that. It is difficult getting out from a flat especially if you are tired yourself.
Is dd being put in time out the minute she is mean to ds? She is a big girl now and being mean to your little brother is not really on. Is there any way you can 'park' her for an afternoon and have some time with ds and also the other way round. Having one child on its own is so much easier than having the two together especially if they sqabble.
Don't even think that you have 'gone wrong' anywhere, all children squabble, and you are bringing them up under very difficult circumstances.

OP posts:
Teaandcakeplease · 31/07/2011 20:57

DD always gets a time out if she is mean, yes. Off to bed soon, having trouble keeping my eyes open.

MrsCadwallader · 31/07/2011 21:57

DO no, but I have industrial strenght vitamins :o

TACP it is SO difficult at this stage. I've lost track of how old your two are, but I know all 3 of mine went though long stages of waking VERY early in the morning. I don't think there is a huge amount you can do, other than wait for the stage to pass (and go to bed as early as you possibly can yourself!). I'm sorry, I wish there was a magic answer!

I also had one summer holiday (when mine were 4, 2 and 9 months old) where every morning, before we did anything else, even tidying up the breakfast things, I would take them to the park for 20-30 minutes (we are lucky and have a small playground just round the corner). We would be there at 8.30am quite often Shock which sounds crazy, but what it did do was take the edge off the boundless energy and the aggression that inevitably followed. It also meant that (having been OUT somewhere) I would cope much better with the rest of the day. The boys were all happier and calmer which meant that it was a billion times easier for me to get all the essential house jobs done (washing up done, get the washing in, quick tidy up, etc) and THEN, by about 10.30am we were free to decide what we wanted to do for the day. Is there somewhere you can go and try something similar?

In the meantime, prayers for you all - I hope you catch up on some sleep tonight.

blackeyedsusan · 01/08/2011 09:54

tough isn't it?

remember that if the toddler books have chapters on biters, then it is a common problem and you are not the only one. I as lucky in that I owned the biter and the bitten one so no major embarressment of apologising. had a fair few lumps taken out of me too.

ZipadiSoozi · 01/08/2011 10:11

Aw, prayers for you TACP... I have the same problem with mine although my eldest is 15yo and twins are 7yo - I find they only get on each others nerves when they are getting bored, so I try to wait in anticipation for the signs of boredom before I take mine out. We havent got a local park to go to before the day starts, good idea though Mrs C

My eldest ds is better when I give him some responsibility, like take one of his siblings to shops to just buy bread, or make some lego with his brother, whilst dd and I do something else. Although they all like to do drawing competitions and hide and seek, which is tricky in confined spaces!

Prayers a plenty for all our beautiful dc in the holiday times and indeed for parent patience and clarity!

xxxx

Happy Mondays, just off to do mundane shopping duties, sigh! but then the dc have chosen to paint pasta today outside in this heat!
