I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

ooops Blush - forgot I changed last night for kucking's thead

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 11:05

Hi lyra Grin

you're welcome here, any time!
It's merged more into a chat thread with people of a christian nature.
almost athread where you can be a christian and not worry about whether someone will try to persuade you otherwise Hmm

your all age service doesn't sound very inclusive, does it? basically saying everyone has to be bored no matter what age! Shock
In our church, (well, St Mary's) the all age service is much more catered to the kids, so it's full of songs and dancing, rather than a normal church service iyswim.

It's good that you had the option of going to a later service, too.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 11:09

it's kind of a canticles, charisma and chat for Christian types Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 11:13

oh and PA - DS's leg a lot better thanks. Still quite sore, but apparently not as bad as yesterday,

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 11:13

i like that Grin

I can't believe it's been going so long, too - normally when i start a thread noone replies and it dies.

I'm glad for this thread, though, cos IRL, i can't really talk about churchy stuff, because noone that i know outside of church does this kind of thing .
I'm very lucky to have married DH, because my ex used to look down his snotty nose on church all the time .

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 11:14

good, glad he's mending.

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 11:24

other churchy stuff I do includes mums' Bible study, well it's open to anyone but in reality only mums come so far, as it's at 915 Mon morn just after sch drop off, fun chatty and a bit challenging; cook once a month for Boaz homeless shelter at our church; join in the 'cooking in a crisis' rota my friend runs; sing in a gospel choir; help run a bible based toddler group and help with kids groups at church. phew! sounds like a lot, but feels like never quite enough. oh also pray about once a week with 2 other mums.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 11:53

yes I thought it was rather clever Wink - both ends of the worship spectrum and everything in between Grin

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 12:20

wow, lyra, how do you have time for anything else?
Shock

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 12:23

yes, netball, swimming, dog walks, elderly mum duty, washing, lunch out, the Archers, coffees and chats with friends, a bit of work here and there (speech therapy), book group, trying to lose weight...I could go on, but you are probably drifting off at this point.

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 12:24

but I don't have time to clean my house. Wink

I pay people to do that.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 12:25

I'm Envy that you pay people to clean your house Grin

I could list everything I do for church and other stuff - but I'd probably send myself to sleep never mind the rest of you Blush

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 12:31

oops sorry if you're snoring. I promise no more lists.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 12:35

Blush - no I did't mean that Blush

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 12:36

I actually love lists Grin (I just happen to lead a very dull and boring life so my list of what I do is most definitely snooze worthy LOL)

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 12:52

ok.
what did you have for lunch today, or didn't you eat yet? what are you planning? I've had soup, bread and an orange and I'm gonna get on with making something for tea soon. we're all out to a party 5-7 so we need to eat early or late, and I need to get it sorted before school run time.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 12:54

I had a cheese and cheap ham sandwich and 2 slices of malt loaf (oh and coffee and fag).

Am off to Toddlers at church in a bit. Though I'm knackered and ay have a lie down.........so hopefully I won't sleep too long

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 12:55

she didn't mean that she didn't want to hear your lists, she meant that her own lists are snoreworthy.

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 12:56

I used to love malt loaf.
can't even smell it now. Confused

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 12:58

why aren't my striking outs workings?

Thank you nickel for removing my foot from my mouth (I think that's 3 times this last week I''ve had to have it removed Confused Blush)

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 13:00

I must confess to a bit of a spiritual struggle in the past 2 weeks. We have a very fit and lovely Christian workman doing a loft conversion atm, and it's a struggle to keep my thoughts on track....

Nothing really to worry about though, a girl can dream can't she?

thanksamillion · 17/02/2011 13:02

hello everyone
I had toasted cheese sandwiches and just had a slice of apple cake that I made this morning with a cup of tea (it's mid afternoon now). No warmer here today and it snowed this morning Sad.

I'm in awe of your list lyra. How old are you DCs?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 17/02/2011 13:02

lyra - my mantra on that is that it's human nature to think stuff like that - and as long as it stays in your mind and you don't try and do anything about it it'sa bsolutely fine.

Lets not forget that Jesus had all the human emotions, I doubt very much that he grew up as a young man without thinking at least once or twice "ooo she's nice"......but then just had to remind himself why he was there Smile

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 13:03

you have to think in terms of spiritual brotherhood! Grin

you'll be fine.

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 13:04

that's true - i bet he fancied Mary Magdalene.
