I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

joining you nickel and bringing a hot water bottle (it's VERY cold here today).

Hope leapfrog goes well Baroque

I've got to go in a bit to collect DD1 from school as DH has taken the car to the city. Am seriously contemplating putting a hot water bottle in DD2s pram to keep her warm (an hours walk there and back - current temp according to the bbc is -8!). Did I mention it's cold Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/02/2011 11:26

haha - I hadn't noticed your name change Grin

I don't know what it is with DS1, just gotta keep on praying and supporting him and pointing him in the right direction I guess.

Yes DS2 not broken, but I keep worrying that he's damaged something in his knee (really should know better than to google knee injuries..........).

Nearly finished the leapfrog service now, and have done some housework too!!

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 11:27

it's not that cold here (thankfully!)
but it is cold, and i've had to put my heater on.
i'm crochetting a new blanket for my new nephew, so that's keeping me a little bit warmer, but not much.
(cos my left hand is cold and nothing seems to warm it up)

BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew
i hope i haven't missed anyone!

make sure you put a cloth cover on the HWB, or it'll freeze! Shock

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 11:28

sorry, i borke the last cup....
Brew
hope it didn't spill on anyone.

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 11:30

housework???
what is it with all the women round here today, ironing and housework?
my living room floor needs hoovering. imight do it tonight...
or tomorrow.
(only fair cos DH did the upstairs on the weekend)

i've put DS1 on my prayer list, too.
I'm sure it's just a pre-teen thing - they go through phases, don't they.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/02/2011 11:52

I hope it's pre-teen thing. You know his voice wobbled and dropped a couple of semitones last year. I have a suspicions he's got a million (male) hormones racing round his body right now as well. exH and I were both early starters - so it's highly likely that the DS's will be too.

Yes I have to do some housework - my house falls to pieces when I get onto video making, and pointlessly faffing with powerpoint to set up the services.

thanksamillion · 16/02/2011 12:15

I don't envy you the teen thing Baroque - I've got all that to come although DD1 does a fairly good impression of a stroppy teen for one who isn't yet 6!

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 13:51

I'm sure that's what it is then.
:)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/02/2011 13:55

well - yes - that mixed with the other issues - not a good combination. Have just finished the leapfrog service (not cutting things fine or anything Grin).

Fish and Chip night tonight - woohoo.

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 13:56

cool, what's going on in your leapfrog service, then?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/02/2011 14:03

this month we're doing "lurvvv" (well it was Valentines day on Monday). Basing it around Corninthian 13:1-13. We're all superheroes for Jesus as we can all love - and that's the most important thing - we don't need to be able to do antyhing amazing etc etc.

We've actually mostly used what we did on Sunday for the All Age Worship (which we led) Grin

I have to remember to take my phone as the story bit I have to remember to ring my friends phone as she's doing it - because God rings her to tell her she's got it all wrong and that all the superheroes (spiderman, and other "made up ones") aren't really that great, and that DS1 (who is playing "ordinary person") is actually the most special because he can love people.

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 14:49

"We're all superheroes for Jesus as we can all love - and that's the most important thing - we don't need to be able to do antyhing amazing etc etc."

that's a lie, then, isn't it?
cos they obviously can do somethign amazing.
being able to love is amazing. Grin

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 14:50

i like the phone bit! Grin

TotallyUnheardOf · 16/02/2011 16:51

Just had to pop in quickly to share this. I think I have infected DD2 (nearly 9) with my more boring traditional approach.

DD2: I don't like it when we have Church Assembly in school. [It's a VC CofE Primary, so people from the church come in and take assembly once a week]

Me: Oh dear, why not?

DD2: They say the Lord's Prayer all wrong.

Me: What do you mean 'all wrong'?

DD": [scathing] They say 'Hallowed be your name' and 'Your will be done', and everyone knows that it's thy. And [even more disgusted] they say 'Forgive us our sins!' instead of trespasses. It's just not right. Shock

Grin
nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 16:56
Grin

too right!

I think you should get him to tell the teacher.

tradition is good.
at least he understands what he's saying.

nickelbabe · 16/02/2011 16:58

the thing with "your will be done", when i heard that version, i just couldn't work out how it was correct - as far as i was concerned, they were saying "your will be done" - because will be done is a verb.
i understood in old fashioned english it meant "your objective/desire will be done", but the "will be" part to me was the "be" meaning "will be" and in modern english, the "will be" meant future tense of "do"

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 16/02/2011 19:46

hahahaha sorry Nickel - I have to laugh - just been showing DS1 Thorns in the Straw and at 3.20 it sounds like "she washed him through the years" Grin Blush

madhairday · 16/02/2011 22:06

Sorry haven't been around today, felt like utter crap and hidden away all day, but wanted to say hi

nickel, lol at name change Grin

BetsyBoop · 16/02/2011 22:30

TUO your DD is totally right Grin I was so glad to learn that DD's school (VA CofE) use the proper version of the Lord's Prayer :)

Baroque - sorry to hear your ex is being a knob ..... (whooops nearly said a bad word!) again... Hmm

mad - hope you are feeling better soon

nickel - loved the name change Grin

PositiveAttitude · 17/02/2011 07:19

Good morning everyone!

Hope you feel better soon MHD.

Hows DSs leg today Baroque

I agree about the Lord's prayer, too.

nickelbabe · 17/02/2011 10:33

thanks Baroque - tell him i've got a cold. and it's only the same as the shepherds who washed their flocks! it's liturgically correct~ Grin

mhd hope you feel better today. :)

betsy - i love how you didn't want to swear about B's ex, but you laughed at my rude namechange! Shock

PA - good, i'm glad you've put your foot down. living up to your MN name! I hope it solves the problem. It's really not fair for you to be abused like that at work, actually at any time. Angry on your behalf.

BaroqinAroundTheCunt · 17/02/2011 10:44

actually nickel - it was me that notice Blush - and pointed it out to him Blush Blush

lyra41 · 17/02/2011 10:55

Hi Nickel, how ya doing?

Is this thread still about what happened last Sunday / through the week in your spiritual life? Hard to tell at this point. Wink

I hope i'm not barging in here....

Last Sunday, instead of going to the 1030 service as a family as we usually do, we gave it a miss as neither of us had duties to do, and it was an all age i.e. no kids groups, which is a total nightmare with our 5 yo, he doesn't really do sitting still and listening for any length of time. Instead we went for a dog walk in the rain and looked at flooded fields and lanes near the Mersey.

I ended up going to the evening service for a change and really enjoyed it, it was run by the youth church and was a bit different and refreshing. Lots of worship, which I love, and some testimony too, fairly interesting, although he did go on a bit (sorry, that's not very holy thing to say is it, but you know what I mean).

BaroqinAroundTheCunt · 17/02/2011 11:02

I think it's turned into any "anything vaguely related to Christianity (and otehr chit chat) thread Grin

I find that such a shame that an all age worship doesn't cater for children within the service.

I just don't get churches that do that Confused or Hmm or Sad (actually expression is a combination of the 3)
