I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

Maybe we should rename it the Kendrick Fan Thread, hey? (Mary I like some Kendrick too, don't worry we are being silly) Grin

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 10:37

703 posts and most of the disagreements have been about whether Graham Kendrick's any good! Grin

MaryBS · 09/02/2011 10:54

nickelbabe, thanks for asking. TBH its been pretty tough and I've got some tough decisions to make, but am hanging in there, and sometimes that's all we can do!

I have to admit, I'm not an expert on GK, so am not aware of all his cheesiest stuff, although I do confess to liking SJS, as I wasn't attending church when it was "overdone", so its not had the same impact. And given some of the really cheesy Victorian hymns we sing in our church, it makes a change to have cheesy 70s/80s stuff :o
(I also had a cheese craving in pregnancy, perhaps this is why? :o)

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 11:05

well, I pray God's helping you make all the right choices. :)

I love cheesy too, but not in church [cat's bum face]

Hello Mary

Just poking my head in really as am not well.

Unfortunately I have all 3 DS's of school/nursery today as they were sick yesterday (more than once)..........and they're feeling much better and and driving me mad while I try and rest on the sofa.

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 11:37

oh Baroque :(
I was worried you'd all end up with that tummy bug that seems to be going round.

TotallyUnheardOf · 09/02/2011 11:56

Aargh! Have been away for a couple of days and can't keep up, but I just have to say that Dandydan is completely correct. It's 'Whom shall I send?'.

Who is used for the subject of a sentence, whom for the object.

The girl who was walking down the street was very tall.

The girl whom I saw in the street was very tall.

Who ate the doughnuts?

Whom shall I send?

People are very lazy nowadays about distinguishing between who and whom, but that doesn't make it right. And it's definitely not American.

I am a language teacher and editor. (Just stating my credentials for wading in here.)

Anyway... as you were!

(Nickel... I love 'My song is love unknown'.)

TotallyUnheardOf · 09/02/2011 11:57

Oops, missed last page. Get well soon, Baroque.

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 12:06

TUO we had put that to rest
Housestyle, I'm right.
did yo unot see the ?????
hmm? hmm? hhhhmmm?
Wink

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 12:28

I didn't want to kill the thread!!! Shock

BetsyBoop · 09/02/2011 13:13

oh Baroque, hope you are feeling better soon, there is nothing worse than the bouncy-ness just-well children when you are feeling ill yourself...

madhairday · 09/02/2011 14:07

Oh dear Baroque, hope you feel better soon and the DS's are all completely better and stop driving you bonkers soon!

TUO - I bow to your wisdom! I am at primary school teacher level in grammar and forgotten most of that which is why I haven't entered into the intricacies of this whom/who me/I discussion Grin

TotallyUnheardOf · 09/02/2011 15:21

[hangs head in shame and remorse]

Sorry, nickel.

[whispers] I am still right though.

[pokes out tongue and runs away]

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 09/02/2011 15:58

thank you - haven't been sick again, but then I've not felt like eating/drinking much either. Though feel very iffy still.

DS's are all absolutely fine. I'm hoping I'm also fine tomorrow so I can cope with them all better as the 48hr rule means they all have stay off tomorrow too eek.

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 16:07

don't run away! Grin

you can come back if the conversation doesn't revolve around grammar! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 09/02/2011 16:44

ahh I hate being ill, got so much to do as well. But can't sit up long enough to actually do anything useful.

And I'm cursing the 48hr rule, why can't it be 36 hours?? Then I could throw them all out to school tomorrow morning.

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 16:56

cos it's 2 days, silly.

48 hours is a bit misleading, because they mean two full days.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 09/02/2011 17:04

yes i know that just annoying that none of them have been sick since yesterday evening and I can't send them back to school until friday. Meanwhile they're running around bickering, fighting, whinging, whining while I lie on the sofa feeling like poo

nickelbabe · 09/02/2011 17:12

i see waht you mean - it's 2 days in your life, but not according to the rule.

I suppose it has to discount the poorly over night, too.

You'll be fine.
haven't you trained one of them to fetch and carry?

jaffacakeaddict · 09/02/2011 18:03

I would just send them to school. Our school's policy is 24 hours and it doesn't seem to have caused any problems.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 09/02/2011 18:18

Problem is I have DS2's TA on my facebook (long story - added as a friend before she was a TA at the school) and she'll know.

Nah - I shall keep them at home.....am startly to feel slightly more human now, tummy still feeling dodgy, but I can sit up for more than about 5 minutes without needing to lie down again.

PositiveAttitude · 09/02/2011 18:35

Glad you are feeling a bit brighter Baroque. Hopefully after a good night's sleep you will feel a lot better tomorrow and you could all have a special day together. Is there an indoor play area near you which would be quiet on a school day, but you could sit and have a nice long relaxing cup of tea while the DC use up lots of energy?

madhairday · 10/02/2011 08:39

Morning all

Baroque, how did you sleep? Hope you're feeling better.

I'm having problems with dd and bullying which is much on my mind at the moment, but her teacher has it in hand, I think. We will see.

MaryBS · 10/02/2011 08:46

MHD, you may recall my DD was bullied. The school handled it really well, and things have improved dramatically. Praying that its the same for you too...

thanksamillion · 10/02/2011 09:14

Morning all, popping in to say hello. I've been a bit busy as DD1 has had 3 days off school with flu but is now at the not-quite-ready-to-go-back but well enough to be fighting with DS! Also been writing our newsletter (we try to do one four times a year) which is always a bit of a headache (but a good one!).

Hope you slept better Baroque and your DD is ok MHD
