I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

fingers crossed that your DD's problems get sorted, mhd. I was bullied as a child and it made my life hell :(

Will you all stop it with your flu!! Shock

If i go down with illness, I'll know you passed it on to me! Grin

madhairday · 10/02/2011 13:17

Sorry to hear that nickel. I was too, and in a way then seeing what she is going through makes it so much worse having experienced it. Mary thanks, I remember that the school helped your dd, how is she doing now?

nickelbabe · 10/02/2011 13:38
Confused

sorry, i think that might have been someone else who had that - I've only got twinkles in my eyes! :)

nickelbabe · 10/02/2011 13:38
Blush

Sorry, you said Mary

MaryBS · 10/02/2011 13:56

Things are a lot better MHD, although there are still occasional fall-outs and there are a number of non-specific-child bullying type events going on at the school, like 'benching' (DD had this happen the other day) where a boy crouches down and his mate pushes the "victim" over the top of him, or 'pegging' for the younger ones, where younger kids are hung on pegs :(

We find out on 1 March whether she gets into the secondary (faith) school, which seems very good, please God that she does!

madhairday · 10/02/2011 14:29

Oh Mary :( Can't schools be vile places. Aaaagh.

No probs nickel. When you say twinkles - are you ttc then? (sorry if too personal) :) Good luck if so :)

nickelbabe · 10/02/2011 14:53

yes, we are! Grin
It's hard work Wink

BetsyBoop · 11/02/2011 10:38

well that was a thread-killing post nickel Grin

good luck with ttc :)

PositiveAttitude · 11/02/2011 11:26

As long as its not catching. Closed shop here after 6DC!!! Grin

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 11:27

I'll have one of yours if you're giving them away, PA!

thanks Betsy :)

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 11:30

I've got very exciting news today!
Grin

My copy of Power Director 9 (deluxe) arrived this morning. Grin

But I can't install it yet, because I have ordered, from the computer shop next door, a 1TB hard drvie! shock]

My work computer has 74GB hard drive, which basically means it's crap, and anything I put on it is taking up all the space and meaning it runs very s...l...o...w.
So, my new 1TB hard drive will arrive Tuesday (estimate) and they're coming to fit it for me.
My main HD will still be the current one, but anything new I put on will go onto the new HD.
and I can spend hours being a film editor and other exciting stuff.
Grin

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 11:30

that shock] should have been Shock (obv)

TotallyUnheardOf · 11/02/2011 12:19

Hello all. Just popped in to clarify that when I poked my tongue out and ran away, I wasn't really running away.

Lots of stuff going on at work atm, around the new role, but also alongside it, if that makes sense. Suffice to say, I am juggling a lot. In view of which, I am trying to staff off the internet a bit, as time-management is not my strong point.

I just didn't want you to think that I'd flounced over a point of grammar!

So sorry to hear about the bullying - what a sad thing. Mary - we're also on the countdown to 1st March, it's nailbiting isn't it? My dd has, thankfully, not been bullied, but is very much a square peg in a round hole in a lot of situations, so I do worry about her a bit (especially at secondary school, where conforming and being (seen to be) 'normal' is so important. I was bullied at school too (speccy, clumsy, clever, rubbish at sport, a bit socially inept...) and it was horrid.

Love to all. I'll be back...

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 11/02/2011 12:19

oh - I lost you all.

I was much better yesterday thanks - sent the DS's back to school so I could rest more.

Am ok today, just horrific period pains (I'm actually wondering if that's what it was as I came on Wednesday night and yesterday and today has just been hell - but period style not ill style).

WOOHOO to PD arriving Grin

TotallyUnheardOf · 11/02/2011 12:20

staff off? Do what?

stay off. [sigh]

[TUO surveys slightly rusty/off-centre grammar halo, and disappears back to RL in a cloud of dust.]

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 12:25
Grin don't worry, TUO, we know you wouldn't storm off over that (maybe storm to Pedants' Corner and rant about me being an imbecile Wink)

It makes me both Sad and Angry that bullying still happens these days.
no, actually, what angers me is that it still isn't dealt with - obviously it will happen, that's just human nature, but it should be dealt with, because they say they don't accept it.

thanksamillion · 11/02/2011 14:55

I have a musical request for you! I've got two girls who I sometimes give singing lessons to and they asked me yesterday to find them something to sing in church. I have SoF 1-4 at my disposal and am a reasonable pianist BUT it needs to be not too complicated English because it's not their first langauage (they learn at school but are only 13 so not very advanced yet). Two parts/potential for harmony good.

Do your best Grin

thanksamillion · 11/02/2011 14:56

I have to go and cook tea now so I'll check back in a bit!

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 16:44

Seek ye First, as suggested earlier would be a good one - it can be done in a round (one sings the verse and while they sing the chorus the other sings the verse and so on)

and I'll have a think.

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 16:47

i'm going to PM you.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 11/02/2011 17:02

I don't have SoF so will leave this one to nickel Grin

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 17:03

I don't have SF! Shock

i'm pretty sure SF 1 is the same as songs and hmyns of fellowship.

you only need to suggest what you think will work, and it'll probably be in SF! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 11/02/2011 17:10

mine isn't..........

there's some indexes \link{http://tws.uk.endis.com/Groups/93622/Kingsway_co_uk/Kingswaysongs/Songs_of_Fellowship/Songs_of_Fellowship.aspx\here} and certainly those numbers don't correspond to the numbers in my older SF..........

thanksamillion · 11/02/2011 17:16

Thanks! I've PMed you nickel. Baroque if you can think of anything give me the first line and I can see if it's in there, or even just find the chords online with the words

nickelbabe · 11/02/2011 17:23

okay, maybe not exactly the same.

But as thanks says, first lines or tune should give her enough to match it up!
