and bought myself a lovely big shiny gun

heh heh heh

no

not really

I am now the proud owner of an ACME 211 and a half (no pea) plus a camouflage green lanyard.

And Wynken, you know what, the gun shop dude gave me EXACTLY the same chat he gave you. He made me write it down and everything. It was of vital importance that I did not lose the bit of paper with my number on it.

They certainly know how to show you up these dogs! When she was in season she definitely needed to go out and wee, shot through the door at the speed of light. And then when she finished she'd got nice and used to barking, being let out, potter round garden then either being told to go back to bed with a treat (what on earth possessed us) or she was allowed up.

I was convinced my early mornings were over and delighting in the fact that DD is gearing up to being a teenager and not getting up (well on the weekends, not good on school days. DS is a bit unpredictable but is now old enough to fend for himself. And then there is Plog ... I guess I should just get up and weed the allotment or something but I can just summon up enough energy to MN in bed on my phone. Thank goodness we're on holiday in half term, she's staying with her trainer, that should sort her out (or I find we're expelled from training)

Oh and I've just seen your other thread and don't feel very well qualified to comment but I think there is a difference between normal play with puppy being submissive and an over enthusiastic dog going overboard with a young puppy which I think can be very intimidating after a time for the pup.. My dog had a bad experience on first trip out with over enthusastic big dog on first trip out which resulted on her growling at every other dog in sight afterwards. And a few months ago there is no way I wild have let her offlead with a small pup as I know she was at that point very full on and a bit intimidating, she's learned to moderate herself. I think you did the right thing and would have done the same as you.

Thanks Wynken. Today was a JRT who despite being smaller than Elsie was very determined to keep her upside down (with owner doing some half hearted recall from about a mile away). On monday it was a Great Dane (but he was only 6 months so that made it OK). Never mind Elsie, I practically fell out of my skin with fright when this ginormo dog came bounding over and sent her flying.

cor a whole week with the trainer! Plog will be an uber trained dog. You'll have to take her to the gun shop to show off her skills in front on mr whistle man.

Hope you don't mind me butting in again. I thin you are right slubber that it is completely not on for someone to let their dog mug yours in this way. It may be playful, but it is also intimidating and painful - and it doesn't help with socialisation, which is about controlled encounters. Perfectly reasonable to tell the other owner to call his dog off. My dog had a bad experience like this when little - very overenthusiastic springer spaniel batting him about like a tennis ball - and I think it contributed to his bad tendancy to give occasional dental expression to his aversion to big dogs.

Mine is JRT

grouchyoldslubbers · 21/05/2010 17:19

heh heh

I LOVE JRTs. Pil's have one and although she is a grumpy old so and so (she is 13 so she's allowed to be) she is very funny. Totally rules the roost and gave Elsie a few manners lessons last w/e (without resorting to knocking her over btw).

Thanks for your replies. I feel like I have been reading dog books since january but what I was meant to do fell out of my head today.
