Puppy got sworn at and kicked by a jogger today...

she is only little and looks like a teddy bear - Bichon and toy poodle cross - can't even reach your knees if she jumps up.

Walking in woods with a friends and her lab x puppy and 5 children under 5 with us (2 in a buggy and 3 running around). Going a long a path and a jogger is running up - he shakes his head as he passes us as the pups have shown some interest in him - they come back to us but go back up to him when he is further away - he then stops and screams at mine to F Off but she sniffs a bit more so he boots her in the stomach. I couldn't believe it - most people at least give me the chance to say I'm sorry and am training her etc.

He was too far away to say antyhing although some other walkers shouted at him but then off he ran.

Please tell me that I will be more traumatised than the dog? Was in a wood with loads of dog walkers so can't believe it doesn't happen to him all the time.

Had just taken her off the trainng line but quickly put it back on - now need to re-gain my faith in mankind.

No, not focusing on you personally, coldtits.

Just wanna know where a dog owner said:

'every green space in the country is their (sic) solely for the benefit of the dogs'.

MrsL123 · 22/02/2010 13:15

"young children are highly fucking unlikely to rip your throat out with their teeth, especially as they can't reach it"

No need to swear. But good point - considering the same applies in this case to the six inch high puppy....

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 13:15

pmsl

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 13:16

Coldtits - I'll stop putting the (sic) in if you like.

We all make mistakes.

Oh no, sorry - forgot.

Dogs owners aren't allowed to.

Silly me!

Looks like my theory about people and animals was spot on....

OrmRenewed · 22/02/2010 13:20

Calm down everyone please!

Why does this make everyone so angry?

morningpaper · 22/02/2010 13:21

Of course dog owners are allowed to make mistakes

But random members of the public should not have the police called when they have a knee-jerk reponse to a dog chasing them

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 13:21

oh do calm down KM

re-read the OP, is that a description of a throat tearing rabid beast, all 2kg of it?

If an enormous st bernard came racing towards my children, growling, snapping and bearing its teeth then yes, I can imagie my reaction might very well be a physical one, in the OP's situation (the one we are discussing, no?) I think it's a massive overreaction.

notimefortv · 22/02/2010 13:21

erm at what point did I say I thought that it was ok for dogs to go up and jump over people and get muddy paws on them? I didn't, I don't think that it right - that is why I am training her.

I just don't agree with the agression at all - it has affected me actually - and so does the agression some people seem to have on here - not nice.

OP posts:
morningpaper · 22/02/2010 13:24

well a rat doesn't weigh a lot

most people wouldn't like one chasing them

I mean a 2kg spider wouldn't weigh a lot

I woudln't want one chasing me

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/02/2010 13:25

Lol at Calm down dear a la Michael Winner.

Let's talk about cats

morningpaper · 22/02/2010 13:27

My cat chases people

DH once knocked her across the kitchen when she attacked him, and she fell into a flip-top bin

I am still with DH

KeithTalent · 22/02/2010 13:28

blinkered dog owners on this thread.

No, your teeny puppy might be cute to you, but not to the rest of us.

If you can't get your dog to leave people alone, keep it on a lead.

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 13:29

Jee-sus, Getoirf.

Do not start a cat shit in gardens thread - please. Those things get vicious.

I purposely said nothing about the whole jogger situation when I first came on this thread because I knew exaclty how it would turn out.

Found it very hard to keep quiet when so many people piled in to make the OP feel even worse than she does already.

Has been most illuminating, though - I have seen many people's true colours.

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 13:31

MP - maybe she attacks him because he 'knocks her across the kitchen'?

Just a thought...

coldtits · 22/02/2010 13:31

Bella29, I will say this once, and once only, as to repeat it could be construed as bullying and I do not wish to bully people, or indeed even discuss such a trivial matter to the point where people are as upset as you appear to be.

Stop addressing the majority of your posts to me, please. I have an opinion on this thread which (and this may come as a surprise to you) is just as valid as yours. I am entitled to express it, and I am entitled not to change it just because I am being personally badgered by you.

I am leaving this thread because everything I say seems to inflame you personally.

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 13:33

Coldtits - I am not Bella29, I am Bella32.

I am neither upset nor inflamed.

I merely asked you to back up your assertion re the dog owners and green spaces.

How very strange

morningpaper · 22/02/2010 13:34

Dear Bella45

No she sank her teeth into his wrist

She bites men and chases old women, generally, like MIL.

She leaves children alone on the whole

iggypiggy · 22/02/2010 13:35

It is very sad and depressing that once again the dog haters just decide to pile in with unhelpful and agressive comments. The OP does realise that her dog shouldn't run up to other people - we all agree on that - there is no need for the bile on here.

I hate snakes - but I don't feel the need to berate the owners of them at length...

What I simply don't understand is why I never find this dog hating venom in real life? I know alot of people - who like/ dislike dogs to various degreees - but never this venom... perhaps it is reserved for the internet?

I really must keep away from these threads - they really depress me.

hatwoman · 22/02/2010 13:35

horrible man but you do need to make an extra effort to keep dogs (and, perhaps counter-intuitively especially small ones) away from runners. tripping up is horrible. If I see a runner I get mine to sit next to me until the runner has gone past.

but kicking a small animal is bang out of order.

Just an aside - it's not worthy of its own thread but anolther example of horrible people. dh was working The Doog (that's a nickname not a typo) and came across a puppy (same breed) they played for a bit then Doog ran up to teh owner (not ideal but, imo, v. different from running up to someone without a dog, which Doog is not allowed to do. It's also a bit of an occuopational hazard when you have pockets full of dog treats). Doog didn;t do anything when he got to the puppy owner but the grumpy, horrible man said "he's used to jumping up isn't he? well if he jumps up at me I'll kick him" .

I'm biding my time...can't wait for his perfect pup to set a paw wrong and have the audacity to run up to me. I lie in bed plotting my reposte.

and if it turns out that Perfect Pup is the dog that wakes me up barking every morning at 6 am then that would just be poetry...

(don't worry there will be no dog-directed violence...)

Bella32 · 22/02/2010 13:36

That's funny The next number in the sequence would have been Bella35.

notimefortv · 22/02/2010 13:36

I also have never said, and don't think, that just because I think my puppy is cute that others do or should have to

No dog owners on here seem to think it's ok for dogs to go chasing people - or am I speaking out of turn here?

EdwardianSnowdropExpert · 22/02/2010 13:37

Oh MP come on now

Are all controversial dog threads on mn like this, I've only just unhidden the topic?
[what have I uncovered emoticon]

A 2kg spider is something that we all (well I assume pretty much most of us) would find a terrifying thing. We are not exposed regularly to 2kg spiders, they are rare things. My next door neighbours do not own 2kg spiders, there are not series on the telly called 'it's me or the spider', spiders are not used by the police, or blind people, or tend to be sat under your grannies table waiting for bits of cake to fall down.

We are regularly exposed to dogs in this country and in the spectrum of normal 'I am a well balanced human being who is not prone to bouts of random violence' reactions to a 2kg puppy chasing and sniffing your feet would range from

"oh fuck off I hate dogs" a bit extreme (imo) but not entirely unreasonable

to

rolling round on the floor with the puppy.

I'm still really struggling to understand how you can think that it's OK for this dog in this to have been attacked.
