She's old and has liver disease ,vets and I have decided not to treat her.
Don't think she is in pain.
She is having real trouble getting up after her very long sleeps..looks lopsided as if she may have had a stroke.
I really don't know whether to take her to the vets as there is nothing they can really do except put her down. She hates going..gets really distressed.I just want her to die peacefully at home .

So sorry ggirl- I have been there and it's a sad time.

RIP Happy.

ggirl, a time will come when you can look back on Happy's life with a smile. I found my old dogs vaccination record today and it choked me but i managed a smile at his memory. They stay with you forever - i don't think non dog owners can really understand the relationship between owner and dog, it really is something very special.

I would keep something, a lead or collar, put it away as a keepsake. I kept my dogs lead and collar. The collar is in the drawer (no one allowed to touch!) and the lead - well, that has been passed down - to my second rottie who has since passed away and now my mad JRT has it - both dogs got the "you are very lucky to be able to use this lead" speech but its a nice thing to have, the memories are all good now

LEM - I do the 'you are lucky to be able to use this' speech as well

DH thinks I am nuts.

The way I look at it is that if you get another dog it is a tribute to your relationship with your first dog.

When I was umming and ahhing about gtting another dog my aunt said 'you have a terrier shaped hole in your life'

ggirl I'm sure you will continue to 'see' Happy for a while. They are such a big part of your life that the adjustment period is really hard.
I hope you are able to remember all the lovely times you had together.

So very sorry to hear this ggirl, I have been where you are, so so sad.

Happy was very lucky to have you as her owner, just as lucky as you were to have her in your life.

I have read your thread about your lovely dog.Its seem so fitting she was named happy. The dog memories will give you lots of happy memories just not at the moment as the pain of her going is very raw.You loved her and i bet she is barking down on you from heaven saying dont be sad.You have wonderful memories of your dog .It was really sad to hear she came up to your bedroom and climbed the stairs to say goodbye.it was time.YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD THAT YOU DID THE ONLY FINAL THING YOU COULD Do.I have been ther too its a bereavment .The dogs/pets mean as much to us as any 1 passing away.RIP HAPPY.

She was a lovely dog and we are all still raw.Everything is reminding me of her .
Am going to get a lovely photo of her framed .

Perhaps when you feel up to it you could get a sketch of her done. There are lots of artists around who do pencil and pastel sketches from photo's.

My parents have a lovely pastel of their previous dogs on their lounge wall.

Take care.

we had a picture done of my MIL dog, it is stunning - done in oils and cost only £80 but that was ten years ago. I do have pictures of my dogs around, but not many - too painful. Saying that, im looking at one of Tiny just now - he was SO handsome .
