Labradoodle pup

I’m looking for recommendations for breeders of miniature labradoodle puppies in Scotland. With puppy farms being a worry I’m asking for anyone who can recommend genuine breeders that they have had a puppy from or know someone who has ?
I have looked at some of the well known websites but some of these puppies are nearly £3000 which is a bit much ?

Get on the list for a poodle. Or go to any rescue and take one of the many doodles given up at 8-12 months (not easy though, they’re behaviourally challenged due to the shitness of humans puppy farming)

Based on initial research I did before getting a labradoodle combining the intelligence of a poodle with the placid and sociable lab made for a super sociable dog who loves other dogs and people and has a wonderful temperament with small children. They are easily trained and haven’t been destructive and are generally just a joy to be around

Poodles are as sociable and placid as labs. And very loving. And easily trained. This makes no sense.

MusicalCarbuncle · 17/10/2025 23:30

What if you get luxating patellas from thr poodle side and hip dysplasia from the lab side?

I don’t know of ANY cross breed producers who eould ensure that the poodle has all the required poodle health investigations and the lab has the same. That is the main issue. Both have highly heritable and very painful conditions in their lines.

Reputable breeders don’t breed crosses. Why do you think you want a cross breed?

As mentioned previously I have already had 2 Labradoodles and am very aware of the characteristics of the breed and am looking for another and have just came on to this forum to ask for other labradoodle owners to recommend their breeder if they were happy that the puppy came from an ethical and responsible background where the dogs and puppies were well looked after and not overbred

I only know one person who had a poodle and it was a real handful and could be vicious ? So not sure how typical that is though but it’s the only experience I had personally?

We have a beautiful labradoodle who is a fabulous family pet. No allergies, no special diet, no health issues (vet always comments on healthy he is during his yearly check up.) Wouldn't be without him - made a HUGE difference to our family.

The vet comments on every dogs health. Good and bad. They probably say that to 50 owners a day.

It's like the vet equivalent of a parent telling their children about Santa for the first time.

If that were the case, why on earth would you buy a cross of a breed you think is nervous and aggressive?

Crossing a breed doesn’t make its personality improve. If anything, you risk getting all the negative traits combined. Friend of mine has a collie x spaniel and it’s a bloody nightmare. All the drive and intelligence of both breeds, with an obsessive desire to herd and the nuttiness of a spaniel. Why don’t you get a Labrador if you’re worried about poodles? Given that there’s no guarantee a labradoodle won’t shed so you’re not getting any benefits that way?

If you think purebred poodles are a "real handful and vicious" - why would you get a mixed breed that contains one? Confused

Your logic makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

@LizzieBet14 can you share the name of your breeder ?

I don’t understand why everyone is so against doodle breeds ! As I said previously I have already had 2 and no problem whatsoever. They are wonderful natures and absolutely no behavioural issues ? I have looked at Doodle Trust but not that many on just now, I will try the others and also thank you to the posters who have suggested some breeders. I want to ensure that I don’t support unethical breeding but just because I and others want a Labradoodle doesn’t make me or other doodle lovers ignorant or a bad person.

Because they are generally from puppy farms. That place above with 20 odd breeding bitches? Those poor poor girls. I dont understand how anyone who loves dogs would be okay with this.

Also, poodles are not vicious.

Yes, that would be helpful. That way we can all see there are good breeders of this breed (unlike the ones PPs have listed which are all puppies farms).

Good breeders should be shared widely - not hoarded. The only reason not to share is if you’re ashamed…

lol.

Freysimo · 18/10/2025 17:43

OP, you seem determined to get a doodle whatever anyone says. Just go on Facebook, plenty of puppy farmers on there.

luckyladygal · 18/10/2025 20:30

@Freysimo Yes I am thanks for the advice !

16 females and 11 males makes that another puppy farm.

With 3 current litters and 4 planned in the next few months 😟

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 17/10/2025 01:57

WTF is a “miniature labradoodle”? 🙄

A crossbred.

VioletBramble · 18/10/2025 21:18

It really needs to be regulated as to the frequency of breeding and number of litters. It's insane. And why on earth do these crosses cost so much compared to pedigree dogs?

Can people really not see that these are puppy farms?
I'm concerned that when the rest of us talk about "reputable breeders" that is being taken to mean 20 plus dogs. It doesn't. Our last two pups (purebred) came from show kennels with a total of 3 dogs. In many breeds that is pretty much the norm. 3,4,5 dogs. Sometimes more, but not 20 plus.

bluegreygreen · 18/10/2025 21:25

With usually one bitch being bred at any one time, because of the amount of work involved over several months in looking after her and the puppies properly, @VioletBramble

Absolutely @bluegreygreen
The kennels mentioned here are a world away from our own experiences of puppy buying. Just so many red flags with them. I'm genuinely shocked.

christmascalypso · 18/10/2025 21:38

Why is everyone against cross breeds? Pedigrees breeds are actually mixes of various breeds over time and why breed a dog like a dachshund with a ridiculous shape and back issues or the flat faced breeds with breathing problems? That is not responsible in my opinion. At least there is a wider gene pool with cross breeds. Crossbreeds & mongrels are often much healthier than pedigree dogs . Can’t help op but good luck and ignore the Mumsnet comments (apart from be careful about puppy farms).

Why would you recommend a blatant puppy farm?

Tygertiger · 18/10/2025 22:30

Just had a look at Tora’s. It’s dressed up in lovely language but their bitches are clearly breeding machines and they neuter the puppies at 8 weeks of age! WTF?!
