Labradoodle pup

I’m looking for recommendations for breeders of miniature labradoodle puppies in Scotland. With puppy farms being a worry I’m asking for anyone who can recommend genuine breeders that they have had a puppy from or know someone who has ?
I have looked at some of the well known websites but some of these puppies are nearly £3000 which is a bit much ?

You are very unlikely to find a reputable breeder of crossbreeds, they are almost all puppy farmed. Even the ones that are claimed to be good have 12 or more breeding bitches, which no reputable breeder ever would have.

You could buy a purebred dog of a rare/at risk breed for the cost of this type of dog.

Aligirlbear · 15/10/2025 20:15

Difficult to find reputable breeders of cross breeds - go for a pure bred or a rescue- much better for the dog.

luckyladygal · 16/10/2025 21:42

I know a lot of people don’t agree with cross breeds but it is a miniature Labradoodle we are definitely looking for so would be grateful to hear from anyone who has got one in the last few years and we happy with the breeder.

The words ‘miniature’ and ‘doodle’ with reference to buying a dog are a massive red flag and any dog with those two attributes should be avoided.

Silverbirchleaf · 16/10/2025 22:03

Go for a poodle and have them groomed in a teddy style. You can’t predict whether a labradoodle will be small like a miniature poodle, or larger like the lab.

luckyladygal · 17/10/2025 01:34

@CharlieKirkRIP Why ? Labradoodles are wonderful pets with just the best nature and you can have the smaller variety with smaller poodle ?

WTF is a “miniature labradoodle”? 🙄

WTF is a “miniature labradoodle”? 🙄

It’ll be a cross between a Labrador and a Mini Poo. Not necessarily half ‘n half.

thisishowloween · 17/10/2025 07:42

What’s wrong with a poodle?

VioletBramble · 17/10/2025 07:44

You get no papers and no back up with this type of dog, and both these breeds suffer inherited, degenerative, structural issues. Everybody knows that Labradors often suffer Hip Dysplasia, but miniature poodles commonly have IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) and both conditions lead to arthritis. Poodles that suffer this need their weight managed which becomes much harder when the bloodlines contain the much bulkier and greedier Labrador.

The problem with crosses is that people imagine they will get the best of both breeds, but the reality is often that they inherit the worst traits. This is what is now being seen in the cockerpoos with idiopathic aggression, resource guarding and barking habits.

There are a million reasons why few people who are clued up on dog breeding or genetics will recommend these crosses. They are being bred purely for profit, without any consideration being given to health, you have no back up or support when things go wrong.

If you want a wonderful pet with the best nature, get a purebred, from a reputable breeder who carries out the relevant health tests for inherited conditions and who offers lifelong support to puppy and owner.

Freysimo · 17/10/2025 08:05

Have you ever had a dog OP? You sound very inexperienced about welfare.

Tygertiger · 17/10/2025 08:05

You want a miniature poodle or a Labrador. Look at the characteristics and personality of both and decide which you like the best. Then research the health tests needed for each breed (not “health checks” on the puppies - proper breeders screen breeding dogs for genetic conditions before they consider mating, eg you should never buy a lab whose parents weren’t hip scored). Then use a site like champ dogs to find a breeder who is doing the tests and join their waiting list. Prepare to be quizzed on your lifestyle and the kind of home you can offer a dog. Do not buy from pets4homes, gumtree etc.

There is no need to cross two perfectly lovely breeds and no benefit to doing so. Anyone doing it is just in it for the money and because these are fashionable crosses. Decent breeders are in it for the love of the breed.

I walk dogs alongside my main job. 9/10 of the doodles I know are neurotic messes and I see a lot of owner regret. FGS get a toy poodle.

As a fellow dog walker I totally agree - they all seem to have allergies and skin issues too.

On the other hand, the pure bred poodles are all absolutely lovely dogs.

FOUR different crossbreeds, two pure breeds, also breeding cats. It has every red flag possible and you're recommending it 😧
Why?

Edited

Because a lot of people are either totally ignorant or don’t actually care where their dog comes from as long as it’s cute.

ChickpeasOnEarth · 17/10/2025 09:42

As a labradoodle owner I recommend getting a poodle.
Although he is wonderful he has numerous allergies and is on a special diet.
Grooming costs are huge, and crossbreeds' coats are more difficult to maintain than a purebred.
Every doodle I know has health issues.

Poodles are amazing dogs, just as lovely as doodles without the risks and additional costs.

luckyladygal · 17/10/2025 10:05

I have actually had 2 labradoodles before and one was the standard lab size and the other smaller (known as miniature) and they were the most wonderful natured dogs and absolutely no bother at all but the breeder has now retired and I am just looking for another reputable one ( not a puppy farm) and any recommendations from anyone who has recently got a smaller labradoodle ( I won’t use the word miniature as it seems to confuse some ). I only want a Labradoodle so although I’m sure you mean well please don’t recommend other breeds as I do know a bit about what I would be getting

Did your other dogs parents have all the relevant health tests, out of interest?

Edit: you’re not going to find a good breeder. Good breeders don’t breed dogs like this. And the best, healthiest, examples of those breeds aren’t being used to breed designer mongrels - they’re being used to further their own pedigree.

But if that’s your choice, then £3K is about the going price these days. You could get a nice miniature poodle for half the price!

MoreIcedLattePlease · 17/10/2025 10:25

OP, you've uttered the word 'doodle,' everyone knows it brings out the anti-cross breed lot.

I wanted a poodle. I looked for a poodle. Everything about poodles was right for us. I'm currently cuddled up to the miniature labradoodle we ended up with because there were no poodles. Ours is 3/4 poodle anyway, and most people think she is 100%. She's perfect.

We bought from a genuine, one-off breeder so I can't help with recommendations, but I will say it took months to find somebody I felt confident was legit. We had/have all the health certifications you could/can have and DDog is healthy, no allergies etc. She is a barker and nervous at times - because she is 3/4 poodle. We've trained her, it's rare now.

The PP who suggested getting a poodle to avoid neuroticism made me chuckle.

luckyladygal · 17/10/2025 11:06

Yes I made sure all health tests were done on both parents and saw both parents and would want the same this time again. That is why I am looking for personal recommendations as a starting point as I’m sure there are very responsible breeders out there but I’m wary about ads selling puppies ! So if anyone has or knows anyone who has what I’m looking for can you give me some recommendations

Reputable breeder of Labradoodles?
You would stand more chance finding a reputable breeder of Unicorns (or maybe Unipoos?)

thisishowloween · 17/10/2025 11:12

You won’t get what you’re looking for on here.

Oh goodness. That’ll be the next thing.

They’d cross a rhino with a Maremma and a poodle claim it was a uni-doodle. 😂
