Rats are fab, but you need loads of room really.

MyTwopenceworth · 30/07/2007 20:46

Rats. very good pets for kids.

ooh, or a ferret.

ludaloo · 30/07/2007 20:46

guinea pigs...they are lovely, and don't mind being fussed. My DD1 dresses hers up

binklehasflipped · 30/07/2007 20:46

rats are great pets, they're super friendly too.

expatinscotland · 30/07/2007 20:47

guinea pig.

Balerno SSPCA is bursting at the seams with small critters available for adoption.

and guinea pigs - I've got two - jeffrey and philip - had em 4 years - jeffrey still regards me with utter terror as if I might want him for a peruvian style barbecue, philip's pretty chilled though

expatinscotland · 30/07/2007 20:48

Rats are rank close-dwellers.

Balerno's the place for you!

We're headed there this weekend ourselves.

DD1 would love a rabbit, but that's out for now so we're thinking guinea pig.

GibbonInARibbon · 30/07/2007 20:51

was going to say rats but see they are out....

MrsBadger · 30/07/2007 20:53

gerbils

they do sleep a lot too though

GibbonInARibbon · 30/07/2007 20:55

I had 7 hamsters as a child

They all met chilling ends

katz · 30/07/2007 20:58

we've got 3 gerbils - they are awake enough during the day for a 3.7 year old. We got 3 because we couldn't bring ourselves to leave one behind! the other options is a degu (sp) they had these in pets at home and they are apparently great for young children

you dont need 2 guinea pigs but they are very sociable animals so you'd need to fuss one a lot if it was alone.

They're lovely and squeaky!!
