Found our lost cat, but is acting strange. Urgent

I don't know why to do, we just found our lost cat today and he was outside for 3 days but after i gave him a bath he seemed very limp and wouldn't move at times. He won't eat or drink willingly and won't fight me when trying to pet him. He's probably in shock but I don't know and it's very worrying. We don't have money to take him to the vet but we will if we have too. He's shaking like crazy and wont let me pick him up and he's currently hiding under my bed for bout 4 hours. Please help.

And don't get any more pets unless you can afford to get them medical attention when they need it.

Liz, sometimes circumstances change. I have six pets that I had before I became disabled and had to stop working.

If one of them needed emergency veterinary treatment I wouldn't be able to afford it. HOWEVER, there are options available! Payment plans, PDSA etc. I'd never, EVER let one of them suffer and they would have been at the vet as soon as I saw there was an issue, had I been the OP. They'd be unlikely to find a vet who would refuse treatment to a sick animal as long as you had ID to settle up when you could.

Our cat behaved similarly when he'd been run over (we live on a quiet lane too, it can still happen).

I hope your silence means you're on the way to the vets or have spoken to them at the very least.

Yes circumstances change, but at least have a backup plan for where the nearest pdsa and someone who could drive you.

OP has said she doesn't really have the money to get this cat treated.
She shouldn't get any more pets if that is the case.

Absolutely circumstances change however that wouldn't be the case if she was to get another pet now, as she knows she doesn't have the money.

I can't believe she posted this as "urgent" then fluffed around and didn't take the cat to the vet as soon as the first page of responses all said "take the cat to the vet now !"

And washing the cat ?! Really bizarre.

I have to say, in the OPS slight defence, I have never met a vet who would accept payment in instalments.

When my dog was hit by a car it cost 3k there and then.

@Scabbersley did you have insurance? I really worry what would happen to my cat in an emergency. I pay for good cover with direct line precisely because I know I couldn't rustle up 3k overnight.
I do worry though about something coming up that isn't covered though Confused

Guys I know many are angry here at the op's actions but I really want to know if the cat is going to be ok and she's less likely to update us if the torrent of anger carries on.

If you can't afford it all vets are required to give emergency treatment e.g. painkillers or pts by the RCVS.
