I don't know why to do, we just found our lost cat today and he was outside for 3 days but after i gave him a bath he seemed very limp and wouldn't move at times. He won't eat or drink willingly and won't fight me when trying to pet him. He's probably in shock but I don't know and it's very worrying. We don't have money to take him to the vet but we will if we have too. He's shaking like crazy and wont let me pick him up and he's currently hiding under my bed for bout 4 hours. Please help.

Out of hours vet, if you google it you will find one in your area.

Dementedswan · 06/02/2018 21:55

Vet now. Explain your situation when you call. No respectable vet will refuse to see an animal in pain or distress. Hope cat is ok , if covered in mud then cat may have been hit by a car, attacked etc. Cats are very clean animals and that rings alarm bells to me.

Harles · 06/02/2018 21:55

I'm going to try and take him but I can't right now because I have no ride. And update I tried picking him up but he would growl at me like he was in pain. And it's like he's huffing so definitely going to the vet, and just stating, he was not hit by a car because we do not live on a busy road at all

Phone the emergency vet now.

How are you going to feel if you wake up to find he’s dead?

PlateOfBiscuits · 06/02/2018 21:57

How long do you have to wait for a lift?

SuburbanRhonda · 06/02/2018 21:58

You only need to be hit by one car.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 06/02/2018 21:58

If he's growling he is very likely in pain. You must take him. Surely you won't let him suffer like that till the morning? At least ring the vet and try to speak to the person on duty.

RavenLG · 06/02/2018 21:58

He was outside for 3 days. Just because you don’t live on a busy road doesn’t mean he couldn’t get hit back a car, wander to a busy road. Cats travel long distances. You need to get him to a vet ASAP! Hopefully he will survive until you can get him him. Put him in a crate with food and water so he can’t wander around and injure himself more. Surrender him to the RSPCA so he can get the treatment he needs if you have to. Or go the PDSA if you are low income / on benefits

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/02/2018 21:58

He's quite likely been hit, quiet roads are the worst for road accidents.

retirednow · 06/02/2018 22:00

You dont know what has happened to him, he needs the vet especialky now he is huffing, you will need to try and get him onto a blanket, keep him warm, dont give him anything to eat or drink till the vet says its ok. Have you rung for a taxi, or is someone picking you up.

Harles · 06/02/2018 22:01

It will be about 2 hours till I can get him to a 24 hour vet. But right now I'm holding him with a warm blanket as he sleeps. He still don't eat but I did give him a little water

Check his paw pads, it seems likely he's been hit by a car. If he's been dragged under the wheels his pads will be scratched

retirednow · 06/02/2018 22:02

Why does it take so long, isn't there anyone nearer.

Dementedswan · 06/02/2018 22:03

Why 2 hours?

SuburbanRhonda · 06/02/2018 22:03

Don’t hold him. Put him down on a blanket and let him get comfortable by himself. If he has a broken leg or pelvis he could be in agony with you holding him.

KarmaStar · 06/02/2018 22:04

Hi OP go to the vet.they may well let to pay in instalments.
The Papua and people's dispensary for sick animals do free clinics ring their emergency number for details plus some local animal shelters may run free clinics.
Please don't leave you cat suffering.
I hope all works out for the bestFlowers

Sleepingbunnies · 06/02/2018 22:04

Poor cat. Can’t you just get a taxi to the vets??

KarmaStar · 06/02/2018 22:05

Should say RSPCA

Berrygoodteeth · 06/02/2018 22:05

I’m going to echo what everyone else has said- get him to a vet. It’s not the cat’s fault you don’t have the funds to get him there or get him seen- it makes me unbelievably frustrated people own animals without having the foresight to have funds for this kind of an emergency.

If he’s out of sorts, crying and not walking he needs to be seen urgently. It’s irrelevant that you don’t live on a busy road- he could have been hit by a bicycle, or motorbike. He could have been poisoned or bitten by a fox.

notwantingtooutmyself1 · 06/02/2018 22:05

Often their claws are scuffed and split if they have been hit. Please do everything you can to get him to a vet asap.

HardAsSnails · 06/02/2018 22:05

Stop holding him. Put him in a carrier ready to go. Poor cat, hope he's ok Flowers

Leilani24 · 06/02/2018 22:05

You shouldn’t have a pet if you can’t afford vet treatment. Also stop making excuses and find a way to the vet - the poor thing is suffering

Sleepingbunnies · 06/02/2018 22:07

Totally agree leilani24

overnightangel · 06/02/2018 22:08

Taxi and vet asap please don’t wait any longer

NorthernLurker · 06/02/2018 22:09

The longer you wait the longer you are leaving your cat in distress. Taxi, vet, now!
