What's the most revolting thing you have had to do for your pet? Can you top mine?

DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE EATING!

Our cat has an abcess on her back due to an infected bite. The vet 'popped' it and about half a mugfull of gunk came out

It was absolutely the worst thing I have ever smelt in my life, a cross between fishy cat breath and really bad poo

We now have to wrestle with the cat to get anti-b capsules down his throat daily, but the worst bit - we have to pick the scab off the abcess and squeeze all the ick out about 4 times a day!

I'm torn between feeling really sorry for the poor cat as it can't be nice at all, and feelings of complete repulsion at what we have to do. I'm not normally squeamish but this really has me retching

I know, I know, I'm being pathetic and it could be worse and I should just get on with it!

Has anyone had to do this before? How long until it healed?

Couldn't read the whole thread - had to stop half way through

suedonim · 08/03/2007 16:42

Isn't it? Luckily he's grown up to be quite normal, no curly tail or anything.

suedonim - I did pay the vet lots of money and he still sent me home with a yakky thing to squeeze!

Yes, I've always had cats so have had to do tablets before - never yucky abcesses though!

This has got to be one of the ewwww-iest threads ever.

And I thought our cats puking everywere was bad. I did paddle in some cold sick once when I came down to the kitchen in the dark.

Kids keep going on about having a pet - but no no no I just dont want all this again.

Spidermama · 08/03/2007 21:37

That's truly vile. Pets can be utterly gag-worthy at times can't they.

I used to have to squeeze two duct-type things either side of my ill old dogs arsehole to get the stuff out which was blocking them. I could barely do it for retching.

I also remember a horrifying incident involving my mum's untrained old spaniel which rolled in something other-worldly. We had to get him straight into the bath at my home which is upstairs. Being untrained, he fought us all the way and we had to use brute force. No fun on an animal covered in rotting faeces I can tell you.

He's dead now. Boo-fucking-hoo.

Spidermama · 08/03/2007 21:37

That's it dustin. Anal glands. Those are the fellers.

sweetkitty · 08/03/2007 21:43

PMSL at this thread

been there done that with anal glands and abcesses

as for pills and cats have you tried grind them down to a powder and lashing it in with some wet food like Sheba, always works with mine the gluttons.

thepuddingchef · 08/03/2007 22:57

Thank you thank you thank you......I was having crap evening.....now i'm in stitches!
Mumsnet posters are soooooo funny!

hotandbothered · 08/03/2007 23:28

Our huge dog had D and V this week.... How do you clear that up all over the garden?! Unfortunately he has long hair, so had to wipe his bum after each time. TMI Took him to the vets. Cost me £150 for all the pills and potions and a stool sample to be sent off. Dogs get better treatment than humans.... Best thing? Vet told me we could all catch it!!!

Chandra · 08/03/2007 23:28

The anal glands? no problem. The poo stuck to the bottom... solvable, but... carrying a yorkie, on my neck, for 2 miles because it was a hot day and she had overheated just after she had landed (feet and mouth) on cows' poo...

hester · 08/03/2007 23:49

ANAL GLANDS??? You're all kidding; this is some bizarre conspiracy designed to drive me crazy with horror, like Ingrid Bergman in Gaslight...

[Leaves thread quickly, shuddering and muttering to self that no pet will ever cross the threshold.]

Ellbell · 08/03/2007 23:49

My sister's springer once rolled in a dead seal.

Now that stank!

JanH · 09/03/2007 00:06

A friend's dog once ate something toxic and the resultant diarrhoea was sprayed all around her very large very nice open-plan kitchen/dining room - she was greeted by it when she went down in the morning.

We have no dog. We will never have a dog

gtimama · 09/03/2007 00:07

Not quite the same but gross none the less.

Whilst potty training twin daughters. They had simultaniously pood on their potties. Someone came to the front door so we all went to see who it was. On returning to the living room we were greeted by our dog licking his lips.

Nice!!!

cremolafoam · 09/03/2007 00:10

ok these are all bad, but earlier this week ( see other thread) i had to poke a dead mouse( brought in by cat) out of the dyson tube which i had sucked up from under the bed setee.

cremolafoam · 09/03/2007 00:16

here

NorksBride · 09/03/2007 00:27

I have to empty our dog's anal glands every couple of months. Our dog is a Great Dane. His anal glands are the size of melons.

And obviously we've all had to wash fox crap off our dogs. Fox crap is the most horrid smelling crap there is (Which Magazine did a survey). And you have to shampoo it really well because it is strangely waterproof...!

themoon66 · 09/03/2007 21:09

Oooh fox crap is evil. It has a kind of oily quality don't you find, especially when plastered all around a golden labrador's coarse neck hairs.

This thread is hilarious

Nothing compared to others here but our very large dog eats the smaller ones poos. She also seems to burp a lot. Horrible when she has her head on your lap, burps loudly and you can smell the others poo..

sazjaz · 10/03/2007 07:48

(sazjaz reads first line of thread and is now off to be sick)
